I would’ve loved to see more of these on the road. Not a Busa but it actually has more purpose than the Busa because it doesn’t have a identity crisis. It’s a touring bike that has some balls

    I have two ZZR1100's - D3 & D7 and two ZZR1200's - both C1H. When I want fun, I choose a 12, when I want distance, I choose a 12. When it's raining, I choose a 12...much, much better bike than this guy thinks.

Sport-tourers muscle bikes, as I call them +1000cc models, when buying used the first thing you should do is to get an upgrade with improved suspension kit front (springs) and rear (shock) there are many brands and models to choose from, is the best investment you will do trust me on this one, these engines will last forever they are build tough to do a lot of kms/miles to it for many great years, do a good maintenance, keep them clean and you will have a bike for life, I started with a ZX10 '89, later ZZR1100 '92 and now I got Honda's X11 '01 and CBR1100XX Blackbird both fuel injection PGM-F1 units. Safe riding mates.

this video is interesting. at the moment in which it was shot, probably the line of the ZZR1200 could have appeared "old" and "ugly", .... today, however, at least me, I think it is one of the most fascinating "YOUNG TIMER". with the ZZR 1200, in my opinion, KAWASAKI has made a masterpiece that will last over time !!!

Had my ZZr1200 2 years now. Can't fault it as a sensible everyday bike. Goes like stink when the mind takes me and conditions. Economical 50 mpg. Cheap on tyres, my MPS 3's have done 10k miles and will probably go another 5k.Wind just clips the side of helmet so some noise but fairing good even in heavy rain. Mirrors vibration free. Not too sporty ride position. Bit of wrist ache on slow journeys, but fine when tanking it. Slick gearbox. The only thing I can fault is the rubbish thin gold paint on wheels and some road noise up from front wheel (probably tyre wear). So they need to come off next tyre change and powder coat. And above 100 the front gets a bit light as if fairing acting like a wing.

My only problem with bike, the ignition switch failed.
I bought after market and still didn't work.

  • @019208237

If they didn't have such ugly rear and front lights i wouldn't of hesitated buying one but i decided to go for a very low mileage mint condition ZZR 1100 D2 instead and i'm not disappointed it is a BEAST. its a derestricted full power version and boy does it shift. i have owned a GSXR 750 srad before it and the ZZR 1100 kicks its ass on the straights and even R1's can't leave me behind, in fact they give me looks of disbelief that something so old can give them a run for there money. if i tuned mine up a little i could blow them away but its plenty quick enough for me in stock mode. if you haven't had the chance to ride a ZZR 1100 (unrestricted full power version) give it a go just once in your life and you'll never forget it. it gives me a HUGE buzz and extra wide grin every time i ride it. it turns heads too.

Does anyone know of any another modern day bikes that are similar to this? Most sport touring bikes I see now seem bigger/taller whereas this one was just right for me. Thank you in advance.

I agree with reviewer. I can't stand the looks of head and tail light assembly. 11 looked so much better. 1400 looks much better. But I don't think it's bad bike. Haven't ridden one, but 11's were absolutely gorgeous bikes. Nice power throughput and very comfortable bike to ride, albeit the bit fiddly gearboxes.

"Ugly" what? The 1200's dual headlights are miles in front of the 1100. Furthermore, if we want good looks we can put artwork on the wall; any biker worth their salt will rate practicality far above looks.

Sorry mates, saying "zed-zed" just sounds stupid as opposed to "zee-zee". My brother in law talks like that trying to impress the rest of us yanks about how worldly educated he is. He always sounds like an idiot! When I learned the alphabet I would've felt pretty dumb saying " ... double-U, ex, why, zed"! And who says the 1100 is ugly? I have a ZX-11 and even today I still think it's one of the sexiest crotch rockets ever made, especially compared to the overdone, angular crap we see today (because they've pretty much used up all the shapes available any more)! The 1200 isn't ugly but I do like the lines of the 1100 better.
