    Only thing I’ve replaced is the ac compressor and the distributor cap and rotor. Like a rock!

    I was in the right place at the right time when I bought my 1997 gmc regular cab short bed, 4.3, metallic green body really straight no accidents no bondo, tire set up thin in the front, thicker in the back, lowered, just the way I bought this truck was so amazing all kinds of people wanted to buy it my first day driving it, thumbs up all over the place. But the thing is that I only paid $700 for this beautiful truck I couldn't beleive this deal.

    According to the manuals of my 94 Chevy Suburban, there is one more thing that included in towing package. There are 2 thick cables, pre-placed, in red and blue color, the red one also have a 30A in-line fuse. One end of these cables is at driver side of the end of rail frame, the other end is under the cruse control module, both ends don't connect anything, just raped by electronic plasters. They can be used as AUX power supply and brake control for the 7-pin trailer socket.

    Nice trucks 👍. I have a 97 z71 with the L31 5.7(350). It's a heavy duty half ton. Has the big 14bolt rear end and heavier springs than the regular half ton. It has been a good truck, that's for sure. It's only a few miles shy of turning over 300k, and I still ride it every day.😉

    I have a extd cab stepside with the vortec v6. It feels like a v8. The machine just won’t quit. When I was a teenager, I would top it out everyday on the highway to and from work and it never once gave out on me. I’ve gotten older, so I don’t drive like that anymore; however, it still runs like new. I enjoy driving it over my dad’s new truck with a v8. These trucks are awesome. Keep up the great videos. 👍

      The way the 4.3 trucks were set up, they really did act like the 5.7. They were given 155-170 hp, but where GM made the 4.3 wake up was in the Vortec heads as well as a higher rear end gear ratio. Giving the engine more get up and go ability. I have owned Six 4.3 powered GMT400 (OBS trucks), Two 5.0 (total dog of an engine by the way) and Four 5.7 liters. The last 4.3 I owned had well over 250,000 miles and is still going strong. The two 5.7 liter trucks I own now do fine for what they are, but they can't hold a candle to the economy and Butt Dyno feeling you get with the 4.3. Enjoy it! They are very dependable engines! Cheers! Zip~

    Great Video sir and good time taken to show exactly what your explaining. VERY HELPFULL as I am in Australia and have a 1992 GMC extra cab/ extended cab 2x4 5.7 Auto in Right hand Drive. Vehicle was converted here to Right hand drive and its had a proper job done and all these conversions were done 1990 to 2000 using factory Right hand drive parts as GM was selling Suburbans here new through Holden dealers. Owning an OBS GMT400 turns heads here as i have the only one i have seen in 6 months in a city of 4 million.
    Watching this video showed me exactly where my water leaks on the left side are coming from and it was a head sctatcher to start with.
    You dont see these trucks here so finding body/interior parts is all from internet searches and from America. Mechanicals are pretty easy to get but not locally, also over the phone and delivered next day.
    The brakes are woefull but all brand new on mine and the pedal is still low and spongy but the later type smaller master cyl is the best option, you dont heed rear discs.
    I will install the 1976 400ci 2 bo;lt motor i have spare complete with hi perform internals. I am looking at either the Holley Direct Bolt on 2 injector setup mounted on an edelbrock rpm 4 bbl with an adaptor or will be using a 454 injector with a 95 vortec fuel pump, either way i want to retain the original dash gauges and original gear shift harness as i just put a 600hp capable 4L60E in it, cost $4800 here to get it done and installed. The 400 was in my Camaro 18 years , its done very little work and will push the comp up to 11:1 with new pistons and AFR,s.
    My truck has suffered from poor ownership and lazy dont know how to fix owners for what i can gather 20 years at least. and most of the things i replaced were simple jobs. NOW looking for a good Californian NEW parts seller so i can buy all my new exterior parts, bumpers, grill, lights, mirrors, rubbers, mouldings, badges, door handles and locks, i have a great imported in Long Beach many years that brings to Australia cars and parts then i can get the truck a full strip and repaint including paint strip all the bad areas. So glad when i see reliable information i will use like this video.
    thanks again

      It's always awesome to have the only "ute" or Truck around. These trucks are everywhere all over the US, Canada and Mexico and I get that parts can be hard to get! We had a Holden imported to us and it was called the Chevrolet SS. It was a 4 door LS powered beast of a car. I believe over there they made Ute's from the same assembly line and we have a company here that imports the Ute's to make them US legal, which is MUCH easier here than over there as I understand it from watching Marty and Moog on Mighty Car Mods. Great to hear from you Steve! Be Safe! Zip~

      Yeah and I think the '95 was the last year for the external slave. I don't buy any trans with an internal unless the vehicle was cheap cheap cheap..I have had too many internal slaves fail when it gets cold and never with any warning at all. But any of the 95's with the 5 spd would be my rather have than the 4l60e. I don't mind a 4l60..I just prefer the mechanical transmission because it's half the price to rebuild and lasted as long if not longer.

