I got the linear version yesterday. It wasn't as easy to get a hold of compared to clicky and tactile, but as a gamer that enjoys immersive games, I don't like the clicky sounds, it's distracting. The linear is rather quiet when not panic pressing buttons, so it's good for me. Still going to make some sound when typing though. The keys feel buttery smooth, without being "mushy". The keys don't really need an actuation point, since they're relatively short presses, being so low profile, so that's another plus for linear. If tactile feedback and clicky sounds is important to you; do not get the linear. The linear is much more subtle in style, and perhaps some may even call it boring, since most would expect a clicky tactile feeling to mechanical keyboards. I don't enjoy the loud bravado of typical mechanical keyboards, and I always turn the light effects to static, at the most dimmest option, since bright flashy lights distracts from the game.
I feel good about this purchase, only because I really wanted a low profile keyboard, it's essential for me to avoid wrist pain. If you can handle taller keyboards, then I don't see why you would pay such a large amount of cash for this. You'd have cheaper options elsewhere. Linear would also be a good idea if you're used to membrane keyboards, since the feeling is more familiar. Finally, these macro keys on the left side of the keyboard will definitely trick you. Your default WASD position will be confused when you put your little finger on the G5 macro key, thinking it's actually CTRL. You will have to get used to this. In the meanwhile, while you're getting accustomed, assign the G5 macro key to function as a CTRL key in the G HUB software. That may help.
I am not a gamer but am a production typist (transcription) and a graphic designer (book design), so I do a lot of straight typing. I purchased the clicky version (via Amazon) but have such a light typing touch, I kept losing my caps and spaces for not pressing long/hard enough. But I really liked the keyboard! So I returned it and got the linear version, and life is sweet! I solved the G-keys at left problem (I read the tip elsewhere, not my ideas) by using the G-Hub (available online) software to program the G1 as Escape, the G5 as Control, and also programmed the G3 as Calculator since there's no dedicated calculator key on this keyboard. I am gradually getting used to those five G keys running down the side and am reaching for them less and less, but if I overreach for Control or Escape, at least I have the same functions programmed in and still am not stopped in my tracks while typing. I am so thrilled with the touch and responsiveness of this keyboard -- and even before the clicky one I returned, I had tried a Ducky One 2 with brown (tactile) switches, and I returned it as well because the keys themselves rode so high, I kept tripping over them. I went looking specifically for a low-profile mechanical keyboard, and the G815 is what I found. Great find! The only things -- two -- that I can think of that would make it better is if 1) the G-keys were down the right side instead of the left (more out of the way but still available); and 2) if the second characters on the key caps were lit up like the upper characters are. Just wanted to share this info in case anyone is still wondering about these items.
Thanks ! That’s great feedback
very nice review! you need more subs man this is very well edited and well reviewed! earned a sub!
Just a small tip for people who are suffering from what is talked about at 3:45
You can bind CTRL to G5 and Escape to G1 to mitigate those problems, kind of a workaround, yes.
Agreed, I have the G815 in clicky as well and absolutely love it. Great review :)
Thanks for the good and honnest review mate
I've used many many different boards with different switches, but ever since I got this board my hunt is officially over. I absolutely love typing on this keyboard, it's smooth, fast and feels great. Thank you Logitech! :)
I got a tactile version of that just yesterday. It's simply incredible. You will not find a better keyboard for just 100bucks, it's a steal. The only thing that's missing is having the secondary key inputs (like % ' ? =) also light up with the RGB.
I've bought the G915 few months ago. My favourite keyboard by far!! Clicky all the way!
Those macro keys were annoying at first, but can get used to it after a while.
Yeah I’m sure I will discover a use for it !
as a pc gamer and aspiring writer, I have the the G815 with the gl clicky and while I've only had it for a little over a week, I absolutely love it.
Oh wow, your comments are spot on! I recently got G613 (wireless for aesthetics). I saw this keyboard and badly wanted the volume scroll wheel and macro keys complaints are spot on. Do the media keys work with you given Chrome aggressively takes over this on windows?
seems to work, but also depends if you let apps exclusively use sound drivers.
Btw, one reason to want the wireless one is that you can sync it to 1 computer through lightspeed and another through bluetooth. Usually not worth the extra money, but for me it's really nice to be able to swap between personal computer and work laptop without needing a usb switch
good info nice Review made me buy it. sub
Awesome, thank you!
Can you change the keyboard colors at all just using the keys (not the software)? Like preset patterns?
awesome video, loved the review. In your opinion what would you choose between this and cooler master sk650?
Low profile is the way, so both these keyboards will do well, I would suggest picking the switch type you prefer,
Nice review. I just bought one today for NZ$279
I am still using the Logitech keyboard that I won in your giveaway. Love the sleek look on this one.
