- Or whatever other title you prefer. Getting to be rather an old new song now. Still officially unreleased.

Song: Gillian Welch
c.1956 Gibson J-50: GW
1935 Epiphone Olympic: DR
I love this song, can relate to it so much. Thank you Gillian and Dave for making such beautiful music.
This is one of the most beautiful things i have ever heard in my seven decades on this mortal coil…
Best match in history of music. Amen.
I've seen them twice, first time on Sept. 10, 2001. It was a teeny tiny little venue in Encinitas, California, I don't think there were 50 people there (and it was sold out). I had caught the tail end of "Orphan Girl" on television, some kind of "unplugged" show or other, awhile before that & had no idea who they were, & when I figured that out I went to the first concert I could find. The concert was [insert superlatives, any attempt on my part will sound forced]. I was utterly blown away by the fineness, the exquisitely detailed performance, which, seeing this, they have now honed even finer.
During the intermission I had an eerie experience in the bathroom, where a very old woman with Alzheimer's became frozen while watching herself in the mirror, literally catatonic, & I became frozen watching her, until her caregiver came & broke the spell. The next morning 911 happened, I was standing at the sink watching CNN & there was Maria Bartiromo trying to commentate from under some stairs in what looked like a war zone.
So I think of that concert as the end of some kind of innocence; the whole experience was a strange, cryptic metaphor that I still think about to this day.
For me, this is a perfect song. Beautiful and deeply emotive. I'm such a big fan of these two.....
What a Sad Song , It makes me feel like crying, very personal
Achingly beautiful.Shivers and tears inducing
Powerfully delicate.
a very hard song to listen to in many ways. Its heartbreaking sadness and cutting lyrics beautifully encapsulate the pain of a once loving relationship in its death throes.
When I see the number of views on their perfect performances, I'm torn between being mad that it's not in the 10s of millions, as it should be, and feeling like I'm somehow more discerning and privileged because so many people are dumb and have poor taste. *sigh* I realize other people's bad taste and stupidity don't really make me any better...and I don't think David and Gillian's music would be improved by being vastly more popular. It is what it is, they're doing pretty well and their fans don't just like them, we love them. Which, for an artist, has to be pretty nice.
Kerth Gersen I do understand what you mean. It’s in it’s most organic form here. Too much popularity and commercialism will somewhat kill it. Love the song.
I can listen to her sing and him play guitar non stop!
Love this song so pure and honest hypnotising beautiful
SIETE STRAORDINARIE CON LE VOSTRE VOCI E CON LA VOSTRE NOTE CALMATE LE MIE TEMPESTE NEL CUORE ..THANKS
The show This Is Us should create it’s own soundtrack. This is so beautiful.
Tonight's This Is Us brought me here. Thank you!
saw this live in manchester UK a few years back . blew me away.
+Will Kearney Lucky you.
Gillian and David are great artists on their own...together they are as sublime as it gets.
That’s a really pretty chord progression ❤
God damn that's great.
It’s not a “live”recording. It wouldn’t be so quiet, you’d hear air.
In other words, it wouldn’t sound like a “studio recording.” Even if it was recorded directly from the “board’” it wouldn’t sound so “CD” perfect. Enjoy this. These two are a gift to humanity.
BBC engineering.
this is becoming one of my favorites. deep.
incredible...
Overwhelming talent.
fucking unbelievable.
man oh man....so wunderschoen.
Just beautiful....
Yet another beautiful haunting song of Gillian. Can't wait to hear more! I'm desperately waiting for a new CD by one of my favourite singer!!
excellent
"It was seven years on the Burma shore, with Gatling guns and paint. Working the lowlands door-to-door, like a latter day saint." It bugs me that I can't make sense of this. Any ideas?
Sounds like colonial warfare in SE Asia to me.
Purrrrrrrfect
saw these two last night where Gillian introduced the song by saying it was finally going to be recorded and will be on the new album out in June. can't wait!
Just wanted to thank you two for all the great music...this song is un-believable..
Immaculate
4 people don't know what "disabused" means, & it's easier to hit "thumbs down" than it is to look it up.
Cannot wait to hear what else is going to be on Gil's next album. This is great stuff.
most exellent...
Beautiful......most beautiful. t
Thanks to you for posting and most of all gorgeous Pauline for telling me.
Melodic and super cool
@dss1956 I couldn't agree more. Beautiful.
Now released, I hear. About time. :)
I recently read that this song will probably be on the new album due out on June 28 and I hope it's true. The album is called "The Harrow and The Harvest".
