So crazy how it looks relatively calm on video but I’ve only bailed on relatively tiny waves and even those feel like they toss you around pretty good. Can’t imagine this where you’re just stuck until a jet skier can locate you.
You held onto a selfie -stick through all of that just so us armchair quarterbacks could get a taste of Narzare? I knew you were superhuman, but man! How is this not trending? Also, using Satie for the music bed as the jetski guys are searching? Absolutely inspired. Subscribing.
Being pushed under like that is terrifying. I am not a surfer and had a scary experience with waves only about 6-7 feet. I got pulled out by a rip current on a body board. They tell you to swim to the side, so I did. The problem was as soon as the rip stopped bigger waves came and pushed me back in at a different location from where I was pulled out. One broke right on me and torpedoed me straight to the bottom where there was a hidden rock. Thankfully I wasn’t seriously injured but I was gashed across the chest and pretty bloody. That was enough for me. I can’t imagine the power of a wave 10 - 15 times bigger and probably a hundred times more forceful.
Kai’s ability, determination and presence of mind to hang on to his GoPro gimbal through this whole thing is actually almost as impressive as the waves he rides. This was a next level POV experience. Kai thanks dude. 🦾
This looks absolutely horrible! Seeing Kai pop up and those mountains crashing down in the background. heavy stuff man. Glad you have trained so hard and are in shape.
Finally a title that's not click bait. He did indeed get destroyed. Imagine instinctively trying to dive under a wave and then realizing you're fully inflated like an inner tube?!
The things that stood out to me: *You can see that speed the first guy got, which just goes to show how fucking fast you go on waves like these. *The size of the wave looked to be around 15-20ft from the go-pro. But when I saw the footage from the shore, I was mind blown by how big it actually was, (my estimate is like 30-40ft, am I close?) Edit: 60-70ft *The giant boom I heard while you were riding the wave is just gargantuan. I’ve surfed 8-10ft waves that make that kind of sound so it was crazy to hear it on a wave like this. Wow! *The little pocket where you were able to breathe for a second while getting slammed by the whitewash was interesting. *You were under for about 10-15 seconds each time u got slammed. Such a gnarly video, glad you were safe and so stoked about just happened. Respect to you, and the jet ski guys!🤙
Cool to see the on-shore perspective, they were really looking for you! There was like three times where the timing was perfect and they missed spotting you before the next wave.
Coming back to this video to get some perspective every few months, and just learned that the jet ski guy is Sebastian Steudner, who had won the Guinness world record for surfing the biggest wave... that's like discovering that a side character is a main character at the end of a movie/game. crazy stuff.
Crazy, I have struggled in the past with just 6-foot swells. I can't imagine surfing or being at Nazare. Much respect to all surfers and jet skiers that take on Nazare.
I would never be able to compare to this in a million years but when I was 15 I got stuck in some big waves and it was terrifying I was shouting to my friends who watched because they didn't know I needed help, I really thought I was going to die that day, I could only think about my mother
Anyone who's ever got into trouble In the sea has some inkling what this feels like. It gets pretty real. I managed to rescue someone who was drowning in high waves (nowhere close to these), but I almost drowned myself in the process, and we both got pretty cut up on rocks. We both walked away though. The sea can be brutal. Always approach it with respect.
people understimate the sea, i go to a beach called Praia Grande in Portugal, the waves are about 3-6m AND most of the times i got fucked up pretty baddly. And they are pretty small waves... Only people who deal with sea know how hard it gets.
Wow, those impact vests are a real game changer. Imagine, or I should say, remember how much longer these guys were held down before these came on the scene, some of them didn't come back up alive unfortunately. That's still an unimaginable beating, but it's nice to see how much faster you pop to the surface with a float vest.
Classical, dramatic music is so perfect for this video. New perspective. Hopefully convinces the unprepared from crowding the line up because they’re relying on rescue vests and other peoples safety teams. Respect Kai. You’re Professional and I get the same vibe as a good concert when viewing your vids. Thank you.

haha yep, i always talk about the time I wiped out at Gunnamatta (Mornington Peninsula, VIC, Australia) on a big 2.5m day. I sat on the beach and contemplated life for a few minutes afterwards lol
So brave!
@@Punkologist That's still a big wave to the rest of us bro
😂 right?!
It’s incredible how fast and powerful the wave is thx for showing us 😊
Unreal man! I’m so happy you survived that action.
Those vests were a game changer. I'm surprised how quickly they come back up.
Was thinking the same. Pre-vest those sets would push him deep under water and that hold down would be insane. With the vests he’s mostly just getting pushed around a few feet under water
Yeah, almost no hold down at all actually - I'm sure the beating more than makes up for it though!
@@Darkmouse20001 yeah im sure that feels like a ton of bricks hitting you from every direction. nuts!
Yeah, you're a bobber
This is why only true watermen ride these monsters. Great job Kai, much respect to you and all big wave riders!
There are lots of true waterman don’t surf 35-60 foot waves
@@tracystephanski4343 you are absolutely correct. My comment was made in reference to the preparation, knowledge, and skill it takes to be a big wave rider and waterman.
Thanks I thought I was about to get a hate comment
@@tracystephanski4343 no way, not from me. I agree with what you wrote.I could have clarified a bit. Cheers! 🍻
Sorry if it sounded like I was against what you were saying
Damnit. Those were mountains of water. Thanks for PoV, man.
This is an amazing video! I remember getting caught inside on the North Shore of Oahu and felt this way some days. Nothing near as big as this but the feeling is the same. Incredible footage of what is REAL!

