The Logitech G815 mechanical keyboard is up there with one of the most amazing keyboards I have ever used. Seriously no joke. Hate them or love them but Logitech keeps on raising the bar and this keyboard is no different.
The ultra-low-profile Romer gl mechanical switches are SOOOO satisfying to type on (the version I got was the linear red switch) and make hardly any noise while typing. The body is made of aluminium which is expected given the price of the keyboard as well as the RGB which is fully customizable in the Logitech G Hub software so you can sync it up with all of your other Logitech g hub peripherals suck as the g pro wireless mouse and g935 wireless headphones for example.
Now I know it might seem like a bit of a nitpick but the fact the secondary characters on the number row and symbol area do not light up is just plain up annoying, especially since I know that there will be a lot of gamers/pc enthusiast/programmers etc who will use this keyboard at night a lot for more than just gaming and will probably find it frustrating not being able to see those keys.
So will I use this keyboard as my daily driver.. probably not. Which really bums me out.
Thanks again to Logitech for sending out this product for review! See you all in the next one!

If you remove a keycap you can see why the lighting is the way it is. The new Logitech switches (as opposed to the old Romer-Gs) have centered stems for attaching the keycaps, and therefore the LED is displaced to the top of the switch, which is why it only shines through to the primary legend symbols. There are advantages to this, as switch design is more uniform across their product line, and it allows for keycaps to be replaced more easily. On Romer-G switches all the symbols are lit up because the LED is centered under the keycap.

@@BrickBazooka you win, you lose some. You will eventually memorize where all the keys are if you type enough. I will much rather have a durable switch/keycap design than having better backlight. The number of times my keys would just come off during game or get lodged between the switches is incredibly high. I would straight up not be able to move backwards, check the scoreboard, or crouch.

I got this keyboard for 189 AUD off pccasegear, and I love it. The secondary lighting issue isnt a problem for me as I've memorised where they are. Plus I use them mostly when my lights are on. I used a cougar vantar MX beforehand and this keyboard suits me way better. I almost like the fact that there is no light for secondary keys as it makes the keyboard almost look "cleaner"
It just goes to show that all of this stuff goes to personal preference

The G810 is one of the few mechanical keyboard that is virtually color bleed free due to it's Rommer G switch design. The LED is completely encapsulated inside the key. Not exposed at all, but there is not clicking version of it, yet.
And the media volume key still not tactile in all Logitech keyboard which give you a cheap sensation.

At this price point I would not be able to make a compromise with anything. That lighting issue is a deal braker for me as well! What were they thinking? I've been on the hunt for a low profile mechanical keyboard for almost six months and I still haven't found one that suits my needs. Eventhough there are so many manufacturers and models out there, there is just no versatility. I game a bit and I also type quite often. I would love to get my hands on a full size low profile keyboard that has good build quality, rgb backlights (all symbols should be visible ofc), braided cable, standard indicator lighst for num caps and scroll locks (lots of logitech models are missing those), no macros (especially on the left side making a keyboard longer than it needs to be), no usb passtrhroughs (I just don't find them useful), and most importantly I want a layout that has the big enter key and the long left shift key - a hybrid between ANSI and UK layout. I would gladly pay >300$ for a keyboard like that!!! And I am positive I am not the only one! Sadly I can't find such!

I guess keyboard preferences are subjective. I love how quiet the keys are. I can type for days on this keyboard without getting tired. Unfortunately for me my hands are too big for the keyboard and I end up fat-fingering the one and apostrophe keys more often then I care to admit. Same with my shift and caps key. I'll try this keyboard for another week to see if I'll get used to it but I may change this out for the G910. Man I do like the quiet keys though.

I just got this keyboard yesterday and I really like it. I'd probably like it more if it weren't for the "G buttons" on the side that feel a bit awkward but I guess I'll get used to them eventually. I usually orient myself by using F and J so typing isn't that big of an issue but it feels awkward to not have the escape button on the absolute top left.
I love that it's made of metal and the weight makes it stand super firmly on the table. Also, as someone who's only had laptops for the last 12 years, the low profile feels familiar and nice. Pressing the keys feels really "satisfying" (couldn't find a better word for it). Just the right resistance to feel light but still a bit firm.
Is it worth the price though? I'm not sure. I only got it because I purchased another Logitech keyboard a few weeks ago that was defective and I got the price of that one off from this one so it didn't feel as expensive as it would have.

