    Great honest review..thanks!...i had to ditch my ddj 400's cause they dont have a deck swap. If they would put a deck swap on the 400 it would have been perfect. I use this one now with virtual DJ and the nice part about the performance pads is that both decks are right together and dont have to move your hand to far when mixing.

    Being a mobile DJ for more than 20 years now, I was always kind of bummed I never really learned how to scratch on the good old Technics 1200's back in the days. Nowadays, an actual "battle" setup consisting of 2 1200's and a battle-style mixer is extremely expensive and not something I would spend my hard-earned money on. This little controller, on the other hand, is the perfect gateway into the world of scratching that I've always kind of missed out on. I think I might be getting this and finally learn the supreme discipline of DJing!

    Alright, this controller seems pretty cool, but I think I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the scratch bank. Specifically, how does that differ from the sampler, beyond it's effectively loading the sample onto the deck? Though I guess that makes sense so you can actually scratch on said sample.

The slider control on the left and right move the opposite side which is not normal and it doesn't keep sync with the sync button. I've updated it successfully it still has issue. I'm wondering if I should return it and buy one of these rev1's? I don't play hip-hop and I don't scratch so I'm wondering how this would serve me as a house dj ? I think the reason they don’t put a 1/4 inch jack is due to this controller being usb powered usually 5volts. Externally powered controllers use upwards of 12 volts. High end headphone need power to drive them, if they are connected to a usb powered controller the master output gets distorted when you open the cue volume while using a high end headphone 🙄

    • @MonsieurArlequin
      @MonsieurArlequin Před 2 lety +6

      I think it's to let more people have access to being able to produce scratch sounds without the need to spend hours learning to scratch. Think of it as another FX rather than a technique.
      I feel like it's something that only beginners would find useful or rather lead them down the path to learn to scratch. It's like learning to ride a bike with training wheels, you aren't going to learn much if you constantly fall.

      - well, if u get the 400 you get the Rekordbox pro license for free, basically 100$ worth
      - if you get the Rev1, you're gonna have to start from scratch with Serato Lite
      so if you're looking to save on software and don't want to switch softwares, go for the 400. you get the hardware upgrade plus free Rekordbox software upgrade
      but like you said you're more into Hiphop music so the Rev1 is good because
      - Bigger jogwheels for scratching, scratch tracking function can help you practice your cuts
      - Battle style mixer layout, paddle effects work better for quick hiphop routines imo
      - Decks mimic turntables in battle position so if you're planning on eventually upgrading to vinyl turntables + battle mixer setup this is definitely the way to go
      im also choosing between the 400 and the rev1 and am leaning towards rev1 also because of the factors mentioned above

That doesn't make sense plenty of DJs Play house with two turntables and a mixer... as a beginner he would just get used to the layout of whatever he gets... there isn't any kind of handicapped when it comes to using one style layout versus the other, especially when it comes to these entry-level type of controllers ! where things start to change is when four-channel mixer is involved, that's why the layout is different versus a battle mixer.. not so sure need to worry about getting the layout of a Pioneer 4-channel mixer memorized as a beginner...

  • @djchill1765
    @djchill1765 Před rokem

    I think the DJJ SB2 is still the best controller in this price range, cheaper and better than the rev 1. I don't like using the word beginner, as i've been on vinyl since the 70's and rocking big venues since the 80's. plus i can rock a party on any controller and rocked festivals on the sb2. Comparing the rev 1 ans sb2, I prefer the feel scratching on the sb2 and the pointless lines on the rev 1 not only don't do anything, they hinder you as I come from vinyl with stickers on. The tracking i find gimmicky. Djing should feel natural and it doesn't feel natural to scratch without holding a cross fader and can only scratch on first part of sample, useless to me. Plus scratch banks is more confusing, making track playing disappear from view and scratch sound doesn't start on cue point using scratch bank. Pitch sliders on rev 1 not as smooth as on the sb2 and where has the headphones mix knob gone!! not on the rev 1, i use it constantly on the sb2, plus having that knob to be able to midi map, to say curve etc is vital to me! on the rev 1 you would have to go into settings and use the trackpad! useless... i would use it on the fly constantly on the sb2 and what's with the mic level on the back of the controller! and doesn't say mic level on top to show where it is like on the sb2, imagine getting feedback and feeling around the back looking for the knob. Making that knob mini mappable would have been more useful. Plus Levels go into the red if trim is at 50% or more, even with all other volumes down, surely that can't be an accurate reading? Why have the trims to be able to go to 100%? I could go on and on but no headphone mix knob means i can not perform to my best with this thing like i could on the sb2. The rev 1 is going back to the shop. I would swap all the scratch gimmicks for a simple extra mappable knob. Everywhere I go now people have real expensive controllers, yet don't seem to rock a crowd like i do on the SB2. Plus sb2 is the right size to fit in a plane overhead locker, the rev 1 is a little too long to be allowed. I used the same technic turntables for 40 years and only got the sb2 as i had a few gigs lined up around the world, only reason i bought the thing but then never looked back for djing abroad plus was shocked how responsive this little sb2 was. Unfortunately now the play button and the deck freezes, needing to unplug usb cable, a few have this issue on the sb2 with the play button, plus it came out in 2015 if i remember right. I got the rev1as i thought it would be tons better in 2022 but only real advantage i find over the sb2 is having 8 hot cue pads

      The "best" is purely subjective to your individual use case. I have the SB3 and Rev1 and they both have uses for me. I spin house/edm as well has hip hop.

    Beginners who want to play at clubs or on pro gear some day should stick to the ddj-400, this Rev1 does not have a traditional cdj layout unlike the ddj-400 and its bigger brothers.

    Sorry, I don't buy the Hype. Let's wait for an HONEST review, NOT from all those big online DJ influencers who's been sent the new gear back in December. Hope marketing will not win with common sense. Absolute bottom line is that I am yet to fine a person on the dance floor who wants to listen to screatching to dance to.

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  Před 2 lety +9

      Just because we are sent the equipment to review ahead of launch doesn't mean our views have been influenced in anyway. We're sure Pioneer DJ didn't want us pointing out the wobbling pitch faders for example. Our main priority in any review is to inform our audience and our students about the latest products, it's always been that way and will remain that way.
