Wild Camping With Wingman of The Road | Dartmoor National Park | Motorcycle Tour

- We headed off to Dartmoor National park for out last day in Devon. We went to find a suitable camping spot and then headed off to somewhere that’s been recommended to me a number of times; Union Road Moto Velo. This is a motorcycle hangout, motorbiker friendly hotel, workshop, coffee shop, clothes and gear retailer and there are also motorbikes for sale- all wrapped up in a brilliantly cool, edgy package. A custom Honda Cub, Harley Davidson Sportsters, Indian FTR and a heavily customised Triumph Bonneville, as well as gear for sale from the likes of Saint Jeans, Roeg helmets and Resurgence gear (to name a few). They have a good choice of sandwiches and cakes too, so it’s a brilliant stop off. It is hugely worth a visit!
After that, we rode back into Dartmoor Park and set up the Goose Wingman of The Road tent for some wild camping on the final night. I had the tent strapped to my Hepco and Becker rear rack with Ron straps, and it worked like a dream!

Close to 100 now!
I have lived in france for the last 17 years. Your videos remind me of how beautiful England is.
*aaa my dream to ride Dartmoor. thank you for taking me there*
Loved this vlog and great to see you get your priorities right Freddie, four cans of beer to one bottle of water! 👍🏻
🤣🤣
Love the ride and versatility of a Sportster but it only comes second to a Triumph.... Don't lose sight of that Speedmaster !!
I agree! 👍
Love my wingman…get yourself a couple of adjustable tent poles and you can make a mini canopy with the side you get in and out of …..nice to sleep with the flap open 👍🏻
Ahhhh I love this- thanks for the tip!
Really enjoyed this road trip Freddie and Monika, felt so natural and relaxing, wonderful photography, beautiful scenery, sunsets, sunrises, wild horses, can't ask for any more....
A great vlog Freddie. I love Dartmoor. The two ponies chasing each other were having so much fun.
I hope you don’t mind me making a suggestion for your safety. If you put the canopy on the opposite side to the side-stand, should by any chance the side-stand sinks into soft ground or the bike topples, it will fall away from you and not on the tent.
Beautiful sunrise/sunsets.
Thanks very much- I'll act on this next time I'm camping🙂
I've seen quite the contrary suggested too, because if you put too much tension on the sheet, it could pull the bike over (with the help of wind etc.) That's why I'd always keep the side stand on the inside of the sheet/tent.
Swings and roundabouts! 😂
Well don’t put too much tension on it.
@@greerbox yeah I'm not trying to say you're wrong, I'm just saying there's pros and cons to both 🤷♂️
Definitely more applicable when using a tarp that you need to stretch out, not so much this little tent 👍
you are lucky to have Monica a good photographer and an innocent smile.thx for sharing
Stunning scenery when complimented by blue skies. Almost has me missing Blighty.
The horses at the end were good for a laugh too.
Keep up the great videos.
When i cant get out on the bike , i like to watch Freddie go out on his, it gives me a warm felling in my tummy
Great set of vids Freddie .. Love yr infectious child-like enthusiasm! Top man 👍
😂 The horses coming to see how well you can pack up your tent!
I bought a Toucan tent and was really impressed with the quality of the tent( and the solid fuel stove kit l bought at same time) . Was brilliant on the wild camping l did on the Isle of Islay overlooking a beautiful beach. Sleeping with the breakers rolling in was bliss.
I carried it on my 300 Vespa no problem at all using a pair of rock straps.
So enjoyable … thanks guys … took me out of a dull day at work ⭐️🤗
You hit it out of the park again Freddie! Absolutely brilliant 😊
Genuinely laughing at the horse debarcle
Great stuff
The Bonneville custom is sick…. 🤙
What beautiful scenery and we are so lucky to be able to access all this in the great country we live in 👍🏻
Completely agree!🙂
If I had a Monika on my pillion, I think I would be a vlogger.
Just love her work and editing skills.... she must have been born with a camera atached to one eye !!
Thanks to you both for another brilliant video. Ride safe, greets from 🇨🇭, Steve.
One of my absolute favorite videos. Beautiful scenery both in town and out.
Those horses were hilarious
The dog having zoomies @15:30 🥰👌 awesome.
Dartmoor is our go to day out. It's amazing.
The little drinks bottle you noticed on the back of the Sportster's mini-pannier is probably a petrol-safe aluminium fuel bottle.
Those Sportsters have such small fuel tanks that if you're going anywhere further than commuting distance, you need an emergency fuel supply.
That little 1-2 liter bottle will mean the difference between rolling into the nearest service station on fumes, or finding out how desperately you need to renew your gym membership.
I've got something similar on my V-max 1200 as the tank holds less than 12 liters.
