hello everyone this is Brenda, from the exciters. I just want to say that you have all been so wonderful and such dedicated fans, that I would like to thank you all personally on july 31st at Lincoln Center In manhatten. singers have been asked to perform to pay tribute to the wonderful Late Ellie Greenich. It's such and honor to be a part of this wonderful occasion. I also get to thank you all personally. Hoping to see you soon Brenda
sisreid. Believe it or not, you are number 4 on my bucket list. It says meet Brenda Reid, one of the all time best voices ever. Will never forget the first time I saw the Exciters. I think it was either in queens or Long Island. I already loved the group but seeing you in person was unbelievable. Already knew how good you sounded but the moves were so much cooler than other groups. I was so impressed. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories. Thank god for CZcams. At least we can see and hear you again.
Hello Girls, you really nailed it and thanks to you having a boyfriend was less confusing. I was like you.....a dreamer about my guy who would always be my destiny. So, rocking the bear gave the video a real magic, thanks
I can’t thank you all enough for your love and loyalty and encouraging words. Your dedication is what keeps me singing and not giving up. I’m still getting ready to record again and all future recordings will be on my website . I will give info as soon as possible. May you all be blessed and safe . 🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Where do I want to thank you for your music your talents and your voice if it wasn't for you singing the way you do I wouldn't be here I say that because I was in foster care and they treated us like dirt and when I listen to your songs you made it you know you make life better so I want to thank you for that love always
This is the song my grandma played to let my grandpa know she was interested in him. I get the feeling that without this song I may never have been born. So thanks for it!
A voice that's second to none! It's too bad they don't make songs like this nowadays! The youngins sure don't know what their missing! No auto tune here for sure! ❤️
Missed the Beatles at Olympia Stadium (which was torn down later) in Detroit in '65. I was 16, 60 miles away, tickets were $4(!!!!!), but with a single, working, divorced mom & absent father, it was still too expensive. 😉 You'd think the Fab 4 would have stayed together & come back when I had a job, wouldn't you?! (Whine) Bless Ringo for all the All-Star shows. He aimed to please and sure did!! 😍😘💕
Have listened to this song all my life since the 60’s probably . Thing is this is the first time I’ve seen the faces behind the music and learned their names . What beautiful precious folks . Thank you Brenda for blessing the world with your voice all these years. How many times songs like this and others from that era have lifted my heart a really couldn’t begin to say. Just singing about love, real love from the heart and the joy and sorrow it brings . Oh, that the music were still so wholesome, original and passionate .
I can remember as a little toddler dancing to this song with my late Mom in our living room in Michigan late 1962 early 1963 What fond memories they were.
They sure are dressed up for a trip to the zoo. Terrific song, Brenda has such a strong, gutsy delivery. One of the best singers of that era -- and one who didn't get enough credit or acclaim. Thanks for posting this video.
Sisreid what a wonderful tour of The UK we did with Brenda and Herbie they were so good and two lovely people I've got such great memories of that tour xx
One of the most perfect records ever made. The Exciters also recorded the original version of "Do Wah Diddy", which was covered by Manfred Mann. They also did the original "He's Got The Power", which was regendered and covered by Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders. They also did a great version of the Jarmels' "A Little Bit Of Soap" on Bang Records. Best of all, this song was an integral component of the plot line of the vastly underrated "Ally McBeal" television series from 1997-2002. Great stuff!
This song has always been one of my all time favourites. It is haunting, energetic and captivating. Brenda and the gang must have had a fantastic feeling making this clip. Classic !!!
One of my Grandad’s favorites. He told me the story of how on a stormy night in 1968, my grandma turned on this record as a subtle way of letting him know she was interested in him. He took the hint. Match made in heaven. They were married on July 12, 1969, and remained happily married until Nana passed on to the other side 49 years later.
james mcafee . There is a live version of this on CZcams that was from a French tv show back in the sixties. Just search for the Exciters live. They had such cool moves for the day and the best lead singer Brenda Reid
Daisy Jane she was one of the best. Search for the Exciters live on CZcams and you will see them performing this and he's got the power live on a French tv show back in the sixties

