- This week brings a lot of painting (I do try to spare you), a cooking demo, a steam cleaning disaster, and the arrival of my "Belle Mere," Selena. Oh, and of course, there's a little more brocanting!
I hope I managed to figure out the sound this week!

A little tip from an interior designer point of view: stay away from small items you see in the antique stores. You have high ceilings and lots of space to fill so you rather need 'space filler' items that are bigger, wider, tall and impressive. A chateau isn't a place for nick-nacks. Better to invest in less pieces but fewer bigger ones in both rooms and other general areas. A small side table with a regular lamp are small for any bedroom you have...becomes a challenge to find the right pieces but will worth it eventually. Go slow.
Very sage advice, thank you! 😊
Let this lady decorate her chateau with things that “speak” to her, she won’t go wrong.
Your mother in law is so cute.
This is brilliant advice. It’s good to have a plan for each room so that it’s not filled with stuff that is not useful, even thought it’s beautiful. For a retreat room, as a writer, I just need a big table, with a lamp on it; a bed with a night table big enough for a book, a glass of water, and again, a good reading light! And a wardrobe, of course for clothing. Simplicity is best, I think.
@TheChateauChronicles I love your life’s journey! New subscriber here.
I realize I’m commenting 3 mos behind your post here but if I may, offer a design suggestion…
When your daughter Olivia recorded the video tour of your lovely Chateau, I noticed on the 2nd floor landing on the wall above the stairwell was a large framed wall of mirrors. When I first saw it I thought how lovely it would be to see something scenic and botanical. Similar to a beautiful scene on a French wallpaper. But then on this video (35:11 time mark) the man at the antique store showed you a very large beautiful canvas painting of a forest like garden scene with a hunting dog. Is that something you might consider? Just an idea that seemed to come together. 😊 🖼
I just discovered your channel and was so taken I went back to the 1st and and am doing them in chronological order. I don’t know the french spelling, but Tomas-what a gem!!!
It appears you have to have a very thick skin to post on CZcams. Hang in there, I am enjoying your journey!
Amazing the entitled things people write to her....like as if she has to cater to their requests? Hope she doesn't get put off...loving her vids so far 😍
Aww, thank you. I'm trying to stay on the high road when it comes to the comments. 😊
Abby, I love how natural you are on your vids, you are doing very well with the filming, fun to watch.
Thank you! 😊
Only thing is that sometimes you run the camara to fast, if you can go more slowly with the camara pls. Love your channel.
Your videos are absolutely wonderful. Feel like I’m there and livin a whole different life. Learning about a foreign country. All fun and informative, for me ha.
When cleaning velvet you have to determine the direction of the 'pile' and ONLy go down the pile, not up or across. You can maybe go back over with a wet sponge, not too wet, and reshape the pile again.
Yes. Velvet bruises.
Yes it bruises because in older pieces... its generally silk
If you are re covering don't worry about it ... but for future reference... if there is a low heat steam use it and go with the pile only and if you get some areas wher the napp is bent ... ice them run an icecubevover it and then re steam.
@@kimchatwin-smith891 Velvet bruises period. But the ice cube trick sometimes works on a cotton velvet. That looked like a linen velvet. No problem. 4 yards/meters max to recover.
@@kimchatwin-smith891 I was thinking she could stencil a gold damask pattern with pomegranates on it…. While she was ruining it …. 😂
@@kimchatwin-smith891 just kidding!!! At least it’s clean !!!!!
No one erects statues for critics. Leave her be! This is a new venture for her and I like that all is not perfect. Learning is part of all adventures!
Yes very true but it's all these comments whether good or bad that are alerting the algorithm and giving her the over night success that she has gotten. I wish her the best. But she's not interacting very well with her audience and without viewers the algorithm won't bump her up. She's too new a channel to be ignoring all the helpful comments people are offering her. It's different when she's fully established.
If you think that all she has been through and weathered is an algorithm you are the one who is lost. Life is about support, patience and love. Time you revisited your church.
