Lost Foam Casting Servo Motor Bracket

- Heading out to the casting shop today and start Manufacturing a servo motor adapter for an indexing fixture. First, we make the part out of foam then bury it in sand and lost foam and cast it. We don't get it on the first try and find casting defects but we learn lots on the way and in the end we nail it and cast a perfect part.

Very cool to see this casting process done for functional parts. I'm looking forward to seeing the machining and installation!

@@Wrighmachining I ordered a graphite crucible but when it got here it was much smaller than I had thought. I am going to use a cast iron stew pot instead. What do you think about using the cast iron pot?

any use of those low temp (gas torch) aluminum fill sticks (from harbor freight here)

Yes , welding it had crossed my mind . I also have a alu welder ,but curiouse about the alu welding rodsa . Maby one day ill grab some and play with it . Could have been a viable way . Im glad i redid it though and didnt have to machine the ⅛ gap after casting .
that smell!! i just moved a couple years ago, and poured out a tub of sand that i had did lost foam in like15 years ago, it still stunk!
I know , i change my clothes right after a pour amd wash them as well . The wife will not let me in thw house . :).
I bet you are not sweating in your leathers in zero degrees weather. 👍
Tom it was perfect weather for it !! Ran out of aluminium though i have to go scrounging tommorrow.