One of the most incredible songs ever written..and sung by an incredible artist..this still is infectious..try not tapping your feet to this..this is 'The Big Chill'..
Loved this from the first time I heard it at age 12 and always thought about the lyrics and every school year at least one girl I loved in school but was too shy to even talk to her and this happened at least once every school term year until before Xmas 1964 months away from my 16th birthday when I got up the nerve to approach the beautiful Puerto Rican girl I loved and she said "I like Irish boys" (In the Bronx if you were white and didn't look Italian to most people you were automatically Irish although I had little Irish blood) She was my first teenage love affair and first woman at all so she was always special to me and still to this day and as long as I live RIP Maria, Voy a amarla siempre. Vaya con Dios Thanx for the posting friend
Although I was a very young kid when this song came out. However, I loved then and still do this very date. this displays true singing talent that you had to have back then.
Been on You Tube since "06 but has only has little more than a million hits! Why don't this excellent song has more hits and who on Earth would give this song a thumbs down!?!
Well done. You tell the universal true! I'm always glad to hear something positive and humanistic like as you say. Good song and beautiful voices! God bless you!
Wow. The director of this clip spends about 65% of the song focusing on the Exciters and about 35% focusing on various animals. Here is what the breakdown should be. About 99.8% on the Exciters, and about 0.2% on the animals. The animals are fine, but we've all seen footage of animals before. It is rare and wonderful to see this band in action. Brenda Reid's voice in this song launched a million female soul singers and rockers.
Steve G so true. I saw them live a couple of times back in the sixties. They were unique in that they had moves that were cooler than almost any other group of the time. If that wasn't good enough, they had one of the best lead singers of all time. What a shame they were not more successful. Someone did not do his/her job but it was not any of them
The song that was a "Revelation" to Dusty Springfield. She loved the "Attack" of it and soon changed her singing style to R&B and Motown and took it back to England.
Dusty very carefully chose her songs and loved MOTOWN. In the early recordings she'd double track her vocals so they'd sound more powerful (she introduced the Phil Spector wall of sound technique to the recording studios in England). Of course, she eventually developed a style all her own with the Dusty in Memphis Lp and "Look Of Love."
What a great voice...and what an awesome video. This was done looong before music videos were the norm and was most likely done with a tiny budget. What a gem.
Many years before there was such a thing as a "music video", the Exciters put this wonderful film clip together. This is 1962. Fifty years ago. I have nothing but the deepest respect for the group, but I also tip my hat to the cinematographer. Yes, he got the lion stalking in time to the vocals. Unreal.
praise God every one. As you probably already have heard, Gladys from the marvelettes has gone to be with the Lord. I had the priviledge of meeting and working with her and I'm honored. She will be missed greatly and remembered greatly. May she rest in peace. God Bless you all.
I had no idea this existed. Ladies, you rock! This is one of the greatest songs and performances of its own or any era. It would be great to have a re-make, and I know you can sing as well or better now!
I want to thank you all for your appreciated and heart felt comments you all mean so much to me thank you so much and god bless you all from Brenda of the exciters
Actually, this wasn't taken from a TV show. Long before the invention of "music videos," Scopitones were short 16mm films made to play in bars and restaurants on what were essentially jukeboxes with TV-like screens. You'd select a tune, drop in your coins and the film clip you wanted to see was selected from a reel inside and rear-projected onto the device's small screen. Some Scopitones, like the Soundies which preceeded them, were quite imaginatively staged; others simply showcased a performer in from of a stationary curtain. All, though, preserved those stars (and sometimes non-stars) at their peaks as they were shot around the same time that the songs were hits. In some cases such litle shorts are the ONLY filmed record of these performers in action.
Good history here. Never heard of anything like it, so it must've been ahead of its time. I've always liked watching videos of the same artist while at the bar.
Didn't exist in Australia. For starters, "Bars" didn't exist here in the 60s, we had only pubs. And restaurants were not offering this kind of thing either.
@sisreid I am 10 years late, I want to say thank you for your wonderful contribution of music and great voice, I love this song and video so much, and I love the Exciters, though I'm from a different time, this song always gives me inspiration as well as determination and motivation. The Exciters were very underrated group. Their musical talent was certainly on a par with the best of the Motown female groups.

