Highly doubt he gave a fuck. And now cannabis isn’t even banned. By the time Riddle joined the WWE he had been out of the UFC for five years and was a long gone afterthought. And it’s not like he cared about weed but was sick of the dude not being able to manage his shit so he could pass the drug tests and then start smoking again. If he gave any kind of a damn I think it’d be him laughing at how Riddle is such a detriment to himself that he found a way to ruin his spot in the WWE which was right around the closing of the merger.

It wasn’t some big brain strat from Ladd though. It was 2 pounds over on a non title bout and basically doubled her show money on top of Ladd’s fine. She missed weight 3x in the ufc. It wasn’t like some attempt to be heavier and take advantage of a smaller opponent. She would end up being fired too. Sure Smith has the right to turn a fight down at catchweight. But employment at will also allows the ufc to end the contract. It’s not crazy to see why even without factoring in her attempt to pseudo union - can you name a single fighter that’s turned down a catch weight at two pounds or less? I can’t
@@CYMotorsport Everything you said is true, and I actually think Smith could have beaten Ladd. That said, it still seems fishy to me. Can you honestly say that the UFC, or Dana White specifically, really let her go because of not accepting a fight when her opponent comes in over weight? Or was it because of her stance on fighter pay, and they were just looking for an excuse? The whole concept of "at-will" employment and the "independent contractor" status speaks to why they need a union in the first place.

Lets not forget Smith was 4-3, was only in the ufc for 3 years and almost never finishes her opponents. Can't talk badly about your employer after only being there for a short period while having a record that would get you cut in any men's division and having the audacity to turn down fights which ruins cards. Sounds like a bunch of headaches for someone who's not a needle mover or even a world beater.

Everything she said was true: fighters put their body and their lives on the line, and they deserve to be treated as such. What she was asking was perfectly reasonable. The irony is that if the UFC keeps pushing like this, they will drive fighters away, and potential fighters will go to other sports entirely.
They did Overeem dirty, sure he wasn't winning fights like he used to, but it's not like he wasn't competitive. Plus he's a fan favorite, just from a marketing point of view he still had some gas left in the tank, he could still headline fight night cards.

Either way, I see the point you're making about when he was released in 2021 and was 4-2 of his last six. I think at that point in his career, it was problematic to keep a guy like Reem under contract. A guy that is relatively higher end pay on the UFC pay spectrum and standards, who happens to be aging, lost his title shots, and was still winning fights occasionally. They could no longer push him towards the title shot, and he was a risky guy to keep around because he might keep beating 40 percent of the HW roster while also taking losses and no shot at another title. They cut him for the same reasons they cut Yoel Romero, a guy who couldn't seem to win the title but would probably have prevented many of the other fighters from reaching it.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Colby cut in the next 3-5 years for similar reasons if he doesn't secure the title in his next fight. Dana doesn't like keeping title-shot gatekeepers that can't win the belt. Max's job is only secured because he was reigning and defending champion at one point and continues to dominate. It's still shitty for a promotional perspective though because Max keeps dominating new contenders. lol

you guys should do videos about the fighters like "everything you need to know about this fighter" telling about the life , history, fights etc. in the same way donut media those with cars.
I always find it weird when they cut big names coming off wins. A big one for me was when they let Sage Northcut go. He was still so young, and his potential was so high. He was even coming off some wins also. If they didn’t let him go he never would’ve broke his face, and he might’ve been a top guy right now.
I believe the strategy with Northcutt was that Dana thought he made a mistake tossing Sage in with the wolves too early, and he was better off having him crushing tin cans over at another promotion and slowly work his way up, and come back later when he had more experience and was a safer bet for the UFC, bringing views from and promotion with him.
But instead of cans, he fought an ex champ and nearly died. If he had racked up some Ws with some good views he’d definitely be coming back to the UFC.
Probably the worst managed potential ever.