I know you said this 3 years ago, still, congrats!
@@theswedishcommentor still going strong mate
Got mine. I use it for work. I never enjoyed working this much 😄
Got it for $115 US. Amazing deal at that price.
I got this for 80 bucks on sale, excellent purchase
Just received an email by Logitech stating they’ll be sending the G815 out as a replacement for a G810 that’s started double-typing letters. Cannot fault their service. Just hope these switches last longer than the Romer-G.
my keyboard switch under the 'a' keycap broke after using the keyboard for 2 months... i didnt spill anything too
I love my G815. The only thing I don't like about it is the 60hz LED flicker/strobing. The flicker is brutal for me, but if I turn off the lighting, I can't read the keys. I've seen plenty of RGB lighting that doesn't have the flicker/strobing, it surprised me that a keyboard this expensive exhibited this behavior. But other than that, I love this keyboard.
Oh interesting i havent noticed that, maybe im not affected by it
@@TechManPat It's like most holiday LED lights. Some people really notice it and others don't notice it at all.
The way to see it the most easily is to dart your eyes back and forth. Instead of seeing the afterimage of lines (from when you dart your eyes back and forth), they'll be dashes. The white caps lock and number lock lights don't flicker/strobe--so the afterimage of those will be lines.
Biggest dealbreaker to me is that the symbols !"§$%&/()=? aren't backlit.
I don't think most gaming keyboard have that
how is typing experiencing compare to Hyperx alloy elite rgb?
I bought this keyboard BECAUSE of those 4 macro keys. I'm a programmer, and appreciate a low profile premium typing feel. Those macro keys are mandatory for productivity.
Unlike you I use the macro keys a lot so I am very happy they included these. Initially I wanted to buy the Corsair k95 platinum because it also had the macro keys on the left side BUT unfortunately it has full size key's and not low profile. Then I was going to buy the Corsair mk2 low profile keyboard that has low profile key's but unfortunately has no macro key's on the left side so thank God that Logitech answered my prayers for bringing out this gorgeous looking sexy keyboard which not only has the macro key's on the left but also it has low profile key's and it's lighting is the best because only the characters on the key's are lit unlike other rgb keyboards where the rgb lighting is coming from under the key's also it's bloody solidily built so excellent quality and durability.
On macros "I'm used to". That's the thing, I was the same until around 12y ago. Once you get used to it after a few weeks, there's no going back. Macros for games? Sure cool, but for productivity, godsend. Won't buy any keyboard again without dedicated macro keys.
and i can see logitech is still the only company who knows how to put a on/off key for the win key on their boards :)
I'm a typist and find a noisy keyboard a real pain in the A..... I like the quiet.
Haha, enter G110 with 2 rows of G-keys. Took me almost 3 weeks to get used to, ahhh good times.
I'm South African and I know how people say the SA accent and Aussie accent are similar but at times I kept asking myself if you relocated.
i have a clicky keyboard now but im gonna get the tactile G815
My keyboard has a mind of its own. I have no idea how to shut of whatever the fuck macro is screwing up everything. No macros are set but this keyboard just does what it wants.
Its $100-130 already, in thailand at least.
I keep trying to find out about the function of software and no one wants to talk about it, so, I think it must be scary, or no one knows how to use it.
there isn't much function beyond macros
I just bought this one. - now stroke my ego:D
I had to disable the g keys also lol. They’re annoying
I got 815 linear, the serial number starts from 1920MR - the keyboard is not detected by LGHub, it goes dark immediately.
Check power ram make sure it’s connected directly into the pc
@@TechManPat Im softwere engineer, I know how to connect keyboard to PC ;) Fun fact - controlling software g810-led from linux can control the lighting. Windows LGHUB is not detecting the keyboard. this sucks big time and shows how poor quality software comes from logitech.
xenon2 haha you would be surprised how many people are not software engineers and don’t know how to plug a keyboard in :) I would say test it on another pc and see what happens but I’m sure you know what to do; I found some of the latest updates a bit buggy too recently as last month
Where's the typing test?!?! I would've liked it if you replaced one of the B-roll shots with a typing test.
the constant accent change can break someones mind, if on lsd lol
This logitech keyboard other options besides the clicky
I like that keyboard but I can't beat the Logitech G910
Why
Nice review. 10/10 content have +1 sub from me lol. Btw i like G hub
bring back k95 corsair 18 g key /////////////////////for the win
That's what I have now, am replacing it with the G815.
Al-u-min-i-um
maybe
I'll stick with my Corsair K95 Platinum RGB with Cherry MX brown switches.
I bet people around you must be driven mad by that noise while you don't even hear it when you're working away on it. Bit stupid in my opinion, just to annoy other people.
Haha yes... well... thats life
