    … this points it out to me better…it is exactly the effect of the lower pipes on the pipe organ…especially when they play anything other than a long sustained note, to add to a chord…so with recorders also, it is very much in the background at best…at least on any live recording of baroque recorders, unless the recording technology is adjusted to create the balance… the recorder itself is louder in the upper register versus the lower, the lower recorders are all the more so, starting quiet in the upper register and becoming almost completely inaudible in the lower, except to the performer perhaps…and in recorder choirs…to me the lower recorders sound like people talking in the lobby, not knowing intermission is over and they should have gone back to their seats already…
