MODERN DIY Electric Fireplace Wall--With Removeable Access Cubbies!

  • In this video, I'm sharing how I built this MODERN DIY Electric Fireplace Wall with removeable cubbies to access inside.
    Our new house had zero character when we moved in a few month ago and I'm on a mission to add some unique and useful additions to every room as I can.
    Today's project features one of these "additions" I added to our living room. This recessed fireplace wall anchors the space and the removeable cubbies allow access to behind the wall if we need to adjust cables, plug or unplug or go back later and add another outlet.

    What a fantastic idea, Shara. You have really completely reinvented this space. The entire project just oozes creativity, but the 'removable cubby' feature is just "Outa Sight" as I used to say during the days of my misspent youth. This feature also answers the question raised so often on The True Crime channel. "Where do you hide the body?"
    Thanks for sharing this video.

      @@rahmawatidewi8047 …. Most units have an electric heater built in similar to a ceramic space heater. They usually a low and high heat setting and have a fan to help circulate the heat. The flames and sound you hear are for aesthetics and typically are very realistic.

    Wow, this is another great idea, and you present it so well that I think I can do this. I've only seen electric fireplaces with decorative wooden surrounds built onto them. Where did you get that one - did you take the guts out of one?
    Having just bought a house, each video of yours I see, I say, "wow I want to do that." I just wish I had a tenth of your energy.
    Thumbs way up on this vid and thanks for posting!

      Haha I was going to tell you I had linked it 😊 we were hesitant-so many options out there at all kinds of prices. This was one of the cheaper options we found but we love it (this isn’t sponsored). I’d definitely buy this one again…the colors and flames look really realistic. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and like the projects 💕 congrats on your new home! Part of the fun of home ownership is the journey to make it your own. Have fun!

    The only thing different I would have done was create a recessed for the TV.

    Looks great! I'm about to design and build something like yours and I have a similar room layout as you. Did you center the fireplace on the wall or the width of the entire room?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Před rokem

      It’s not really centered on either. I lined it up to where it would perfectly fit between the studs that were there already in the wall so I could screw the frame into them. It’s closer to centered on the wall vs the room, but it’s not exact.

    That turned out GORGEOUS!!!! Now you've got me thinking of doing something similar in my family room. I would never use the heat for the fireplace (living in AZ!) so would a regular outlet be sufficient for the flames?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Před 2 lety

      Thank you!! Yes, the existing outlet is no problem for just the lights. And it could probably run the heat too, but the circuit would be maxed. So to be safe, we are going to run a separate circuit for it (eventually-we have several to run at once so we are waiting to do them all at the same time to minimize the time spent in the attic ha!). But anyway, yes, the lights would run fine on the existing outlet. And if you don’t plan to ever use the heat, you can find electric fireplaces without the heat function that are usually significantly cheaper…so you may want to check that out before buying!

    @Shara~ Love this design and how you aren't afraid to just tackle a project! You mentioned that you used Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black paint for the fireplace (gorgeous!), do you happen to recall which brand and specific color of white paint you have on your walls? It looks great on camera ... just the perfect amount bright yet easy on the eyes. I have been trying to pin down that sweet spot in various shades/brands of white paint....it's so much harder than I imagined! I would love to know what is on your walls if you have the information! Thanks ~Christy
