    • @EddieLeal
      @EddieLeal Před rokem

      While this may help bolster local economy by providing jobs to local nationals, US military spending in local area, it could also prove to be a double edged sword. How many of your countrymen would be happy with the presence of US military? Possible resistance/protesting, What about your gov't? Would they be willing to negotiate terms for a lease with the US gov't? If so, for how long and how much? A military base cost money to manage. It cost considerable tax payer money to ship, house troops/equipment there.
      Don't get me wrong. I'm sure US troops wouldn't mind a tour of duty in a beautiful country like Brazil. However the cost may prove too much to deal with over time. Not to mention how it may impact Brazil's ecological system. Land may have to be cleared/wild life displaced etc... In efforts to cut back on military spending the US, in the past, has closed overseas bases. That said, anything is possible. The idea would first have to be brought up to your gov't and ours for consideration.

    Happy to see that Uncle Sam is investing more into these bases. Its a hardship tour for many and it is a welcome relief to have more creature comforts when you can get them. Lots of improvements/upgrades in the military infrastructure/quality of life. I was stationed at Camp Stanley from 6/2000 - 6/2001 I got to see a some upgrades to the base but not at this level within the short time I was assigned there.
    It was a little hard at first being that I was not with my family. Experienced some separation anxiety. However, it was a very eye opening experience. Made some good friends with our KATUSA military counterparts as well as within my own organization. I was thrown back by the beauty of the country, the size and complexity of its cities, towns and rural areas. As some of you that have been stationed there may know it did have it's moments of difficulty/stress being that we were there in a military capacity. Alerts at 0300 hrs for example. lol! Military duties aside, it was a great experience that I will never forget. If you are assigned there make the most of it. You may never see that part of the world again. Most people never leave their own town/city so appreciate it as much as possible. 😉
