- I think Terraria players often speed run the game to Moonlord and never take their time on their worlds. I want to change that. So, over the course of a year I will be playing on this world with each stage of progression being blocked until the start of a new month. Listed below are the progression locks I'll be facing on this journey and come next December we'll finally defeat Moonlord!
January: King Slime & Eye of Cthulhu
February: Brain of Cthulhu & Goblin Invasion
March: Queen Bee
April: Skeletron & Deerclops
May: Wall of Flesh & Pirate Invasion
June: Queen Slime
July: Mech Bosses
August: Plantera & Golem
September: Frost & Pumpkin Moon
October: Duke Fishron & Martian Madness
November: Empress of Light
December: Lunatic Cultist & Moonlord

I didn't realize taking things slowly was so uncommon. I've made the Shell Phone on every single playthrough I've done of this game, purely because I enjoy being methodical and taking my time, doing everything I can before I move on. Not only do I always make a Shell Phone, I also
1. Always isolate the evil biomes by making hellevators (usually with dynamite just to be safe).
2. Always make Terraspark boots.
3. Do the fishing quest at the beginning of each day.
3. When Hard Mode begins, I find the newly created Hallow and Evil biomes and isolate them, too, again with dynamite. This results in big diagonal tunnels and a ton of deaths, but is a lot of fun regardless.
I've done four playthroughs on different worlds with different characters and each one clocked in at over 100 hours because I just... enjoy spending time in Terraria, I guess. I'm glad you too have seen the benefits in taking things a little slower!
Wow, that's a lot to do, glad you've been taking things slowly! Always great to hear from people who do
Besides the Hellevators (Which when I do, I mine them normally, I always do the same thing and take my time. Too bad I can't build at all because I would like to have a nice and pretty world to look at for the 100 hours I spend on it lol

Terraria is a great game you need to try it

I’m glad I could ride along with you on this journey throarbin it’s been epic since February week one.
I haven’t caught a Calamity stream yet but I’ve been doing a one year one world vanilla this new year.
I mean look at it we got you a pet fish because of it 😂
100K!!
100K here we come!
Totally agree with what you said about the jump into Hardmode. I usually don’t make it very far into hardmode for that exact reason; the game practically shifts genre from sandbox rpg to an action rpg.
Luck is actually a good thing to invest into even outside of farming scenarios. It increases your DPS overall, and reduces damage taken overall, because it provides a chance to recalculate bad damage variation.

This is one of my favorite videos on the whole of CZcams I watched the whole thing in one sitting what a perfect video AMAZING!
Thanks :) What's really amazing is that you could watch the whole thing in one sitting, lol
This video is honestly a masterpiece in storytelling. The right amount of excitement, annoyance, mundanity, all wrapped up into a 4 and half hour video. I watched the whole thing in one day and it never once felt like it was dragging on,
You are so underrated, this is definetly my favorite terraria video of all time! Thank you so much for this well spent time of my life! Even a tear fell

Great storytelling, great summary, nice guitar you have there.
10/10, will come back for more, might even re-watch this one a couple of times. 👍
I love how Terraria sports a completionist play time of about 110 hours, meanwhile this guy just goes "A year, take it or leave it!".