Beautiful video as always!
Very interesting, thanks Tai!🙂
Awsome! just no words!!
What a great vlog…. Wonderful to watch … thanks guys
All three in this Devon videos have been excellent. A pleasure to watch.
Really enjoyed it! The scenery was stunning, Monica's filming excellent. The horses were really funny, you came over as being quite nervous of them which made me laugh. Well done Freddie, and thanks a lot. Ride safe, mate.
Thank you! I was a bit nervous if I'm being totally honest!
Fun! And looks beautiful.
Thx
Just a couple of points about Dartmoor National Park and camping. Not meant as harsh criticism, just a couple of things you should know. You mentioned getting a fire going at your camp, it's actually illegal to have an open fire on the moors. So is flying a drone!
But you are right, it is a beautiful part of the country!
I am so grateful to live here.
Love watching all of your adventures...Love the choice of music accompaniment too...spot on 👍
I grew up & lived for 40 years in Northern "burbs" of Plymouth. I spent so much time on the coast or Dartmoor. There I learned 4 seasons outdoorsmanship. It's where I met my now wife, she lived in Princetown. As she is ex army she is skilled & comfortable wild camping too.
Nailed it with this one, what a fantastic experience in such a beautiful part of the world.
Cracking chilled video. Enjoyed watching you go in blind putting up the tent with no practice. Dartmoor is seriously beautiful
Thanks for your mini series. Devon has always been my favourite county. My home is now Andalucía... also beautiful but very different. You noticed how inquisitive the gorgeous ponies are on Dartmoor.
Could I make a small suggestion? Safer for you if you park the bike leaning away from the tent. If one of the ponies decides to give it a nudge, it'd be a very painful experience. Wouldn't want to see a video of you from a hospital bed!
Super video as always.
I also love the way you never set yourself up as being the expert unlike so many bike vloggers.
Great stuff. Cheers to you both🍺
Thanks for the tip re the tent Stu- I hadn't considered that. I LOVE Andalucia!🙂
great video... phantastic landscape!... thanks to you and Monica for filming this....
Freddie, that "Tent" you have, here in Australia, we call them a swag. Our military use them. The Sportster is an awesome bike. I love mine, easy to live with, heaps of modifications available if wanted, cheap to run, but also ride like an old school motorbike. I've had all the fast, powerful bikes, now it's time to enjoy the ride. Get yourself a Sportster, you won't regret it.
Brilliant vlog thanks FD.
😂I love how out of your comfort zone you are with that tent - stay safe buddy, keep riding.
What a lovely video, stunning scenery and very well put together. It brings back many memories of Dartmoor for me, I trained on there with the Royal Marines, I’ve seen it throw all sorts of weather down in one day. It’s brutal in the winter.
That was great, so beautiful
Awesome video and awesome content can’t wait for the next video Thanks Freddie and Monica
Thanks Freddie for your time and finely showing us your lovely Monica.👍🇨🇦
Hello, my new friend.
Wow! It's such a motorcycle trip video that gives fun and healing.💖💕💘
I watch your video until the end.
I'm happy to be your great channel friend.💜💛💚
Have a comfortable day 💝💗❤
👍👍👍🤙👌
If this video doesn't make you fall in love with the open road and bike camping, then nothing will. I just started my license course (quite lat e in the game at 40) but can hardly wait to experience this.
Love, love your videos and the honest enthusiasm you have for this wonderful lifestyle.
No BS ,no fancypantsy showoff stuff, just the real deal.
Great man, really Enjoyed that thank you.♠️👍
❤❤❤ i love this hip-hop song 😊
Glad you enjoyed it so much. Sometimes, it's good to be reminded how blessed we are down here.
So true!🙂
I absolutely love your videos! The cinematography is excellent and really enjoy your visits to local motorcycle coffee shops. Keep up the great work!
Beer, crisps, Jaffa cakes. And a banana, just to match the fine looking gloves!
Perfect product placement there, but with such locations and scenery I don’t care 👌
Wow, that scenery. What a great vlog Freddie!
Thank you, thank you so much, sublime.
Loved that shot of the 2 longhorns canoodles!!♥️
Great video..enjoyable and informative..good to see the wildlife roaming and running free!
I’ve probably watched all your vlogs now and I vote this one the best - so far!
Great location, scenery, filming and very funny with your unpaid extras entertaining us by eating your bike and clothing!
More please!
Beautiful Dartmoor. Such a spectacular place to ride. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep safe
Lovely trip 👍
Love the film you make our country look so enticing. I also think you should consider the Triumph speedmaster/America I have a 2012 America, cruiser vibe with the Bonneville twin perfect. Keep up the good work 😃
What a beautiful vlog, expecting more of these. Soothing, perfect shots and good vibes.
