    You can also remove the cables, pull cables out of housing, clean and coat in a layer of grease. They can only be pulled out in one direction though. Sometimes needles will jump around becuase of binding. You can also hook a cordless drill to the male end hanging out of speedo cable, to check operation, like you said counter clockwise, and it will give you a good indication if the cables are properly lubed and not binding.

    Nicely done on the speedo repair, but whats the deal with the driveshaft? It looks like the yoke flange is almost touching the transmission extension housing.
    Should typically be 1-2 inches of yoke shaft sticking out away from the housing..

    hey, I'm having issues. My truck I just bought is a 1987 305 R10 Custom deluxe. It has the transmission pan of a 700R so I'm assuming thats what it is. I am trying to order a speedo cable but none of them look right. The one I pulled is 65-70 inches long and a one piece. The ones on rock auto are 80 (manual) 61 (upper) 40 (lower) or 20 (lower). None of these really seem right as they are either two pieces or for a manual transmission. I also have an extra piece that goes from the transmission to the speedo cable which doesn't appear to be in your video. It basically threads onto the transmission and then has threads turned 90 degrees to the engine bay of the truck for the speedo cable to attach to. Do I need this piece? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web and am stuck right now

    • @mbjdiy1778
      @mbjdiy1778  Před 5 lety +2

      61" to speedometer and the 41" for connection to the 700r4 these are what are needed if broken or not there . Most of the time it is the 41 that breaks due to lack of lubricant and the 90 degree turn stresses it (i.e. poor design) Lubricate the new one with synthetic grease. Works for me .Check auto zone and work from there for size and part number to buy or find a better deal on amazon or whoever. I hope i have helped you here is the autozone page God Bless.

      That was very helpful. Thanks so much. I managed to find an upper cable (60) and a lower (21) for the 700r4 transmission which I have order as I figured 81 inches ought to be able to fill in for the 68.25 inch older cable + 90 degree adaptor. Does this adaptor have a ratio? Or is it 1:1? Will I have to order a new speedo driven gear? Thanks again for the help!

    • @mbjdiy1778
      @mbjdiy1778  Před 5 lety +1

      First typically 1:1 ratio on the 90 /next check if the driven gear is still square at the end and not rounded out connect the short cable to it will in park no engine on see if you can turn the cable at the other end ( not connected end to transmission) and see if it turns if it does NOT that means the shaft on the driven gear is still good and good inside also. Good luck God bless.
