The Lexus grill looks real slick. They have a V6 turbo engine instead of the smaller engine in the LC. Can't justify that price for 70-80k.

      I guess you haven’t seen the LC500

  • @andersberg185
    @andersberg185 Před měsícem +26

The comparison missed on a few points:
The e-KDSS system gives 3 *additional* inches of articulation over the outgoing hydraulic-only KDSS system which already had an articulation advantage over non-KDSS models. I don’t know LC-specific numbers, but with more articulation and better tires, the GX is likely to be quite a bit more capable off-road right off the lot.
Also, e-KDSS does give a ride quality advantage on-road that may not have been addressed or tested. It also tightens cornering which reduces body roll around corners. My 06’ with KDSS always impresses me when cornering at highway speeds - it rides like a go-cart. You won’t feel that difference driving on straight lines or in city driving.
The e-KDSS system is also available on the base Overtrail model which is more comparably priced. The base model loses the massaging seats and 21 speaker system, but that changes the value calculus as the base model is like $8k less expensive.
Lastly, there is some degree of perceived status that comes with Lexus over Toyota. If you care about status (trying to project success/power or to impress the opposite gender) Lexus delivers where Toyota does not.

The LC has front stabilizer disconnect, I am curious along with it if they increased the size of the sway bar to match the GX.

This is hard decision, but I think it will be made more difficult when and if, the GX gets a hybrid powertrain. The price will no doubt go up by 3-5K as well, but so will the fuel economy. Right now I am leaning toward the GX. I am either purchasing a Landcruiser or GX in the near future, so this was an awesome comparison. Waiting on the hybrid GX and maybe a TRD pro version of the Landcruiser, if they ever show up, so we will see.

Considering that most if not close to all Toyota dealerships in the country are adding dealer add ons and/or market adjustments to incoming Land Cruisers, the price difference between both narrows even more. Nationwide, Lexus dealerships are less likely to add on those idiotic fees to incoming GX models.

Compared LC to GX Overtrail, it’s only $2k more for the GX after adding rails, rack. The GX is the best value except regarding mpg. +3000 lbs towing for the GX, even +1000 lbs more compared to the LX (LC 300), with the e-KDSS +5” of wheel travel more than the LC, also the sway bar is locked or not in LC, but GX it can be anything in between, and it’s automatically set depending on conditions, this means sometimes you may want a bit more travel because of bumpy road, but there are still some curves that require more stability, GX gives you a compromise, not LC not the 4Runner; , 33” tires instead of 31” and it has adaptive dampers meaning a much improved ride quality and better control in different conditions like snow, sand, mud: yes the suspension changes depending on the driving mode.
If it weren’t for the extra mpg and premium gas, it would be a no brainer: GX OT is a much better value.

Great video. Thought about this. I think have to wait until BOTH vehicles are a plenty in dealer showrooms. Kick the tires. Test drive both. Curious to see how/if one can build up a LC to make is as close to being as nice as the lexus. Wildcard, 4Runner launch as well. To me personally, that’s an SUV I’d really like to sink my teeth into. I don’t need a big cumbersome SUV. Looking at new 4Runner reviews, if we’re able to build one up super nice and rugged could be a game change all around. Have to wait until all dealers are stocked and ready to unload vehicles first and of course, interest rates have to come down. To buy any of these cars right now w interest rates where they are is just plain nuts.

The GX needs about 75-100 more HP. I think the Sequoia setup would make this untouchable. As is even with comfortable seats and features, it’s just a dog with sub par gas mileage.

Will be replacing a turbo diesel 100 series Landcruiser as the primary family vehicle (note the 100 series will stay in the fam as a keeper for the kids). But at end of the day, Tojo’s are bullet proof, Lexus are “fancy” Toyota’s, so the GX 550 is THE Tojo for those of us who want something a bit fancy!

You cannot compare the LC with anything other than GX Overtrail. All other GX don’t have: rear locker, no e-KDSS thus equivalent of sway bar unlocking in LC, not the same wheels : no off-roading with more than 18” wheels etc.
You are comparing an off-roader LC with an only on road GX. Not same usage.
Same for TX it’s on road only. The LX is the big brother with same off-roading capabilities.
If you are not going off-roading then there is no point getting an LC.

My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV.
Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered.
    Pros:
    * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC.
    * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable.
    *
    Cons:
    * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system.
    * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience.
    * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years.
    * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality.
    * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels.
    * Leather quality across all trims is subpar.
    * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg.
    * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience.
    * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power.
    * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: czcams.com/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/video.html
I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities.
Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed.
It appears that CZcams influencers may be sponsored by Toyota and Lexus, with many Toyota dealers hyping these vehicles on social media to attract buyers.
This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline.
Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology.
At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough.
Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles.
In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase

The LC is an abomination to the LC brand.
GX is the only choice - turbo 6 for the win!
They need to offer a diesel option like in other countries.

How can a truck be considered tough with 4 cylinder? The physics just doesn’t add up.

@@johnmcdonald927yes Toyota dealers are consistently average at best and arrogant. I’ve had both LC and Lexus. Sad because the LC250 with real 3 zone AC and leather is compelling. Drove me to a competitor from an LC200……original owner it was time