Hence proved Cameramen never dies 😂
the amount of respect i have for extreme sports is unmatched
So crazy how it looks relatively calm on video but I’ve only bailed on relatively tiny waves and even those feel like they toss you around pretty good. Can’t imagine this where you’re just stuck until a jet skier can locate you.
Great work holding on to the GoPro!🤘
Kids today will do _anything_ for the shot.
So glad you didn’t loose this amazing footage.
Idk HOW he held on to that
You held onto a selfie -stick through all of that just so us armchair quarterbacks could get a taste of Narzare? I knew you were superhuman, but man! How is this not trending? Also, using Satie for the music bed as the jetski guys are searching? Absolutely inspired. Subscribing.
He survived thanks to that GoPro. The Camera man never dies.
Sebastian Steudtner coming to the rescue- best rescue guy ever :) Greetings from Germany 👋
Thank you for the experience
This looks absolutely horrible! Seeing Kai pop up and those mountains crashing down in the background. heavy stuff man. Glad you have trained so hard and are in shape.
Finally a title that's not click bait. He did indeed get destroyed. Imagine instinctively trying to dive under a wave and then realizing you're fully inflated like an inner tube?!
50 years from now surfers will still study this clip forever immortalized on youtube. Job well done Kai!
What is there to study
@@jimpanse4216 Your wife's boyfriend

BALLS OF STEEL to hang onto that camera. Excellent footage, thanks so much.
That was AMAZING footage!
The things that stood out to me:
*You can see that speed the first guy got, which just goes to show how fucking fast you go on waves like these.
*The size of the wave looked to be around 15-20ft from the go-pro. But when I saw the footage from the shore, I was mind blown by how big it actually was, (my estimate is like 30-40ft, am I close?) Edit: 60-70ft
*The giant boom I heard while you were riding the wave is just gargantuan.
More like 50-60ft waves 🌊 easily ,
Also they wear a type of life suit so it inflates but can only be used once and has to be rearmed again after wards
The bro never let go of the camera, that’s true dedication to quality film making!
You gotta hold on to SOMETHING...
I think he also held onto it because he could wave with it
That’s probably why his shoulder took a pounding
Cool to see the on-shore perspective, they were really looking for you! There was like three times where the timing was perfect and they missed spotting you before the next wave.
Coming back to this video to get some perspective every few months, and just learned that the jet ski guy is Sebastian Steudner, who had won the Guinness world record for surfing the biggest wave... that's like discovering that a side character is a main character at the end of a movie/game. crazy stuff.
when he wipes out at 0:39 and you see the clip still has 7 mins left :O
“Washing machine POV” - thank god for the jet ski
The level of mental endurance of these professionals is out of this world
Wow. You do your ancestors proud man. Just so much heart. Stout work.
Me seeing how long I can hold my breath everytime he goes underwater:
Sit in the bed or couch its easy, there with the stress and afraid i admited i would have died
I would fucking die in there, horrible death
Crazy, I have struggled in the past with just 6-foot swells. I can't imagine surfing or being at Nazare. Much respect to all surfers and jet skiers that take on Nazare.
@Sigrid Kaag oké Sigrid
Let's Gooo... Go AGAIN... That's a nice experience. It looks amazing.
that camera travelled through dimensions
Woah
Never seen anything like this before.
Thanks for the raw POV footage and glad you're safe.
I would never be able to compare to this in a million years but when I was 15 I got stuck in some big waves and it was terrifying I was shouting to my friends who watched because they didn't know I needed help, I really thought I was going to die that day, I could only think about my mother
Every surfer has at least one moment like this. It’s all part of the process! I hope you overcame that fear. Good luck!

Bro this hits different, God Bless...
Love the Erik Satie composition. Perfect anxiety building piece.
Been there
yooo, thats hardcore asf
I feel like Im going to die on 5ft waves
saaaame
Wow, that's crazy. Glad you made it.
Holy cow! you are a very brave man Kai!
After watching this video, I have crossed surfing Nazare off my bucket list; thanks for saving my life!
I love how raw this video is. Thank you for showing what goes into these highlights and how insane this whole process is.
Awesome video bro!!! Definitely need balls to ride those waves. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Wow, those impact vests are a real game changer. Imagine, or I should say, remember how much longer these guys were held down before these came on the scene, some of them didn't come back up alive unfortunately. That's still an unimaginable beating, but it's nice to see how much faster you pop to the surface with a float vest.
Incredible waves. A very brave surfer.
Great video.

Maravilloso vídeo. Gracias sobre todo por en contrapunto de Satie que apunta a lo cósmico y espiritual de esta empresa.
Classical, dramatic music is so perfect for this video. New perspective. Hopefully convinces the unprepared from crowding the line up because they’re relying on rescue vests and other peoples safety teams. Respect Kai.
