    I took a rescued iguana that was caught in the in field of the daytona speedway in dec 2016. He's a beast now! stays inside in the winter and has an 8x8 outdoor enclosure for most of the year. I got lucky with his personality. What a sweet boy he is! Cherries are his favorite treat.

      While we do feel that invasive animals can throw off the balance of ecosystems and should be controlled, we really don’t enjoy seeing the animals shot in that way. A lot of hunters show great respect for the animals they kill, but these “cowboys” seem act like their killing alien invaders. We don’t typically watch those videos either way.

      Iguanas is probably one of the worst pets you can get. They are incredibly hard to take care of and require a lot of money. They can also be very aggressive. Even if they seem calm they can change spontaneously.

      @NatureInYourFace  Před 3 lety +2

Make sure to add calcium powder with D3 if no UV bulb was used, but don’t over do it with the D3 as that can make it worse. @NatureInYourFace  Před 3 lety +1

      I'd agree that iguanas don't necessarily make great starter pets, particularly if you don't have time to socialize them but to generalize and say that they make the "worst" pets is simply untrue. We've raised them from hatchlings as well as taken in adults that we've rescued and the majority of them are super sweet. I'm surprised he said that about iguanas. I'm thinking about getting an iguana and I know they can be tamed you handling a lot but my only concern is how males can become aggressive during Bree season.My question is if I get a baby iguana and it happens to be a male when it grows and gets to mature age do yall have any tips on how to prevent it from getting aggressive during breeding season?

    • @NatureInYourFace
      @NatureInYourFace  Před 2 dny

      @@allenmelton3367 Thanks for your question. Of all the lizards you can keep in captivity, iguanas are the most varied when it comes to individual personality. Some are dog tame from the get go and never show aggression or defensive behavior, others can be practically unhandleable and some fall somewhere in between. This can happen at any time and not necessarily coinciding with breeding. It's a hormonal increase during the breeding season so there's not much you can do other than avoid picking up the iguana when this occurs. The best advice we can give is to start out with a young iguana and handle it whenever possible. They can be territorial and become cage aggressive, especially towards strangers. Generally speaking, most iguanas will tame down fairly quickly with the proper care and handling. You're going to want to trim the nails regularly and be careful of the tail, it's basically a reptilian saw blade! You might want to have a professional "sex" the iguana before purchasing it and maybe buy a female rather than a male, as the males are more likely to display defensive and territorial behavior. Hope this helps.

    • @NatureInYourFace
      @NatureInYourFace  Před 3 lety +2

      It’s natural for younger iguanas to be skidding and territorial. Patience and persistence is the best approach. You can try feeding from tongs and feeding outside of enclosure so you can pet him while he eats or just be close by. If you need to don’t feel silly to wear a protective glove to offer food by hand or to gently remove from enclosure. Once they figure out biting doesn’t deter you and that you’re not a threat or scared of them they will usually calm down. If you can sit with him in a room and allow it to explore and come to you on its own that can help as well. Just experiment with positive reinforcement and good experiences with you. Hope that helps.

      @NatureInYourFace  Před 4 lety

      This is typical of lizards to be territorial of their enclosures. Unfortunately sometimes they will stay this way no matter how many times you interact with them. You can try changing things up in the enclosure or feeding outside of the enclosure to stop any food excitement/aggression. You could also try opening one side when removing the lizard and using the other when feeding if that’s an option. Just have patients, they are smart animals and will learn.

The fact is, there's a lot to learn about iguanas in captivity, including their diet, lighting, temp and humidity, etc. We've come a long way but there are still many questions surrounding the "correct" way to keep them. The fact is, no one can completely replicate their wild habitat while owning one in captivity. He is presently about 2ft long. He will see his vet (herpetologist) Thursday. Any helpful Ideas to encourage him to eat more? Have some experience with other legged reptiles. But they were omnivorous. Kept my other guy around for 10 years. Hopefully we get this guy up and about. Hopefully he'll get a clean bill of health from the vet. I've not seen parasites in his poo. And haven't seen any mites when drying him off and looking close. So I'm hoping he's just undernourished but otherwise healthy. Thank you so much for the encouragement and the supplement suggestion. Try offering food from tongs, especially red and orange foods as that will be more appealing. If they are young the tail will fully grow back. Try just petting with hand or other while they eat. Sometimes forcing them to be handled can do the opposite and they associate it with a negative thing. Food is always a good way to show you are friend not foe.

      Thanks for sharing. They really are great animals and can make amazing pets. People don’t realize how intelligent iguanas and other reptiles are, that’s why we make videos and do live shows to educate the public.

      Is the iguana shedding? Sounds strange and without a pic it's hard for us to know if it's an injury, disease or something completely normal. If there's no swelling or growths I wouldn't worry but without a photo I can't even really picture what you mean. You can always email us a photo. natureinyourface19@gmail.com

    There are anoles here and there..but they expect me to believe the iguanas are invasive.. me you’re invasive lol. Good video though.

      Thanks, glad you liked the video. Not sure what you're trying to say but green iguanas are definitely not native to south Florida. As far as anoles....the only native species in Florida is the green anole (Anolis carolinensis) the others are mainly from off shore islands and they have taken over the Glades.

      Nature In Your Face I just don’t agree with killing iguanas man. Terrible thing they do there

      @@DJCole34 I would agree that it is unfortunate that the iguanas have to be killed, it's no fault of their own that they ended up as invasive species. Having said that, the alternative is to allow them to continue to breed and decimate the populations of native plant and animal species, ultimately destroying the Everglades. The meat and skins are being harvested and not wasted so I don't see why you see this as something negative. There is no other place on Earth like the everglades and feeling sorry for the invasive iguanas is not a reason to risk losing it forever!

      Nature In Your Face they could just capture and release the iguanas in the islands they come from but instead they make it sport.

      I want to know when iguanas were first reported In the Everglades.. and how much of the Everglades had been surveyed and what species cataloged before that time... because I think if a human can manage to swim from Cuba to Florida, so could a giant semi aquatic lizard species.. I seriously don’t believe the invasive species narrative.. sure plenty of people have parroted that I just take it with a grain of salt. Especially when I’m seeing a herbivorous species being slaughtered for the hell of it.. seriously twisted solutions .. even if the narrative is true, killing them is not the solution. There’s a side of youtube I can’t even stomach to watch... it’s fun and games.. not a practical solution.

      Are you speaking to us or the iguana? If you’re gonna eat me at least cover me in Sweet Baby Rays first while I’m still alive. That way I can lick some off and die happy.

    • @NatureInYourFace
      @NatureInYourFace  Před 3 lety

      No, normal green iguanas have orange and brown pigment which can make them look similar to the red phase color morph. They do look somewhat similar so I can see why you might confuse it for one. Thanks for commenting.