    Great trucks. My family had a few over the years. I had a 97 teal and gold chevy c1500 xcab swb 350/ 4l60e with tow package. Sold it when i bought a gold 93 gmc k2500 4x4 350/ nv4500 5 speed. Dad had a red 89 chevy c3500 350/ Th400 reg cab welding truck and later a white 97 c3500 xcab 454/ 4l80e welding truck. His “Regular” vehicles were a 96 red c1500 suburban 350/ 4l60e and a 99 gmt400 c1500 350/ 4l60e that was still the “old style” like 88-98. It had the more expensive modular fuel pump assy. like 1999-2005 trucks with integral fuel pump as opposed to a separate replaceable pump like my 97. It cost twice as much to buy a fuel pump for the 99. My Brother ordered a black 89 c1500 chevy swb stepside new with a 350 nv3500 5 spd and 3.73 posi. (Tow package iirc) It would have been the one to keep. Im about 99% sure that the 700r4/ 4l60 vs 4l60e has nothing to do with trailer package vs no trailer package. I think that just came about with the model change (1993 IIRC all trucks went to electronic control). Also “G80” was a designator across the board for positraction. Im sure there are others

      I bought the first flip out and extendable step and although that sucker was $50, I HAD to have a second one for Old Blue. They really help in getting in and out of the bed and with my bad leg, it's as simple as walking up steps. I sent an email about Sylvester's A/C. Should be an easy fix. I also mentioned that I've got a brake controller to install on Sylvester so I can take advantage of the electric brakes on the trailers. The one I showed is the small one. This truck can handle both the 18' and the 22 foot with no issues so long as I have the distribution hitch. I'm going to try and source one for my self so there's a second one in the mix. As it stands, we've got just one between the two trailers and I won't attempt to pull either without that hitch. Anyhow!! You've got a long read with the email I sent you a few minutes ago. I'm on the fence with the side boxes at the moment, but the cross over box will be going in very soon. More than likely, after some careful thinking and reorganizing, the side boxes will go back on, but with different tools more tuned to roadside assistance. Currently they are geared towards tree removal, and I'm fading out of that profession as I'm no longer able to climb. Cheers 720!! Zip~

      Heya 720. I managed to put all of the important stuff from the side boxes in the main box and I think I'm going to just stick with the one for the time being. But, they're easy to install. If you buy new ones, they'll come with installation hardware and instructions. I just put three bolts evenly spread apart into the bed to secure them, but I think new ones come with hooks to mount them and not have to do any drilling. Cheers! Zip~

I have a 95 and the 2 wheel peel didn’t work, so I swapped it with another axle with 140k and verified the 2 wheel peel worked beforehand. It stopped worked immediately after I installed it. That’s with 80-90 gear oil with friction modifier just like from the factory. I swear GM posi is garbage, they’re only good for a couple 2 wheel peels, then they’re toast. Chrysler trac loc is where it’s at. Easy to rebuild, and I’ve seen trucks with over 200k and it still worked

      These Eaton lockers are not designed to take the abuse of doing burn outs with them. They are for keeping traction at low speed (30mph is when they disconnect by design). I've had a few GMT400's with this locker and never had a single issue. But I don't abuse my vehicles either. Most of the failures I hear about are from people who say, I was doing a sick burnout, then bang.....no more posi-trac. Well......this isn't a Posi unit. It's there to assist in keeping traction at low speed. So no....they're not junk, but they're also not intended to be an alternative to a true posi unit. Just saying. Zip~

    @mickymaust2059 Před 4 lety +2

    The weights displayed on the hitch are way above the capability to safely and legally haul a trailer. That trailer and the weight you want to pull is to much for a half ton truck from the 90s remember you still have to stop it reliably and the frame is not designed for it. You need a 3/4 ton truck. You are running the risk of killing people on the road including my family. Please always keep the the weights that are posted on the truck (some math may be needed) and not the weights on the hitch

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  Před 4 lety +2

      Micky, Thank you for this comment. At the most, I would only tow 7,000 lbs and then only with trailer brakes and load leveling supports. I know that although the hitch states an 11,000 max that the truck it self cannot handle that weight. I would never jeopardize life by over loading. So your family is safe my Friend. I've seen the results of overloaded vehicles and trailers and it never ends well. The covered trailer loaded with what we typically tow doesn't amount to much. But 95% of the time, we use the 3500HD Diesel for that trailer and the 22 foot. I'm the third truck in the towing fleet, so typically, I'm pulling a 12 foot open trailer and a couple of riding mowers. #2 truck is a 2500HD. My neck might be red, but it's not foolish. Cheers! Ok your wrong about a couple of things. Heavy half, no. Chevy made a 2500 with six lug axles, with a 14 bolt axle the same as in the 2500. That was the heavy half or light three quarter.
    2. 700r4 and 4l60e will not hold up to towing the weight you showed with the weight distributing hitch. But thats not right either. Says weight distributing trailer. Ok on your black truck, that anti lock brake system sucks. My advise is pull the fuse. You will love your brakes again. Dont take this wrong there both great trucks. Just telling you the weak links. If your pulling weight get a 4L80 in any early tbi 2500 truck. I had a 1991 2500 suburban with one of the first 4L80 transmissions in it, I pulled with it daily, hauling a two car car hauler. For like three years. Never had any issues. One more quick thing the ten bolt rear axles in those trucks also do not hold up very good. If you can fing a 14bolt six lug in a junk yard it would be a great idea. If you pull heavy loads with it, add two trans coolers with a good electric fan. Add a trans temp gauge also. I am a GM mechanic and build these trucks. Had hundreds of them. They are far more dependable then 97- 07. Another great truck I loved was a 91 1500 with the 4.3 and a five speed. Hauled weight with it and other then replacing three ten bolt rears there were no issues . Five speed is amazing and with it I never missed the 5.7...

      There was a heavy half. Blatant examples are a 2wd trucks that have six lug axles, when if they were standard 1/2 tons shoulkd have 5 lug axles and rotors. IIRC the heavy 1/2 is RPO-F44.
      There was also the LD and HD 3/4 tons. The LD 3/4 tons had the 6 lug axles and a GVRW under 8600pounds. The HD 3/4 ton had the over 8600pounds rating and the GM trucks used the 8 lug axles

      In your glove box should be a sticker with a bunch of codes on it. The Code you're looking for to see if your truck came from the factory with the Tow Package is "VR4". If that's there, you can bet that along the way, someone removed the hitch. If it has the Code VR4, then the towing capacity is 6,000 without load leveling hitch and 11,000 with.
