  • Yesterday we fabricated motor mounts out of some scrap metal. Today we're going to level up the engine to where we want it mounted then we'll add the bushings to the mounts then fabricate the pieces that weld to the frame. The frame, suspension, rear end, brakes etc will ALL be upgraded to accommodate the engine. BONUS EPISODE: • The engine is mounted.... 🙌

The Hot Wheels car that Chad is recreating is similar to a type of drag car from the 60’s called a gasser. Engine mounted further back to increase traction on the rear tires. I’m pretty sure that they used custom built tubular frames that eliminated having to cut the original frame. So, it’s interesting to see how Chad and the guys progress with the project. Jolene, thanks for your always excellent camera work.

You can separate the wishbone tailing arms and make brackets so they attach to the outer frame rails. Or better yet incorporate them in to the the transmission mount cross member with bushings. Having them split on each side of the transmission will provide a little more diagonal support as well as keeping the front and rear axles square to each other.. Be mindful of where you are going to run your headers and exhaust pipes.. Cheers!!

  • @user-yd1ev4uw2w

If the angle is real far off, which I’m afraid it’s going to be, you can use a constant velocity type driveshaft like Lincolns and Cadillacs used back in the 70s to limit the vibration, but I don’t know how they would hold up to drag racing! I’m hoping this will just be a novelty car to take to cruises and shows and not the strip! It’s too cool to ruin ,And it is turning out great!

To all the people asking here why the engine is so far back - he has taken a hotwheels car as inspiration. that is representing a drag racing Gasser thing from 1950s-60s. Tyre technology back then was bad that even widest racing slicks had quite poor traction. Nowhere near to what dragsters have today. So they jacked up the suspensions and moved engines to more the center of the car- to help to get all the car's weight transferred to the rear wheels when launching. Also steel front ends were replaced with fiberglass to further change the weight distribution (you can even find photos on google where driver was sitting where backseat used to be). Cars back then didnt have much power, somewhere around 400-500hp, Gassers ran about 11-12sec on quarter mile but thanks to weight distribution changes these were popping wheelies like motorbikes.

I know you have probably thought about this but is the chassis strong enough to take the power of the engine when you try to launch it on full power ???? it might twist the chassis like a cork screw.

I like the T shirt that Nate has on, be cool to have one, except my T shirts have to have a pocket. The work is coming along. The only thing I would do is and a support to the motor mounts.

Are you putting in new mount bushings after welding, and a question for someone who welds, heating it up that much from welding and cooling so fast dies it make the weld brittle, if so will it fail.

You do so much extra work in fear of a ruler or caliper, but god forbid you drive an hour to get something. Think of all the trips you could make instead of sanding over and over or cutting four times. One or two trips a week and you would still be ahead 4 hours by measuring things. Not to mention all the disks and grinders saved. I’m not trying to troll you, just stating what seems obvious.

Seems like Chad want's the engine to go where it is to match the hot wheels, but putting it as far back and as low as possible will be best for balance and performance too.

If you are simply going for looks, you can do whatever you want but if you are ever going to drive this car and use any of that power, you damn well better box in that entire frame or the first time you put your foot into the gas pedal, that frame is going to twist and that car will be gunk. I fully understand you do everything fast to get done in an hour but this is not something you can throw together like that racecar you built for Jolene. That's maybe 75 hp but this is 400 to 500 hp and needs a solid frame but again if you are just building something to sit so you can look at it just keep doing what you are.

Why can't you people just watch a artist at work.!!??? I'm an artist and having people telling me how to do what I do really gets anoying. That's WHY artist's are different. Because they do things differently . I'm here to help grow the channel and injoy the artist at work. Alot of people seem to injoy thinking they are better than Chad. Fact is we don't wanna hear your advice. Artist's do things differently and their own way .