This was a fantastic video to watch. The current trend for 100days and whatnot is fun but this was so fascinating. Just watching you slowly take your time and enjoy the game has been super satisfying. Well done!
Loved every second of this video. Truly, I will never get tired of Terraria. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I saw some parts of this several months back, time flies in a motivated Terraria playthrough ❤
yeah, the year was over before I knew it
THIS VIDIO IS FIRE THIS IS MY FRIST TIME SEEING THIS SERIES ITS SO GOOD KEEP UP THE WORK CONGRATS FOR THE PATIENCE I WOULDVE QUIT AFTER 2 MINUTES
2 minutes? lol, that's honestly what I was afraid would happen to me when I started
This video motivated me to try this myself. Right now I’m doing it with weeks not months but I’m going to work my way up to doing the full thing. Love your videos!
First time seeing any of your channel and I love the video! Also 4 hours long video is absolutely in my ballpark of video length!
I have played many worlds... but I always kept this one world as a sort of home base. It was the first expert mode world I made on the day the update rolled out. And I have returned to it and built it in since 2015.
The starlight is, indeed, a good weapon. It has the single highest DPS of any pre-moon lord melee weapon.. with the exception of the jousting lances provided you use a one-shot exploit setup.
It also has a small attack area so it’s good for 1 target…
And just large enough to use on far away/multiple targets
Funny enough when you begun to convert your base into a sky island, that was something I did on my very very first ever world I made when I first got the game years ago. Super excited to see the rest of the video!
and after watching this whole play through as the movie, watching it in one sitting we still don’t get to see how many hours you had on that one character, i’m greatfull for having the enjoyment of watching this play through and watching the montage at the end made me feel like i was truly leaving the world aswell, im sure it was a fun time playing the world and making the memories but one thing i would love to see is one world one year but in 1.4.5 when you can combined all secret seeds, i truly think that would be a remarkable challenge, but good luck in your calamity world i can not wait to watch the movie for that also 👍🏻
Dude said the fetid bagnahks were a disappointing drop, and then immediately proceeded to start using a cutlass.
I was using it for fun, ok 😂
you can ofc craft a endless shimmer bucket since old worlds dont have shimmer so you need a way to obtain it
I Really Love this playthrough. And I am currently recording my calamity mod playthrough and just finished the first part and I absolutely love watching other people do their Terraria playthrough, on my normal playthrough I defeated the brain first and then I realized it was cheaper to make the eye spawner, but I did not mind because it was easier to fight the eye. This is my first time watching one of your videos and love them already. ❤️
This video is amazing and now I feel inspired to start my own slow playthrough where I go through every little detail in the game
I'm sure it was already explained to you, but the Shimmer Golfer is an animal since he's the Zoologist's brother, who is a werefox. So his Shimmer form being an animal is a nod to that.
Congrats on your dedication and time to this! (I can't even play 1 world for 30 hours without making a new one and abandoning the old one)
Yup, that's exactly why I did this long run, lol
so weird, im completely the opposite
ive played terraria occasionally and sometimes less occasionally, for about 3 or 4 years and i've had in total 2 and a half worlds
one of them i put in like 250h or something
@@yurilopes420 I think the reason is that everyone has fun in different ways: for me I like progressing and killing bosses for the "first" time other people might enjoy building or 100%ing the game more
What an underrated channel. Best of luck in your growth man!
Very glad this is how I was introduced to your channel.. honestly I might attempt something like this for my own casual playthrough of Terraria
Have I already seen the whole series? Yes, but I’m going to watch it again.
lol, this one does cut the intros and outros, the first 3 months are re-narrated, and there's an extra week that wasn't included in previous videos, so hopefully it's even better, lol

If you can't afford a thumbnail artist then you should make your own thumbnails. Incredibly disappointing how willing some creators are to completely disregard and throw artists at the wayside.
I'd love to hire an artist and I have made several attempts at finding one but have not found anyone who can make anything close to what I'm looking for. I only use AI art for videos in this series as they have become the defacto style for the series and that happened because nobody clicked on any of the other thumbnails I experimented with. I did have one in particular with an artist's work but the video flopped up until the point I replaced the thumbnail with ai art. The whole ai conversation is much more than just "ai art bad, human art good"
@@Throarbin If you can't find an artist in the Terraria community of ALL communities then you are plain simply not looking hard enough. That is a ridiculous excuse.
AI art is exploitative of the artists it's trained off of but beyond that, thumbnails are one of the most blatant examples of unethical use of AI art. You don't get to use AI trained off the art of others to profit and then lecture someone else about 'the whole ai conversation'.
@@DuncTV Well I have made several community posts, forum posts, requests in my discord, and a request in the Terraria sub reddit for an artist and have gotten zero replies with maybe 2 exceptions. Both of which were fine artists but weren't able to reach the style or standard I needed. One was frankly pretty low and other, although I loved it, performed terribly.
And I wasn't lecturing you on the ai conversation. I'm just saying it's more than a simple good vs. bad. For one, there's the general question of "if you weren't going to buy the thing in the first place are you really taking it away from someone?" Meaning if you could never afford an artist and so found other means, does that take away from the artist you never would have been able to hire in the first place. That's an open discussion that I'm still not sure where I land on, but it is one.
As for ai art being trained on other artist's work, that brings up the question of, first, whether or not the model used skimmed the internet and took everything or used a library of images the company paid for and licensed. Are models trained from art specifically paid and licensed for this express purpose ethical? What of the internet ones? Does ai art "transform" it in any way? Does it matter if it does transform it? Plenty of artists copy or simulate the style of other artists. If copying the style is the problem, then is that ethical? If a person takes ai art and then adds several edits of their own to suit their needs, does that make is acceptable? How much can be ai generated? Can ai give a base from which to go from? Or should ai not be used period no matter what under any circumstance?
In the end it is here to stay and we'll have to figure out how to navigate the whole situation. I appreciate people who do have a strong stance against it and I understand that point of view. I started using ai for the thumbnails of one specific series when all this was still quite young and it has become the style of the series that people look for. If you know of any artists, I'd be happy to meet them.
@@Throarbin I agree, it is more than good vs. bad. What I'm saying your example is bad. You are using this AI art for profit, for your business, AI that was trained using stolen assets. If you cannot afford to run your business then you shouldn't be in business. You aren't allowed to steal assets/supplies/tools just because you can't afford them. AI Art is inherently exploitative when trained on the art of others without consent.
If the model is trained on licensed work or work made by the owner/user of the model that is completely different, ex. the Spiderverse movies used AI. I'm a full-time video editor and I use AI when I use the AE rotobrush.
An AI pulling from a database is not the same as a human being copying someone else's art, and even then people tracing/copying art without credit is pretty frowned upon. There are cases where AI as a tool is fine and ethical, but replacing artists to make thumbnails is not one of them.
If you have a genuine interest in finding artists to work with put in more effort, reach out to people, post to Twitter where there is a pretty big art community, and offer a reasonable rate. I work with artists regularly both in my own content and the content I edit for others. Hell if you make a post I'll boost it for you, help people get in touch, etc.
@@DuncTV Well, I don't know if I'd call this channel a business as much as the thing I do to keep myself busy, but I guess I am making money 😅. I don't have really a twitter account, I made one very recently but just to deal with a whole different situation. But I can make another community post and see what happens if you want to point some people to it 🤷♂
Fantastic series, I only watched it sporadically but seeing it all put together is great!

