- I believe Terraria players often speed run the game and never take their time on their worlds. I want to change that. So, over the course of a year I will be playing on this world with each stage of progression being blocked until the start of a new month. Listed below are the progression locks I'll be facing on this journey and come next December we'll finally defeat the final boss!

Throarbin diving headfirst into the Abyss with absolutely no fear is an experience I can absolutely NOT relate to
I remember years ago I dove deep into the abyss when I knew nothing about Calamity and ran into a reaver shark stuck behind some blocks. I was still in prehardmode but the thing couldn't reach me so I started attacking it to see if I could kill it. Got close, but he unstuck himself, lol
@throarbin wouldn’t a prehardmode character be unable to reach the layer that reaver sharks spawn at? I remember the old abyss being much harder to traverse through so I’m confused.

34:30 Interestingly, you actually can get all the different types of moss on the same world. When you put moss through the chlorophyte extractinator, it will give you back a different variation of moss at random. Once you get the one you want, you can just let it grow somewhere and harvest however much you need. It's a shame that a lot of stuff like that is locked behind later game progression, but at least it's possible at some point.
The Calamity Interludes mod would be perfect for this playthrough - it adds music that plays after certain bosses that help you reflect on how far you've come and how far you have left. Also the regular calamity music mod, of course

If you want your tree to be pink, you need negative paint, because red is the opposite of green, and the green of the leaves is quite dark so the negative paint reverses the light and dark and takes it from being red to being pink. There are white spots in... odd areas, but once it's all done being painted it looks really nice.
I'd also say if you treated the background leaf walls as a completely different layer to the regular leaves and give it a slightly dfferent shape it makes it more interesting and look like a proper 3d tree

YES PLEASE HOUR LONG VIDEOS WOULD BE GOOD. I need more extensive videos to fall asleep to, rewind to the point i fell asleep at, get further in, watch it while doing other work, and all that jazz. Having a monthly video documentary of sorts of something i love would be heavenly :D

A tip for the tree, adding gaps in the leaves by hammering or mining (a mixture of the two works well) and not having a wall behind it can make it look like light is shining through the leaves and more like a real tree.

we already beat the perforators, i went melee and my friend went mage. i mostly did the heavy lifting because my friend knows next to nothing about infernum, but he can survive pretty long in boss fights. we also made our characters resemble different characters, i made mine cirno (from touhou) and he made his sr pelo (the youtuber). we are thinking about stylizing our base, and mabye taking our time more. thats all for this update for our playthrough, will probobly reply later when we progress more.

Edit: but first I will just beat vanilla master mode. It’s the first time beating terraria, too.

Seeing the progression of your skills and knowledge from last year to this year is incredible!
If you are going to be building a castle, I can recommend looking into graveyard biome crafting, Stone Accent Slabs are amazing and provide more depth to your builds since it create a separation between itself and other blocks. Ebonstone Bricks painted gray can also be combined with Gray Bricks to provide a bit more variety. Calamity should also let you craft the Leaf Wand and Wood Wand (as well as the Mahogany variants) can bring more natural wood variety, which I pair with Large Bamboo Walls and Ash Wood Walls to create wood beams/supports.
Also, those metal fences will fit wonderfully, they are a must-have

Calamity Summoner is really OP, the DPS you can deal with whips and the right accessories it can be really ridiculous at times.
26:12 For Rogue just get the accessories "Raider's Talisman" (If you hit a stealth strike, all your rogue attacks will crit 12% more for 5 seconds, so just spam it) and "Rotten Dogtooth" (You need to kill wolves in the tundra, and makes it so your stealth strikes inflict Crumbling, a powerful debuff that reduces enemy/boss damage reduction); with these 2 accessories you will impregnate every single boss till Hardmode.
27:57 I think is negative paint for the glowing pink effect on the leaves or something like that.
For building, if you place a tombstone on the "crafting stations" section of Magic Storage you can craft the walls (and I think other blocks) that are only available when you craft them in The Graveyard mini biome.
34:58 Calamity adds a doll to negate the Voodoo Doll Demons spawns when it's in your inventory. It's called "Voodoo Demon Voodoo Doll" I think.
Your trophy room looks great! I like the white-and-black aesthetic. Remember that EVERY new biome in Calamity has available pylons, so you could make dope buildings on those biomes. Also 19:45 please make the claw of this building bigger, it looks odd that the base is thick and the claw is tiny.

21:15 the "spiky things" on a Castle Wall are called Merlon, although they aren't always spiky, they tend to be more blocky bumps rather than spikes.

I'm so excited for this series! Terraria and Calamity mod is already one of my favorite games, but seeing someone pushing it to it's extreme sounds awesome
I've done something similar with a progression based Minecraft modpack, except rather than a set time where I could do certain things, I made a very long checklist of things I wanted/needed to do, some for progression, others just for fun, and others just for the sake of doing them or because I could.
Highly recommend making a checklist for each month (or probably better just the current and/or next month, and just continuing to expand it with new things as you come up with them! It really makes you appreciate all the little things a lot better, that's just my two cents though, hope to continue seeing how this goes! Good luck!

you should make a dedicated room with chests for equipment you get in every stage of progression! and if you ever have nothing to do ( i doubt you will ) you should get every weapon in the current stage and put it in the chest! i think it would be cool to then look back at all the stuff in order instead of just throwing it in the magic storage where you will never see it again.
Yeah, someone mentioned a sort of trophy room last year and I love the idea, it'd just mean I'd probably have to get multiple copies of everything which I suppose wouldn't be a big deal considering how much time I got
I wouldn't use chests. Weapon mounts would probably be a better idea due to massive crafting trees.