I used to watch this 16mm film clip on a Scopitone Jukebox while stationed at Mactan Air Base in the Philippines back in 1966. So many great memories!
LOVE her lead vocal voice!! So unique and powerful.
Love this song. It brings back a lot of wonderful memories. I think the animals are really enjoying the music!

My God I love those dresses...I need to find a vintage shop, ladies in the 50's and 60's knew how to dress.
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there

Love the Exciters!!! Classic song! :)
Great song and music video! Just love it so did the bear!
She looks just as beautiful as she sounds singing. I've been hearing this song for a long time, and I had to finally look for a video to see who she is 😋
Total devotion to her Man & mine...The Idolized perfect man...with all the heartaches.
This is a good of example for performers, and for people who execute works of art , of how things happen differently "on the edge".
There is no caution or timidity --
Just power and strength of purpose.
When you execute with fearless clarity , your work is thrilling.
As a young boy I was madly in love with the singer, Brenda Reid. Oh gawd I still am!
Brenda you are beautiful. Always remembering you and the exciters.
WOW! Just discovered this outstanding singer.
How I miss this kind of music! Super talented and fun to listen to!!
This song has a piercing sound like no other. From the opening notes to Brenda's exciting voice, earns the group's name, "The Exciters".
I remember this as a twelve year old in NYC.
I'm glad this song keeps popping up as it did in "Cloverfield, Glee, etc.
A true classic.
It should have been used in "Dirty Dancing", since it fits the time period.
This song really speaks to me! I love it!
Wow wow wow - just what a voice.

I know something about love
You've gotta want it bad
If that guys got into your blood
Go out and get him
If you want him to be
The very thought of you
Make you want to breathe
Here's the thing to do
[Chorus]
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
I know something about love, you gotta show it and
Make him see the moon up above
Go out and get him
If you want him to be always by your side
If you want him to only think of you
[Chorus]
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
Ever since the world began, it's been that way for man
And women were created to make love their destiny
Then why should true love be so complicated, oh yeah?
I know something about love
You gotta take his hand
Show him what the world is made of
One kiss will prove it
If you want him to be always by your side
Take his hand tonight, swallow your foolish pride
[Chorus]
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
Oh, you have to go now
(Tell him that you're never gonna leave him) oh, yeah
(Tell him that you're always gonna love him) yeah
(Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now)
Don't you let him go, now
(Tell him that you're never gonna leave him) oh, yeah
(Tell him that you're always gonna love him) yeah
(Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now)
[Fade]
Just take his hand in yours and tell him

I have nothing but the deepest respect for the group, but I also tip my hat to the cinematographer. Yes, he got the lion stalking in time to the vocals. Unreal.
I love all these songs....
Wow, remember seeing the Exciters perform this at Wigan Casino in the 70s. Great Scopitone.
this is clearly as good as it gets
I have loved this song all my life. Thank you!
praise God every one. As you probably already have heard, Gladys from the marvelettes has gone to be with the Lord. I had the priviledge of meeting and working with her and I'm honored. She will be missed greatly and remembered greatly. May she rest in peace. God Bless you all.
Dionne Warwick brought me here..She sings background vocals on this song.. I originally heard this on Living Single back in the 90's
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
I had no idea this existed.
My very best to one of the great ladies of song.
You are fabulous🧡
This girl can SING !!
My father had a record store in the late 1960s I remember this song making me happy.
Brenda we love you !
One of my favorites back in '63. Thanks for this post!
Super interesting, thank you...
Good history here. Never heard of anything like it, so it must've been ahead of its time. I've always liked watching videos of the same artist while at the bar.
Thank you so much Very intersting
i saw a tornados one
Didn't exist in Australia. For starters, "Bars" didn't exist here in the 60s, we had only pubs. And restaurants were not offering this kind of thing either.
One of my all time favorite songs. not to mention pretty woman a bonus.
@sisreid I am 10 years late, I want to say thank you for your wonderful contribution of music and great voice, I love this song and video so much, and I love the Exciters, though I'm from a different time, this song always gives me inspiration as well as determination and motivation.
