It doesn't happen too often, but my favorite song won Eurovision. Portugal's been in the contest since 1964 with their best result only being a 6th place in 1996 until Salvador won in 2017. In my opinion, the best winner of the 2010s and in the top 10 best ESC winners of all time!

Are you seriously saying that he is not a nice person just because of his appearance/body language? I mean, you are different and I do not judge you for that. Seriously, I'm very proud to be Portuguese and live in a country that accepts all people. He doesn't think that is better than everyone else. In fact, portuguese artists are very humble and gratefull for what they have.The way we speak, act and even our humor is part of our culture so it can be misinterpreted by foreign people I guess. Oh, and Salvador was sick during that time and even got a heart transplant, so I know we can agree that he was more worried about breathing than he was about pleasing everyone else. I do advise you to make your research before making this videos. Thank you.
I need to add that at the time he was suffering from a heart disease, but still manage to win the Festival!!! Thank you for you review!

my favourite moment (and the best version) was the Salvador/Luisa duet as the winner's reprise in both FdC and Eurovision

I agree with you but I must say it is not a love song. If you read the lyrics and watch Luisa's interview, you will realize Amar Pelos Dois is a song about a sister who will take care of her brother even when he has an illness. It's basically their story 😅 Greetings!

Thank you for this interesting review. Just to say that Salvador is actually a very nice person with a big heart (pun not intended). I met him in Iceland by chance and he offered me a ticket for the concert, which was awesome. He was in a very bad place when he said all those bad things about ESC and other artists. He has grown a lot since then and he recently said that Eurovision gave him everything that he dreamt of. So give him another chance...
Such a beautiful song. So calming. It was surrounded by loud songs in the grand final which made it stand out even more special. In my opinion, Salvador is allowed to call out trashy songs like Toy. There have been many quality songs about female empowerment but Toy is not one.

Funny how the national final (from festival da canção) is still better than this. I saw him live a couple of months ago, he's the real deal. Perfect pitch, fully committed. A bliss.

I met Salvador Sobral and he is extremely humble.he is one of the rare artists who actually does concert for free in parks and other places. He is far to be pretentious

Actually I am portuguese, I get your point here but you really are taking Salvador way too serious. He is actually a joker. Of course he has his opinions that I don't always agree and he makes those statements that sound rude but if you listen to an interview of his, he is really a light spirited guy. He is also joking, and I think not even he takes himself serious when he makes some statements. He is like a teenager with an old soul. So he is always testing the limits like teens do.
By the way, the song is not just a love song... It is the song of the eurovision 2017 and the one that got the highest score ever. It was capable of touching people from all.over europe who didn't have a clue about he was saying. So, the theme is only important to those who understand portuguese. It's something that transcends love itself.

Do you know his story?And it is not a love song.His sister wrote it and it is about two siblings.You should be more informed about who you react before giving your opinion.

Eu tb não gosto muito da personalidade do Salvador, mas, nós Humanos temos dificuldades aceitar a frontalidade e dizer o que nos vai na Alma. O salvador é assim... Diz o que lhe vai na Alma independentemente do que seja ou não, politicamente correcto. O que será pior? Arrogancia ou hipocrisia?
Even though i didn't listen to this very often after he won,it was a deserved winner BUT in my opinion not a deserved record holder.We had other better winners in this decade.
About his personality...i appriciate that he puts ''feeling'' in front of everything else but music is also universal and everyone can express it in own ways so he's wrong in those terms and also for trashing esc which brought him popularity.
So he should just chill.

Hard disagree!
I never really liked this song and I never really wanted to win. Like I appreciate the artistry behind it but it’s really not my genre. And Salvador’s personality really just ruined it further for me. I also never liked the fans who defended this song and Salvador so strongly, to the point where they chastise and threaten anyone who doesn’t agree with their opinion.

For me Estonia 2001 and Latvia 2002 are the two really wtf moments in ESC history. What was Europe thinking? I mean... both countries have awsome songs in their history of participating and both won with two terrible songs.
