This show is so near and dear to my heart, I'm a high school freshman and this was the show my school did for this year, and it was my first show ever. This man not only has changed my life with this show and music, but he has created a everlasting memory in me and 104 other high school students. 15 of them being high school seniors and this being their last show. This music is art and the whole show is musical art. Now that it's over I feel nothing but an empty gap in my heart that can only be fulfilled by this score and it's music. This show has changed all of our lives and I'm so grateful for it, wouldn't have wanted a different first experience in musical theater.
My favorite all time musical. I was obsessed with the recording growing up, sang it nonstop for years in high school and cried when I finally saw it on tour. 👏
Thanks for the video. Brought back such a great memory of the show. I saw the world premiere in Toronto back in ‘96 or 97. It’s one of the best musicals I’ve seen. Great cast, staging and musical numbers.
I traveled to NYC to see the original Broadway cast in the newly opened Ford Theater. I did not know what to expect but I was enthralled. I had treated my friend Dana to see it with me, and just a few years later she died in childbirth, and so our time together watching this wonderful show is even more dear to my heart. This great couple also wrote Anastasia which my children have always loved. Thank you for bringing such beauty to this dark world. ❤️
Bravo! One of my favorite musicals ever! I went to New York City in November from Florida with a broken foot so I could see the original Broadway production.
The melody at 0:37 seems to be almost quoting the first strain of Scott Joplin's "Solace"... “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different.” (T.S. Eliot, The Sacred Wood) I guess Stephen Flaherty is a mature poet -- he steals from the greats. Superb.
One of the most brilliant scores ever written.
Agreed!
AGHHHHHH The opening notes of the Ragtime cast recording give me goosebumps EVERY time! Such a fantastic show!
me tooooo!! it's transportive and magical. a time machine back in time.
I just bawl from the first few notes.
I start crying when I hear those first few notes. What a show. More relevant today than anytime in my past.
This man's artistry, creative skill and musical talent is beyond ... genius.