If you want cherry blossom looking leaves, painting regular leaves with negative paint works best I think, but mixing water and shimmer to get aether blocks also is an interesting one I tried recently.

I would recommend getting the "Scourge of the Desert" weapon from the boss of the same name, it has gotten a really cool rework recently.
Calamity also has fascinating and extensive lore, so if you're into that, it's definitely something you'll wanna watch out for

The best part about calamity is that the classes are defined from the very start. You can easily beat the game without using any other weapons other than what your class uses, which I love.

You're right about the platinum brick and glass walls. I have a few potential ideas to change it.
In place of the platinum, the first things that come to mind are grey mahogany fence and grey shadewood if you wanted a grey vertical wall support. Alternatively paint either brown if you prefer the contrast.
As for the glass, it's a bit harder to 1:1 this because I think lead fence is better than glass for stone heavy designs, but I would probably use stone slab as the main wall and then grey brick as the accent in a pattern that makes a u and an upside u on the bottom and tops of the sections respectively.
Or if you want horizonal support the best suggestion I have is grey ashwood walls along the top or 2nd from the top block, though grey mahogany wall is a fine replacement. Prioritize the vertical supports over the horizontals when they cross.
Hope something here helps in some way, even if it's just inspiration.

I am pretty sure that rage fills up just by being near enemies, not just attacking them. I also have found that while I never used the rouge class in combat, I found it extremely helpful for going into the abyss. I also found when playing calamity that most true melee weapons don't decrease the stealth bar, but it won't increase while you are using them

That structure in the Snow biome is known as the Mechanic's Abandoned Shack. You may recall that the Mechanic's favorite biome is the Snow biome. It's a neat little thing.
As someone that's played Calamity dozens of times I can't imagine playing without Recipe Browser not even I can remember exactly what I need for everything or what exactly is a material for later.
Calamity adds a good amount of new blocks and other options for building, so experimentation is always something to try if it interests you. I once built an undergound lab complex that had a terrarium for every biome (biome water fountains included), unfortunately that world is lost to time.
Looking forward to the rest of the year! Maybe you'll actually get the stellar tune on tier this time.
A couple of points:
1. If you are using mods then I can't recommend VeinMiner enough. I know you want to keep it as "vanilla" as possible but honestly playing calamity without vein miner is like eating cereal without milk. Also the alchemist npc is another good addon mod if you get bored of crafting buffs but isn't as necessary as if you want to keep your mod list short.
2. When playing rouge always test out the effects of each weapon's stealth strike. Most of the time just spamming is your best option but occasionally you'll find a weapon (for example the deep sea dumbell) that is just absolutely ridiculous with a stealth strike charged up.

One of the first things i like to do when i start a new world is find the snow biome. I e caves can have a ton of valuable resources stashed away and can lead to long and fruitful spelunking sessions but the main reason i go there early is to stock jp on snowballs. A lot of the tougher enemies at the start of a world (mainly Crimson and Corruption enemies) are walls making those areas essentially impassable, however snowballs have a ton of knockback allowing you to keep them away, chip them down, and keep exploring. Using this i get the surface explored, check each ocean for chests, then start more traditional Terraria progression
I think the lights and shadows mod would make your world look a lot more ambient and emmersive! Anyhow Good video! Liked and subbed

Since calamity has so much content, tweaks a lot of the base game, and terraria itself has so much content. This play through should be very rewarding with lots to see and do

honestly, i’d consider vein miner part of the vanilla calamity experience. the 4 qol mods i see in every calamity play through are magic storage, vein miner, recipe browser, and boss checklist. this is the first run ive seen without those last 3.

The spiky things on the castle are called crenulations, they we're used as something for archers to stand people during incoming fire and when they would have to draw their bows, They we also often accompanied by holes right behind the crenulation, which allowed the archers to shoot anyone who pressed themselves all the way up to the wall, these holes are called machicolations

Ive seen a couple other comments about it, but I DEFINITELY recommend the Calamity Music Mod! It adds unique tracks to every boss, biome, and event added by the mod, all of which are really well done! It adds a ton to the mod experience without altering gameplay at all, so I would highly suggest checking it out!
So i have some recommendations going forward.
For the crane, I would say to simply flatten out the shapes and use a reference image or two to decide on a look. I find that when working with references, you want multiple, so you can still build in your own style. Those kinds of cranes also tend to use loading platforms and not hooks, which will open more avenues for decorating the crane, as you could load the platform with large chunks of stone or crates.
For the tree at spawn, to get the blossom leaves that you're after, you can just paint the leaves with negative paint, though Calalmity might add some blocks that would look better for that.
And for inventory space going forward, since you have magic storage, I would absolutely say to craft a storage remote. At first, their range is somewhat limited, though it can be extended through the use of pylons, but later on they have NO LIMIT on range. They're extremely useful, and absolutely worth the materials.
I often just have long-plays running in the background while I do my own grinding in other games. I would ABSOLUTELY enjoy hour-long videos!
It's been a while since I've seen the pink tree builds. I THINK it's inverted paint, but it could just be bright pink paint (mix silver, and whichever shade of pink/purple fits what you're going for). However, since the last time I saw it was done, was by a master builder, it could even be something else entirely used AS leaves.
