      Pretend to spit up flem from your throat, but pay attention to what your throat does when you do it. It flips your uvula up onto the base of your tongue. When it's there just hold it there and let small incriminates of air out and it'll make a cricket like cracking noise then you just apply your voice and you have the wookie.

    Thank you so much! Mentioning the Star wars was the best for me. Im not a fan of star wars but i always mocked the sound of Chewbacca, and now you mentioned star wars character, which i did not understand rightly, i tried to scream through chewbaccas voice, as You told i was to suppose to d´feel the vibration up high there. Everybody has told that above the voice chord stuff, but now i really got there with my scream. For me it was the 2 steps here: try to imitate the star war character (for me it was even chewbacca) and then reach your scream to the same vibration. For me it was genius. Thank You!

    Damn screams are really hard for me well mainly false cord and fry scream. I've this one scream called the vocal fry well I think that's what it's called. I've learned a different as well and I used that to make some growl. Another is that one scream the vocalist from The Bezerker does and it sounds real more evil imo. I learned that when I was small without knowing that was scream or what metal was. And I know 3 growls but I think one of them isn't a growl? Maybe it's tunnel throat? Eh Idk but I like it.

I've watched other tutorials similar to yours and when I try them sometimes they kinda work, other times they don't at all. Since I'm 16 I was wondering if my vocal chords not being totally developed yet is an issue and if I should wait awhile, even though my voice really isn't cracky at all. Also I've had my tonsils removed and I have no clue whether that's an issue or if it can be worked around. Btw I love your screaming and your singing voice :D

    I think it's the thousandth time I land on this video, and I am still to learn what you're talking of.
    If I pick a word, say "hey", and then 'force' it upwards like you did in the video, I end up sounding as if I came straight from an Amon Amarth recording session. I feel as if my false chords don't want to go past the, say, C2 threshold (not entirely sure that's the note).
    Still, that Wookie impression is definitely THE proper thing, and your growls are definitely on point.
    Perhaps you could somehow help me with that based on my description of the issue?

    • @Dickey7861
      @Dickey7861  Před 7 lety

      idvhfd it's all about finding the point the rasp comes from. Once you find that all you do is apply your voice with that sound like you're mimicking a dirt bike you feel the rumble in your throats and soft pallet that is now your base sound. Take time when you practice to do that noise and really feel where it is once it becomes muscle memory you can make it louder and slowly raise the pitch. Do that for a couple weeks and you should notice either good progress or at least a better feel for it to keep working on.

    • @idvhfd
      @idvhfd Před 7 lety +2

      Okay, I really wanna kick this comment off by saying that I am absolutely beyond blown away by how quickly you replied. Holy chow, dude! Thanks a bunch for taking the time!
      I seriously feel helpless when trying to raise the false chord, however, there's some things I should have noted in the first comment: I can (or at least believe I can) do mid and low growls using the false chord technique. I feel the throat vibrating, no pressure applied from the throat (except of course the pressure I use to shape the sound, but that doesn't harm me at all), all from the diaphragm. It feels bloody good to do it. I said Amon Amarth because, although I'm not that grumpy just yet, I kind of tend to sound a bit like Johan Hegg when doing my growls.
      As I said, when I go up, the voice seems to stop at some point. At the mid level, it starts to sound pretty lame, although it still is a false chord growl to the best of my knowledge, albeit not very well shaped. And after that point it starts breaking down -- and by that, I mean that it turns into my head voice, or something similar. I just can't keep the rasp when I go up. It's a whole other technique, which I just don't seem to be able to get.
      I would love to explain better but it's 3 in the morning and I definitely can't test it out. But I hope it makes more sense now, at least.
      Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, and my technique has been completely wrong all along? I must mention that I can do the grumpy "sigh" and the pitbull noise. Yeah, can bark okay. It's just going high that is giving me a headache.
      I'm trying to figure out what Jari Maenpaa and Petri Lindroos do to obtain their vocals. No luck on that front either...

    is it normal that my throat hurts after a while of screaming? i've had the same problems with growls at the beginning but now i can growl for hours and not have my voice damaged at all

    I have two questions. Kind of embarrassing but I want to better myself as a vocalist for the sake of my band. 1. What can I do to prevent my voice from cracking/breaking when I do my highs? They tend to crack/squeak sometimes and it sounds kind of bitchy.
    2. How can I prevent myself from releasing too much air when I do tunnel throat/gutturals? Especially when switching from highs to lows?

    My problem is that when I try to do this, it just sounds like a "baby scream": it's super airy and high-pitched, there isn't much distortion on it. It doesn't hurt my voice though. But whenever I try to change the "shape" of the sound, it just sounds strangled and starts to hurt. What am I doing wrong?

    Hey dickey got any tips from me? When i began screaming, false chords high are easier for me to make rather than low growls. Now ive been good at low growl but ive grown bad at making false chords high. What happened to my voice?
    Ive screamed my lungs out so hard this month that my saliva started to have a little bit of a blood. Right now its gone but i cannot make my screams go huskier as i used to
    P.S i smoke and drink

    I have been screaming for about a year and a half and my lows are really amazing. For some reason when i try anything to do with a high scream, my voice goes to about a mid and it wont go any higher and sometimes wont even sound like a scream. I push with my diaphram as well. What can i do to help get it higher? Any suggestions?

    Do how to have long scream times, as in how do you keep your highs and lows for a longer time without running out of breath

    • @johndoh5689
      @johndoh5689 Před 8 lety

      all a matter of practice but the air consumption in false chords is pretty high. if you´re aiming for these chester bennington like miunte-long screams you should try fry

    • @diacrane
      @diacrane Před 7 lety

      holding out a fry isn't impressive though...

    • @johndoh5689
      @johndoh5689 Před 7 lety

      nope but it is technically impossible to hold fc screams that long because your throat is opened wide and there is no barrier for the airflow while your vocal cords are closed when doing a fry