Wow, Cathy, you seem to have anger issues. People are making constructive suggestions to help her improve and court more viewers, not making ugly criticisms. Calm yourself. Comments are VERY important in the CZcams world. You are making people not want to return here much less help her. Drink some wine. Take a Xanax. Try meditation. 🧘♀️
Lol. Like I said. Easy to be a critic while you drink wine and take Xanax and make comments from afar. I am far from angry. I just noticed people piling up on her. Be nice people.
@@cathybackman945 I'm with you Cathy. I've seen too many youtubers be brought down by people in the comment section. There's no anger issues here with you Cathy, just another know-it-all Karen who can't let people just be themselves! I'm all for helpful suggestions, just not criticism. The world is difficult enough, we shouldn't add to it through criticism...
Wow. So many rude comments. I’m so sorry. I love and look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing your beautiful place.
Absolutely love your show! You are doing my dream , always wanted to do this myself! Love the Chateau. Best of luck to you and keep up with the videos as you progress with this amazing task!!! Greetings from Miami, Florida!
Thanks so much! 😊
I loved the sage green oh the green room. I hope you add some back after you are finished priming. I’m so happy I found your channel, your fine is so soothing to listen to on a rainy day in Maryland. You are so inspiring!
I just had this thought too. Leaving the baseboards or doors that Nile green from the 20s would look cool. But this is the internet and everyone has an opinion about this fab house we do not own.
The white paint in your entry room makes a huge difference. It’s bright and clean now. I love the large chandelier you measured, what a beautiful addition to your chateau if you decide to purchase it. Your mother in law is a lovely woman and it’s so nice that you have her. I live alone and often create dinners from what I have in the house and not from recipes where you have to buy specific ingredients. Your risotto looked delicious and I’m sure tasted even better. The velvet on the bed is lovely and it looks good. It’s better to have it clean and bug free. Your vlogs are great. xx
Aww. Thanks so much for your lovely comment! 🤗
That was an excellent video Abby. I can’t wait to see where you will place all of your new treasures. That was so nice of your mother-in-law to come visit you. Perhaps Chloe need some little shoes.😊
Really enjoying watching you tackle the projects in such beautiful rooms.
Great adventure that you are on. Thank you for sharing it. It is a pleasure watching all of the changes in your home.
Hello from UK! Your mother in law (forgotten what you said in french already) made me laugh. Reminded me of a few tough older women I know. Just found your channel today and have binged almost every episode. Love all the details you add like what you're eating, loved the cameo from your daughter she's amazing. Was having a down day not doing anything I thought I should be but felt so relaxed watching you talk about this experience and felt like I was there wandering around the grounds discovering caves etc. Didn't feel like a wasted day anymore.
I rediscovered my love of drawing and art in lockdown and love your idea of the retreat. I'm subscribed now so looking forward to more videos. You're great! Thank you
Wow! Such a wonderful comment! Thank you! :)
Love watching your videos! Great work!
We all need a Tomas!! 🙌🏻💖 What a blessing he is! I am binging your videos to catch up. Exciting to watch you thrift for items to fill your château. I am redecorating my 1100 sq ft 1950s US Midwestern home and can appreciate the level of work and creativity that is required for your monumental endeavor. I have an incredible mother in law as well, truly blessed.
Thank you! 😊
Selena, it's so great to see you on another adventure!!!!
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I love that you have all the small victories, problems and puzzles right here with us.
Also, yours really is a beautiful house. I look forward to seeing how you finish setting it up, in your own style.
Steamers are great! I have one and they work great on your drapes too as well as mattresses. Love the video
I love the old bed frames!! Gorgeous!
How lovely to explore such unique treasures for your new home.
I want to affirm you are doing the right thing with fresh cooked meals & good fats for your beloved pup!
Fresh cooked whole foods or raw are the only good options for a good mom promoting health!
No princess treatment!
Just a smart mom avoiding junk food! 👏👍🏻🤗
I am very happy to have just discovered you!
Thanks for taking me along on your brave & exciting journey!🤩

