    Hey Master Automotive training. I contacted you guys yesterday after seeing this video and how you guys fixed that 96 jeep 4.0. I'll be bringing my 94 in for diagnosis here very shortly. Thanks again

    Really loved watching this class, I like learning about engine emissions, engine efficiency, the ”five gases readings” and how the catalytic convertor copes with this . I would really like to understand better in which range of lambda factor the engine gets the best fuel economy and how the 5 gases readings look like.

    Thanks that was very helpful.
    In Australia we don't do a lot of gas analysis (hard to find someone with a modern analyser) and so far the only test I've been able to do is with an older 4 gas analyser i.e. NOx is not included.
    Car (2015 1.3 L Yaris) is running well
    CO 0%
    O2 0.4%
    CO2 16.2%
    HC 5 ppm
    Lambda 1.01
    However I wish I could do the test on a more modern analyser to check the NOx levels.
    🙂

    useful trick for inspection time, that i used a few times on V12 Jags from my shop: how do you fix a car with no compression,or very low compression on one cylinder(burned exh valve,very bad rings etc) in one minute?

    Could you clear up a little bit on CO. You state that ideally you want CO to be 0%, but also state that low CO indicates a lean condition. My thought process is if its low and I have high 02 readings then it would definitely indicate a lean condition and you can't look at CO alone to pinpoint a lean condition?

    • @MasterAutomotiveTraining
      @MasterAutomotiveTraining  Před rokem +2

      Hello Jeff, thanks for watching and your comment. Ideally we want CO at 0%, you are correct with CO at 0 and a O2 of let’s say 3% yes you’d be having a true lean condition. Verifiable with a lambda calculator. With that said when we have a low amount of fuel to oxygen it will be considered lean. When I stated low CO is lean, that’s because it has less fuel and more oxygen thus meaning it’s lean. Did that make sense?

    My plug & dashboard mounted ODB2 is able to shows air fuel ratio but no reading for MAF in a Honda. Able to show egr % opening.
    Inversely this same OBD2 shows MAF of 4.7g for 1.8 litre Mercedes M271 engine year 2006 vs MAP of 7.35psi vs 750rpm corrected for IAT of 100F but no reading for air fuel ratio or egr opening. Visually and by readings of OBD2 it appears that this 2nd car has only one 02 sensor located upstream of the cat convertor.
    Using 750rpm/2/60 x 1.8 x corrected air density = 5.7g/second.
    4.7/5.7 = 83% of all pistons running displacement - soley by simple mathematic. Not considering suction valves close off typically at 60 degree after DBC for suction stroke. So 4.6g/second at 750rpm I would consider it acurate or at least no slight vacuum leak.
    During on the road the O2 sensor shows small changes of 0.6V to 0.75V in open road. Short & long fuel trims % readings looks to be in tightly held range of less than +/-2%.
    It will only drop to 0V on rapid stopping for traffic lights. It does drop below 0.4V when doing a non agressive braking to a stop. And it also does occasionally goes up 0.84V.
    When on a flat road & set auto cruise for 47mph at 2000rpm the MAF is 18g/second vs 23g/second mathematically for pistons running displacement base on air intake pressure of 13.5psi by MAP.
    No idea on the EGR opening. Only occasion push towards 22psi when supercharge comes on.
    For year 2006 cars or earlier the ECU does not interograte the O2 sensor by intermittently cutting off the fuel injectors?.
    At steady of 55mph it need no more than 1.9US gallon for 60 miles for this 1.6 ton car.
    Regarda.

    I have suzuki baleno 2003 with no catalytic convertor. I do exhaust analyzer test at idle with cold engine and values are
    O2 = 2.93%
    CO2ir = 8.53%
    Co = 1783 ppm
    Nox = 64 ppm
    According to your lecturer that i lean its show lean condition.
    My cars fuel average is not good while car starting and its pickup is good. No jerks no rough idle main issue is fuel average.
    Please guide

      Dear Friend, hello! You have 1783 ppm of HC when engine is cold. Every car makes the air/fuel mixture rich while engine is cold. Re check your car after it fully warms up and compare to whats shown in video.
