Never had the fortune to catch this species, as they are not native to my country. But I have enjoyed sharing your experiences 😊. Thank you for sharing.

Does this affect the native Atlantic Salmon population negatively?

Unfortunately. The numbers of Salmon par actually making it out into the ocean are at an all time low here on the Miramichi. As fun as they are to fish, they eat everything and are making their way further up the river every year chasing food. The bass to salmon par ratio almost makes it impossible for them to get out. Long term, this is a big problem for Atlantic salmon on the Miramichi..

If you want to fish big stripers from shore, come to Chandler in the Gaspesian peninsula. You won't beleive it.

Wonderful especially your dad fishing with you I do that as well he’s mid 80”s as well . Good times
My question is two fold - 1. Why are you casting backwards often ? Camera person in your way ? 2. You mentioned large arbour but on the small ones you never used the reel. Any specific reason you hand line them in ? Thanks

Thanks for the comments. It was definitely cool to have Dad along.
As to my cast backwards, it had more to do with the overall situation than just one thing. When fly casting from a boat, it's often necessary to be capable of delivering a back cast. It just keeps others out of harms way.

i was fishing up in gaspe a few years ago and the guides up there thought the increased striper population was causing a decline in the salmon fishery. They pretty much would have liked to see all the stripers dead.

Brutal to see them in there eating the small salmon n trout it's happening in margaree ns I'm not a fan of the stripers in the river I fish the ocean for them wish I never seen another in the rivers