I hope not to be a pest but..
Watch all the videos of the designer Timothy Corrigan on you tube. He has bought 2 chateaux and decorated them. I know he has scads of money but you can pick up so many design ideas from him. For instance scale I's so important in decorating all those large rooms. In other words use larger pieces. I am living my dream thru you. I always wanted a villa in Italy or chatrau in France. I'm too old now, lol! Have fun and I'm looking forward to your future videos! Love!♥️♥️♥️😘
Hi, I'm loving your videos! I recently visited France for the first time, but I didn't know your channel yet, if I already knew I would love to help with the painting, just to have the pleasure of seeing this palace finished. I'm from Brazil! big hug! 🥰
Amazing how you are doing with the house in a short time. Chloe seems to ❤️ and enjoy every second at the chateau -- ( I love Bostie terriers -- they have fabulous energy! )

Watching this video, I see you are a kind, patient, and polite person.
Yes, she is. Can't say the same for some of her viewers!
@@seaduster8347 agree! The rudeness of some people!
@@seaduster8347 You are not kidding.
Aww, thanks guys! 😊
Thank you for sharing ! Such fun ! Cheers !!
Just here enjoying your journey. I watch a few of the mega château vlogs which are interesting and enjoyable but your petite maison is approachable for me.
Your house looks Gorgeous, the bed ends look much cleaner but must go with the grain . Cant wait for each room to get a fresh coat of paint .
This was good fun. Keep up the good work.
I love your videos. I hope there are many more in the future. I think your are an inspiration to others. It will be very beautiful when all is finished. I can't wait to see what you do to the cave.

Amazing! What energy!

Hi how are you doing?
Thank you for another interesting and fun vlog! Your belle mere is lovely, and it's so nice that you are close - you have both been through so much that nobody should have to endure. Hugs to you both. That secretaire was amazing! I love that it can be hidden inside its cabinet!
Thank you so much! And I love that desk too!
Loved seeing this! This would be a dream for sure. Loved the shopping in the store! My home I did a lot of painting and rehab. It was fun.

I love going on the shopping trips with you, those antique stores are packed with wonderful treasures. sending best wishes from Whidbey x
Aw! I love Whidbey. I used to be on the Board of Hedgebrook so have spend quite a bit of time there! So glad you found my channel too! 🤗
@@chateauchronicles I immediately thought of Hedgebrook when you talked about a writer's retreat. I live very near to them and the llama field :) I felt the same tingles about living on Whidbey as you did when you found your new home, something magical ❤❤
Your vlog is a joy to watch. I would love to sit in your garden with the view in a comfortable lounge chair reading a good book. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
Lovely!
Love how you try. All a learning process. Good for you! The painted areas look wonderful !
Thank you! Cheers!
I swear that looks cleaner than when you started. I love that color of the velvet.
I should have showed all the dirt that came off on the nozzle thingy! It was nasty! 🤗
@@chateauchronicles I can just imagine.
I’m in awe Abby. So happy for and proud of you. ❤
Love it when you take us with you.
Your Mother in law is so sweet. It’s a long process picking out furniture, but you have good taste . Can’t wait to see the new purchases in the chateau.
Also I love watching your videos. I also love watching people update château. Keep up the fantastic job