IMO, the very best video you have ever done! Touching, beautiful and life filled with the glory of the Sun ! Simply, Outstanding!
Nicely designed and great sharing 🏍✅🌈
For me this has got to be your best vlog , stunning scenery and all credit to you both for the filming and editing , great drone footage . Makes you realise that we live in a lovely country and thank you for reminding us of that.
Ja ja! Horses can be so crazy animals. It reminds me a night spent wild camping in Basque country with a white horse pulling my tent, biting my tarp. What a fight an endless night. I did also wild camp in Dartmoor area, lovely site and no horses then!
I am very lucky I live in south Devon, and ride these roads with a smile on my face . Your video is stunning . Well done .
Thank you so much for showing us such an enchanting location. You inspire to go visit and camp there in Dartmoor. I also really enjoyed you showing us the motorcycle hang out. I loved the blue retro paint job on the Harley in the window. Thank you Freddie.
Thanks David! I was a bit scared of the horses!🙂
Very nice video! Love it!
Thank you for this video.
I visited Devon when I was Six years old and I am now seventy three.
I currently ride an r1250 r
You bring back so many memories. I haven't been in England since 1963.
I can say so much about your presentation but it would take too long so Thank you and keep these videos coming
Thanks a great video. I like the postoffice
Great video, love the horses at the end trying to eat everything! 😆
What a great series of video's Freddie! You provide entertainment and information that is very useful, thank you.
Lovely
Really nicely produced video, and great tips for places to visit and camp. Fantastic Dartmoor.
Union Road Moto Velo is one of my favourite cafes. Daughters used to dance in Crediton (classes, not randomly on the streets :)), and I would often go there for coffee, cake and writing :)
Nice video, thank you.
"Just got to suck it up (and) have a banana ". A bit of Dobbsian philosophy that should be on the front of a t-shirt! A very enjoyable video. In particular, your interaction with the ponies made my day.
Thank you!!😆
Another awesome video!!! : )
Great video thanks for showing love your jacket it is really cool
Another great vlog Fred and Monica. I agree with some of the other posts ... the horse chase towards the end was a good laugh and beautiful footage. I'm a big fan of camping and love that you can just set up shop anywhere there.
beautiful vlog and seems a great experience to the outdoors.
I so need to explore this country I live in more....watching these vlogs there are some seriously beautiful (or possibly even 'stunning' 😁') places to be found and seen 😊👍🏻
Beautiful place
another great vlog stunning place love the supplies beer / banana's/ crisps animals just reminding us its there home .
After watching this , I brought The Wingman of the Road, the Toucan, it’s fantastic, thanks as I never new about it till I saw you using one. 👍
Absolutely LOVE going to Moto Velo. Such a cool place to hang out and have coffee and cake in.
I have enjoyed enormously every video that I have seen of yours, Freddie. Everything about them has been delightful and informative. Your passion has been infectious, and Monica is a lovely young woman. I have been riding for 43 years, and your youthful enthusiasm is a pleasure to see. Best wishes, from New Jersey, U.S.A.
Brilliant vlog, wonderful drive and that Scottish bull grooming calf is priceless.
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel! Living in Devon I never take the county for granted and love the areas that you've recently visited - a motorcycle ride over Dartmoor is always good for the soul. You really captured the essence of the area and I appreciated your editing and music choices etc. Dorset and Cornwall are equally as scenic, so you'll have to come this way again! Cheers and regards to you both.
Such a great video, keep up the hard work , brilliant, throughly enjoyed this 👍👍👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣
When I was 19 I spent 5 years moto camping 24/7 so you could say I'm a hardened camper.. I must first say I originally came from a city so watching you was like a reflection of watching myself at the start of the 1984 bike season.. leaving the city and deciding to live on the road.. I built all sorts of shelters and found a bender built with Hazel or and willow were the best through summer and winter.. but I mainly used them through the winter..
Lighting my first 10 fires used up loads of time and energy removing petrol/gas from my bike to light the fire.. but eventually learnt all the bush craft I needed to survive and could build a shelter and light a fire whatever the conditions.. So back to your video thanks for making a old school bike pi## himself laughing at your expense..
🤟😎
you are giving me great motivation to visit these places on my motorbike
Absolutely loved this mini series touring the Southwest, so many beautiful places captured with your Vlog, this one in Dartmoor was a real hoot, the bike cafe was a great find and the Wingman tent looks top quality. :)
Rok straps are awesome!
Amazing video!
Excellent video guys you make me so homesick .
Really appreciate it!
Love the bike culture! From the USA but your love for bikes and camping makes me want to take a ride with you. ! Love the video and the music great job all around
Loved this wishing you every success in Tenerife
