    Keep in mind that timing belts don't need to be tight. you'll be surprised at how loose they can be and still work perfectly.

    I have belt drives on both my rigs. I can tell you I run them a lot looser than you have it in this video. The belt does eat more battery, but running it looser helps. Also high speed runs heat up the belt.

    Great test, very much appreciated. I love a quiet truck and was very curious how much quieter it'd be, and it sounds great.
    Also those clutch gearboxes being quite unpopular in comparison to planetary front mounted and all those divorced transmission types, well they have one major advantage of being able to run a belt.

    Great job on producing Awesome video's and information for the enthusiasts! Would be interesting to figure out what the difference in motor turns or KV would be required to compensate for the change from the gears to belt/pulley ratio. Do you think a 27t to 35t would be enough, or would it be more extreme like a 55t?

    Belts are 1 step forward and 2 steps back for crawlers. You get a quieter setup but at the expenses of efficiency, durability and compatibility. It was also interesting how it reacted on your bench testing. You could see the chassis torque twisting back and forth much more for some reason.

  • @rc-daily
    @rc-daily Před 3 lety +2

    I also think you have the belt pretty tight. Loosen it up a little bit. You can also get the different sized pulleys to get it closer to the original ratio.

    literally just installed mine on my Mav scout, the scout is so dang low geared stock anyway so it wasn;t too bad on it. I have a huge whine coming from the huge spur gear of the scout, and now that i put the belt on, its so dang quiet which i like. Torque seems to still be there so it wasn;t so bad on my rig, i actually really like how quiet it is.. You are right, it does gear it up a bit more due to the smaller size of the belt "spur"
    great vid though dude! (2 years later, still getting responses hahah)

    One of my friends has a Vanquish rig, with an Axe 2300KV in it and runs this set up. The original set up used a metal spur and pinion and the noise off of it was excessive when trailing at speed. Plenty of motor and with it's portals it was already very low geared and could have done with being geared up a little like this seems to do.

    Really interesting and valuable !!
    I agree with your conclusions and add these:
    - belt is more exposed to moisture and degrade
    - add stress to spur and pinion axle
    - a bit of elastic may give more traction (I compare to motor bike where chain is really better than direct drive shaft with cardan joint