Stay tuned... tomorrow! :)
Omg I loved that secretary ❤ thank god you got it. Otherwise I would have to fly there to get it 😅
I'm liking all the different styles of chandeliers and sconces. So much more character than everything matching. They look so lovely in your chateau. and wow, that one shop has a lot of them to choose from. Maybe the price will come down as time goes on?
I would love to go shopping with you! All these items are beautiful.
Fresh food is always better than kibble , less health issues. Love Chloe 🐶❤️
Wow!
You go girl!
You’re learning and doing great! The place is coming together!👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏🤗🤗
Thank you so much 🤗
Wonderful progress! Do enjoy the mild weather. The Mountain Passes in Alberta are forecasting 40cm of snow. Cheers
I just found your channel a few days ago, and I'm hooked!!! You are real, organic, informative, and and just a joy to watch!!! Thank you, and keep on doing you!!! I really enjoyed watching you going very fast getting your painting done, amazing! So cool!
Abby you are so fun! I’ve enjoyed this process with you. Thank you for sharing your moments with us, social media.
Thank you for watching! :)
Love the risotto bowls 🦁 lion theme 🙌🏼
How wonderful that you and your MIL stiff have a good relationship. You never know how things will go. So that's nice. I really enjoyed the long video and I especially love how real and raw it all is and you are. ❤️
Yes, we are lucky! 🤗
As someone going through the same journey in France, so appreciate you for not editing when something doesn’t work out. We learn so much from your trial and errors, like velvet steaming and napes!! of stunning old beds. Agree with the comment, apply the French art of the ‘Negoce’ with that brocante guy. You’re a great client for him❤. Your progress is inspiring.
Thanks for the encouragement! Making mistakes every day! :)
I just love that little pop up writing desk and those chandeliers wow.
Right? So cute!
I love your new home in France. Visited France a few years ago and fell in love. I don't know if you intend to turn it into a B&B but you certainly have the rooms for in the attic. It's just amazing. Peaceful and lovely. Best wishes in your amazing chateau! Wish I could do the same.
Thank you so much! 😊
There are great folk art paints that do a beautiful job on old bedframes. I would love to see the frames in antique white with some gold leaf accents or silver metallic-- a ton of work, but would look airy and lovely with the velvet fabrics (sorry about the steaming disaster -- probably if you redo in direction of fabric nap, it will restore it). Like the reupholstering idea with the old chairs and bedframes.
Brush or vacuum to lift the nap. I love watching 💕💕
That antique shop is reall cheap compared to his Irish counterpart I'm literally chomping at the bit🥰😍🤩
Haha. Time to get yourself to France! 🤗
I know nothing about chateaus. You're my introduction. So far I really like your personality and home. I'm excited to come along for your journey with its transformation. Thanks for sharing 🤍
Thank you! 🤗
Really just killing it!
Love your high end taste go with it more is always more and people love it that's one of many reasons versailles is so admired
So many adventures! Loved your vlog, very relaxing. Your mother-in-law is from Canada - sweet. Have been enjoying your journey.
Thank you so much! 🤗
I love your journey
Oh how I wish I had been brocante shopping with you. So many sweet deals for bedside tables. Can you show them all to us in a vlog after they are delivered. Thx.
I’ll tell ya, I laugh every time I see Chloe pick up that ball to the beat of the opening song
I usually use some white wine rather than water with my risotto and then the stock, makes a very delicious meal❤
I was waiting for her to add the wine! ... maybe next time.
You can send the silver meat dome to me…I will be glad to roast the turkey! Gorgeous chandeliers in this shoppe♥️
You’re doing so Great 😊. I love your new home. I would gladly go to help you next time you go there. 😊So beautiful. ❤keep up the good work.
Thank you!! :)
Your vlog is a joy Dear Chatelaine Abby!
Aww. You are too kind! 🤗
So enjoy your videos
What a great vlog! ❤ your mother inlaw (bellemere) is wonderful. So lovely to see her there with you. Such a character 🥰🥰 That braconte was stunning. The antiques in there are beautiful ❤❤❤ I think that chandelier would look beautiful in the chateau its such a stunning piece even that...I think is called an empire chandelier???? Looks like a teardrop (someone correct me please 😂) is gorgeous!. As for steaming the bed...its a shame the ones telling you to steam it didn't tell you to follow the grain of the fabric 😑 but overall its now clean and at least you will be reupholstering it so there's a silver line ❤❤❤😊😊 can't wait to see what fabrics you use! Love the vlogs and a great mixture of "happenings". Can't wait for the next one 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😊
You are making great progress!!! It's amazing what white paint does, immediately everything looks better. The place is really coming together, you are working so hard but you can really see the results❤️ I wouldn't worry too much about the upholstery, if it's going to be re-upholstered eventually anyway it doesn't really matter. Wait until it's completely dry and go over it with a clothes brush in the direction of the pile and forget about it, it will be fine.
Wendy, you are 💯 right.
Personally, I like color. Not the colors that were there, but all white just seems to wash everything to pale.
Your filming has improved dramatically!❤ I’m loving all of your content.
Also, can we have more on the relationship of you and your mother-in-law? You too are so very interesting together. 💕
Haha. It's a complicated one! 🤗
She's adorable and you're fortunate to have each other!
OMG! I could go crazy in that antique store!!!!
you are very hard working and you are very interesting i told you you are just as good then chateau diary keep the good job
You are doing soooo well!!! You certainly have the language sorted!!!! I suppose you'll make loads of mistakes along the way but you'll learn and it will all be the better for it. Well done for giving it a go. Braver than me!!! 😀
I hope so!
So good to see your video
