  • Our first-ever Revology 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible is finally here. And to mark the occasion we invited the legendary designer Chip Foose from Foose Design to visit Revology headquarters and to take a spin in the GT500KR convertible. The event represented the coming together of two worlds; Chip, with his experience as the creator of individual automotive designs, and Tom, the architect of Revology's OEM-style approach to the building of reproduction original classic cars.

I get the sense when you said you can’t drive Hot Rods it set the tone and annoyed Chip. It’s too bad because I would have liked to have heard his true opinion on the car. I personally think this is the best car you all have built so far. Out of the stadium homerun!

I'm guessing the comment along the lines of "this is a real car that can be driven" with the implication that customs cars are not that, may not have been the best way to chat up Chip. He kind of makes his living off of custom cars. I don't know, just guessing.

  • @moesizlac2596
    @moesizlac2596 Před 2 měsíci +19

Oops...kinda got off on the wrong foot with the "cars you can actually drive" comment.
Revology's branding is about contrasting their cars with the fact that old cars, even updated ones, really don't turn out well.
But Foose's cars are rolling art and are done to very high standards, and are real hotrods that really do drive as good as they look.
What Revology's real message is: "most classic cars are unsafe at any speed, and even the ones that get some updates are not very well done." It is just a big mistake to lump all hotrods into this message.
Revology was right to get Foose to have a look. Revology cars are production focused Foose machines. We love Foose cars. They are perfection. Foose is a car savant and is in touch with every part of the car world and his love and craftsmanship are poured into every tiny detail of everything he touches. Revology has brought that craftsmanship from that high place and made it a bit more accessible through a standardization process. Revology cars are what us mere mortals might aspire to, because a Foose car is so far out of reach.
Revology needs to re-think their brand message a bit. Not change what they do, just get away from the idea that theit cars are not hotrods. They are hotrods of a very high Standard. They are what we love about they best hotrods, with none of the drawbacks of all those merely "resto-modded old cars"
-- Foose is the ideal, Revology is the dream you can reach.
If I was Revology's PR guy, I would pull this video, and write an apology to Foose, and re-shoot it with this idea in mind.
But that ship has likely sailed. And your cars do speak for themselves.
    - a fan

What brilliant these days is that the big auto manufacturers are making parts and components that can be used to build out a high powered custom vehicle and one can still go to the parts counter for replacement parts. Very cool that you can make an OEM kitted out hot rod which has driven the aftermarket into a higher level of reliable performance, fit, and finish to remain strong in the categories beyond aesthetics. No better time than nowadays to build hot rods and resto mods of any year and that goes even more for the performance off-road segments. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

Revology Cars are nice, but I'd rather have FOOSE build me a car from scratch! Yes you can drive Hot Rods everyday. All you have to do is go out in the garage, start it up every single day and drive it... To make comments that Hot Rods are not driveable for everyday is disrespectful to Hot Rod builders... Don't forget your company was totally influenced by Hot Rods first, you just dialed it back a notch...
The fact that Revology had Mr. Foose come over and drive it for Mr. Fooses approval says it all. So glad they did this video because you could the jealousy all over his face having to submit to World Class Car Designer Chip Foose.
There is no shame is the Foose Game & that is why Chip boldly told him you should have the Revology Logo on the dash if you are not ashamed of it in so many unsaid words.... Chip did not deserve to be disrespected like that for no reason at all but pure envy and jealousy on Revology's Tom Scarpello's part... I'm truly shocked that an Italian car builder would actually show jealousy & envy on his face... Dude was totally "STAR STRUCK" by having Foose in his presence!

Tom also did a segment with Jay Leno. Neither Jay nor Chip seemed to grasp the fact that Revology was building new cars, not rebuilding old muscle cars. Chip acted like he was doing Tom a favor just by being there. I do agree that they should take this video down, or at least edit out the Chip Foose part as it's not helping his brand.

The disgruntled look on Chip's face can't be denied. The choice of words set the tone for the entire video. I would have clarified that statement and given Chip my most sincere apology within a second once realizing that it came out as a negative.

The wheels don't look right. The glaring omission is the roll bar. They don't repop those, so sol..also shelby didn't build the 68s. All were built at AO Smith at Livonia Mi in Nov 1967.

i like more the revology kind of approach than the foose kind of approach. but in the "explaining" what you do, and trying to get the approval from a famed person... you kind of insulted his kraft... saying "real cars" and "you can actually drive" . . . then Chip just got silent and minimum polite to get through the day.

Chip with you at Revology. Hmmm... As I expected, his contemptuous personality was clearly visible. It is not his place to tell you: "your name should be there" in place of the CJ emblem on the dash. You aren't going to look at one of his cars, and say "you shouldn't have done this. You should do this". I met him once, and that was enough for me. He verifies his lack of design ability with the 1971 custom Mustang he built, by using 1969 Camaro RS tail lights on the build. Anyway, keep up the phenomenal craftsmanship at Revology.
