I was shopping the other day and wasn't sure that batting was thick enough. May I ask what the thickness on the packaging said . I found the thickest to only by 3mm.

I'd save time and money using moving blankets. Unless there's a rule against it in the ACW.

I would suggest using a heavy duty linen with wool batting for the padding.
For THIS project, I went with a cotton canvas. But that was because we had a lot of cotton canvas lying around from a separate project.