I realized before you had said it that it was the secondary characters that aren't lit. It was easy to notice as I was using my PC in the dark. I concluded that it is a GAMING keyboard so when you look down in the dark, you see the character you need to see. I am really liking this keyboard. I bought it retail for $169.99 + tax in Dec 2022 and for the money, if I want something made a little better designed with a bit more high quality materials, I have to spend $100 more. Very happy for under $200 incl tax.

To be fair, if you're doing something which requires the use of shift-modified characters (text editing), the environment should be lit well enough to see them anyway.
Gaming doesn't care about those secondary characters and office work should be done in a well-lit room.

I did not pay nearly as much as you quoted for the keyboard, and aside from that oversight, I really like this keyboard (here we go, it's dark, and the opening parens is not visilbe; its secondary to the number 9). BTW, I have the clicky version, which is not that loud actdually.

One additional problem. The symbols that are "see through" actually do NOT hold a transparent clear plastic, it is instead some sort of light blue tone. Big issue? YES, I want my standard setting to hold clear white and you would expect to achieve this using RGB code 255, 255, 255, BUT as mentioned, this will turn the symbols on the buttons light blue. this means that the Logitech G HUB software, where you can pick a colour and assign it to one or several keys, is way off the result you will get on they keys IRL. The closest I have come to a clear white is RGB 249, 198, 203 which according to any colour scale should result a light red. Instead, it seems to compensate for some of the blue tone in the keys and result in in a half decent white colour (with a blueish tint). catastrophic design ! If you like white keys or generally want to set a true RGB code, you have lost before you have begun. If setting accurate colours is important for you, this keyboard scores 1 of 5...
In all, I rate this keyboard 3 of 5, a rotten score in relation to the price. Find another keyboard...

I noticed this same problem on my G910 Orion. A disappointment for sure, especially since the G815 is $200 (vs the sub $100 I paid on the G910). Not having the secondary key functions backlit is also a bit disappointing, even if it isn't really necessary to have them lit up. I just missed out on a sale, GameStop had it for $130 but of course they're all out now, and I definitely don't want to pay $200 for it (or even the $180 price on Amazon right now)

GREAT POINT on the keys that are not fully illuminated. I'm waiting for this problem to be fixed before buying any more of these. I have a G915 and have the same stupid problem for such a high end keyboard. Logitech - Please try again.

Personally, it doesn't bother me that the secondary keys aren't lighted. As a product designer I can tell you their decision making on lighting only the primary key was probably to not overload it visually and maintain findability and even consistency for those main keys. However, it is worth investigating if there is a considerable amount of people who'd want them lighted. I can imagine a compromise of making the secondary keys a bit darker with less translucency. Question is if production allows such a change and if it's worth to make it.

This is the perfect keyboard TO ME. Will not like going back to any other keyboard. Only thing I don't like is that the color on the memory buttons is always yellow and you cant change it. If youve been typing for years, the secondary keys not showing isn't a problem at all, but I can see why that would put someone off.

I don't think its that great - secondary symbols are not backlit, which sucks not only when using it in the dark, but any time when you have the lighting on, because the lit bits make the unlit bits even less visible.

I like this keyboard overall, but he's right about the 2ndary symbols not lighting up. I mean, on the non mechanical G213 also made by logitech they light up, but not the mechanical more upmarket G815? That's plain weird. If they can afford to make more sophisticated mechanical keyboards, certainly they can expand their illumination to include the 2ndary symbols, can't they?

I just bought this keyboard from Best Buy, while I was gaming I decided to make a macro and could not see the characters below the numbered keys, in addition the number pad echoed the same configuration. I navigated through the lighting sequences confident I would find a way to illuminate the additional characters. I wished I'd read this review before making this purchase. For this reason I would not recommend nor would I buy in retrospect. Shame on Logitech!!!! Great review btw, thanks for the great information.

Just picked up one Thursday for $176.99 at Bestbuy. I love it. I’m a IT Deployment Team member and gamer at night. I’ve been looking for a sleek low profile and it’s quality is very well designed. All my lights function and no issues. I recommend it if you’re a true computer end-user instead of these Instagram wannabe techies that just buy gear to show off their new trendy hobby for the time being. I’ve had the wired Logitech G mouse for awhile now since 2016 I just like Logitech quality it lasts.