I love the obvious video quality change when September hits lol, love the video tho! Great idea spending a year with progression lock
Honestly I was going to skip to the end of this video…but bro, you got me so hooked at the beginning I HAD to watch the entire thing…great video bro
As a player that likes to take her time and constantly hears complaints about how i progress "too slow" and i "over prepare" I really appreciated this playthrough. Also my ONLY complaint was the episodes were released so far apart (i mean i completely understand with this format) that i'd often forget where you were in progress or forget to watch the new episode altogether so putting this altogether in one big video had to of been a lot of work but it's extremely appreciated.
This video was amazing. Watching it all the way through !!!
I have just found you, but this video is very nice. I really love the concept.
I belong to those that take it slowly (very very VERY slowly). I have been playing for almost 10 years and just recently got into the hardmode for the first time (coop and journey mode dont count) and switched to master mode because I hate myself I guess. (just defeated queen slime yesterday and preparing for the mech bosses and already 100 hours on the character)
It lets you to explore all the little things the game has to offer when you take your time.
Anyway now I am going to look throu your channel and hit that subscribe botton. xD
Every playthrough:
Craft the Shellphone, Ankh Shield, and Terrasparks.
Acquire a Rod of Discord.
Fish up a Bottomless Lava Bucket and Sponge, and Lava Shark mount.
Fishing Quests for the Bottomless Water Bucket, the SASponge, and the Golden Fishing Rod. Recent playthroughs have added the Honey Bucket and Sponge, and you can tinker the sponges together.
Defeat Moonlord.
Everything else is conditional.

I did something very similar in my personal world when I saw your Reddit announcement posts. I almost want to try making my own video now because of how well made your video is! Great content man.
I used to play terraria LOADS back on xbox when the latest update was 1.2.4 and I considered myself an expert on the game at the time and damn I know absolutely nothing now 😂 This was awesome to see how much as been added and changed since then. Awesome video
This is what I look for in a terraria play through, it’s suppose to be savored and enjoyed like any good game. It has so much to offer it gets easy to overlook
I just LOVE videos like that I'm not even watching for 1/3 of video but listening when playing terraria,(now calamity) thanks for this ❤
Thank you for this series, brother 🙏
I've had a quest to get every single item in the game. If memory serves, I've gotten about 98% of them, with some banners, rare clothing items, and quest items remaining. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time on one world, but it's impossible to be bored when the goal remains incomplete.
i followed this on youtube from the start till the end and i’m happy to see this as a one big movie now
i love the music you chose for this video! great stuff
I just started watching, and the idea of this being locked... I want to start it myself.. January is soon over tho but that's fine :D Cool concept!
my respect has risen so high in this video, as a person who beat the game in one month, i could never see myself being in a world for one year. ill think ill try it next year
This was such a cool challenge, I wish I'd found it earlier than October though. Looking forward to following the Calamity challenge from start to finish! Good luck :)
Thanks! It should be lots of fun :)
A man of unwavering determination and sheer will, hats off to you man!
Dude you just made me wanna comeback again I love the idea of going slow and not moving on fast. You tend to always get overpowered fast so it’s shitty but the fact is you getting items normal don’t and actually making the world change with all its builds is so cool
Love the video I've rewatched it almost twice lol it was good
The only thing I hate about this video is knowing that something similar will take ages. Well done and great job, my biggest "issue" with Terraria is the wiki infection, having 20-50 tabs open because you go down a rabbit hole of what you want to do - but that also leads to (at least for me) avoiding anything "unnecessary" (aka anything that could still be amazing/fun/great to know, but takes too much effort to explore). I've seen a ton of things in here I didn't even know about and is really useful
boooogaloooo of illuuuuuuuuuuuuusionsss

This is a genius idea. Totally different feel to the kinds of Terraria content that is usually made.
Bruh, I've been binge watching on vacation and you're making me wanna play terraria soooo baddd
Great video, I'm loving it so much, but something stuck out to me. It's the assertion that "other mods will often buff vanilla weapons to keep up with their modded things", which is something I've only ever seen Calamity doing, since it's considered bad practice to do so among most mod devs, simply to ensure a basic level of compatibility.
Is it now? I could have sworn I've seen it in other mods
Thank you for feeding my untimely terraria obsession, which happened to fall mid exam season
