On Memorial Day weekend 2016, I drove from New Hampshire to NC to hike Mt. Mitchell (and Mt. Craig), and I was very pleased with the park and the area! The whole place was clean and well maintained, and the staff and fellow hikers, walkers, tourists, and nature lovers were all really nice. I would definitely come back here again.

I’m really not lying when i say this
Elisha Mitchell was my 6th great uncle. They named the mountain after him after he fell to his death while doing research.

I was just there today. Unfortunately, I had to turn around at mount Mitchell and go all the way back to grandfather mountain. The parkway was closed to Asheville. Also. Grandfather mountain can be expensive if you have a car load of people. Access is $20 per person if you plan on visiting there.
