    Lyrics
    Doot-Doot
    What's in a name?
    Face on a stage
    Where are you now?
Memory fades, you take a bow
    Here in the dark
    Watching the screen
    Look at them fall
    The final scene
    And we go doot
    Doot doot
    Look at them fall
    Flicker and fade
    Gone are the screams
I put them to bed, now they are dreams
    And we go doot
    Doot doot

The emerging New Wave music with Flock of Seagulls, Strange Advance, The Fixx, Men Without Hats, OMD, Human League, Joy Division, XTC, Freur, and many more. Howard Jones and Nick Kershaw are the ones that stuck in the back of my mind ever since. And indeed, Flock of Seagulls, right after them. Although, my actual infatuation with the music of that era was U.K., when they released their first album in 1978 (with "In the Dead of Night"), followed by their more commercial album "Danger Money". Not comparable to the synth-pop that emerged in the New Wave that had already picked up pace then, but U.K. was quite appealing to me in my early teens years.

@@DaveAndBeth1978 The early eighties were the era of synth-pop in general. I still love the music from Matia Bazar with their hit "Ti Sento" from 1985. It's a CD that I keep playing, regardless its age (nowadays as an mp3 storage, for convenience). Some songs from Kim Wilde remain quite appealing, like "The Touch" from 1984. @Nicoda1st Před 4 lety +7

DaveST songs from those times do that to people! Especially if you’re ear is a little trained to listen to all them weird noises and stuff! I personally listen the first time to this song in the 80’s in my cousins club, and every time i hear it, it brings me back to the exact time and place. But there are other songs that can do that, like songs from Yazoo and similar 80’s groups like OMD ecc. Try listen to Sharp & Numan’s song “Change your Mind”, might give you similar chills, or a song by Mike Oldfield called “Crises”

For lack of a more lengthy summation ( and I resist the temptation to wax loquacious, here): This song, and the moment it captures in time, is PERFECT. Forever sublime, and an indelible stroke in music history; it holds a special place in my heart, that no other memory from those years ever will. ~CC.

Totally agree Ryan, those synth pads are very ethereal and truly lasting......there were other beautiful new wave ballads from the mid 80's that are similar to this song in that they too express a certain sensuality; two that come to mind are Art of Noise 'Moments in Love' and Orchestral Maneouvres in the Dark 'Never Turn Away'.....

In a funny sort of way it's a bit like Mama by Genesis in that the song starts off with a strong drum machine pattern, with that replaced by very loud real drums in the second half of the song.

I remember hearing this song for the first time while driving thinking it was a new OMD song. There was no Shazam back then. I even thought the DJ made a mistake naming the band when the song ended. Needless to say it instantly became one of my favorite songs of all time. It was the best decade in music. Tears for Fears , Ultravox , Icehouse , OMD, Yazoo, depeche mode, Roxy Music, A Ha, Blancmange, a flock of seagulls, The Fixx, Kim Wilde, and many more.

Remember these guys being huge on the live circuit in South Wales in the 80s, they were formed in my hometown of Cardiff and I used to see Rick and Karl out and about in the city centre back in the day... To think, over a decade after this song they had evolved into Underworld and released three of the best albums of the 90s, as well as the generation-defining hit 'Born Slippy'! Incredible! As far detached from 'Born Slippy' as synth-pop and New Wave may seem, you can hear the early hints of Underworld here on this song... Phenomenal talent
