- We recently went on a little day trip to Osan Airbase (which is a U.S. Air Force Base) located in Pyeongtaek City. Right outside of the air base is Shinjang Shopping Street, an area full of little local shops and restaurants where you often feel you're no longer in Korea. You can find a variety of food, goods, and services in this 'Little America' that are difficult to find elsewhere in Korea. We had such a blast on this day trip and really hope you guys enjoy the video :)

I was stationed at Osan AB in March 1991 to March 1992. Those were clearly the best days of my life. I turned 21 years old while there. My fellow airmen were like family to me even the NCO's. We partied hard there every night it seems.

So surprising seeing all the soldiers, then, you remember it's a military town. It's good to see everything opening up again and life becomes normal.
It was sooo different for me (Sarah), but totally normal to Kyuho-and have him lots of army flashbacks 😂
Wow! This was my first base when I married my husband in ‘94! My first taste of Korean food and I fell in love with it 😄 Good to see the streets all cleaned up, all the shops look so shiny! We lived on base and I would go have lunch with friends ‘downtown’ 😍 Left in ‘96…..

I left osan at the end of 2022 and I’ve been missing it ever since, can’t wait to go back one day!
I was at Osan in '94-'95. Looks mostly the say but more signs in English and freshened up. Loved all the shops.
I only visited Osan once (to see my military friend haha) but I had a blast, it really did feel like a mini america and I loved the convenience for everything 👌🏻🇺🇸

I remember visiting Osan so many times for shopping on base and going out to the bars. I wondered what it looked like years later, so I really appreciate this video! Glad to see nothing’s changed! My dad was stationed at Osan from 2009 to 2011 . I remember attending Osan American Middle School at Osan AB, Go Thunderbirs. It was amazing. I loved it. The close knit American and Korean community was awesome. I wanna go back one day but the Navy wont let me.
When my wife and I went back to Korea (in 2016), to visit her Family in Munsan, I was shocked to see how modernized the city had become! Munsan is small (only about 65K ppl living there), but 90% of all the older wooden structures were demolished, and upgraded to newer buildings! We went to the Ville of Songyu-Ri, which is located a half mile east of Munsan! That’s where I was stationed at Camp Pelham in ‘90-‘91! That place too had been completely modernized, and except for the main strip, NOTHING was recognizable to us! Camp Pelham had been completely demolished, and turned over to the ROK Army! Back in my day, there were GI’s walking around everywhere! All the shops, stores and clubs, were tailored for US Military GI’s! It’s like what Sarah said…Korean Nationals were like a minority in their own village! All that was gone by 2016 when I returned to visit after only a 14 year absence 😱! The Paradise Club was the only structure still recognizable from my youth, that was still operating in its same original site! Even my wife was a little teary-eyed from all the changes that had occurred once my old Army Camp closed down! For me, I was very surprised by the fact that, I was the ONLY AMERICAN walking the streets that day, where there were once hundreds of us that used to call Songyu-Ri our home for 12 months!

I was stationed there in 2002 and then visited a lot when I was stationed in Yongsan in 2006. I recognized some of the streets and Blue Opera lol, but wow I can't believe how much it has changed. I'm in awe. I would love to go back one day. Thanks for this video.
I worked at the ITT office in Osan from 97-02 as a civilian employee. I loved it there. Now I’m back in the states but hopefully one day I can go back. If you ever signed up for any of our tours, we probably met.

What a difference 46 years makes. I left Osan in 1978. The town was called Songtanup. The alleyways were mostly open-air food and spice markets. Park Chung Hee was the President of ROK at the time. Not nearly as Americanized as it is now. I loved Korea and the Korean people. This is a tad overwhelming to see how much it has changed. Thanks for the tour.

Served at Camp Humphreys back in 1993. Osan AB is one of the places we loved to hang out on the weekends. I was 19 years young and possibly still one of the best years of my life.

WOW! I wish I could be there next month for the festival. It's certainly going to be fun. That hamburger place reminds me of old-style diners in the US (don't know if you had the same design in Canada)...the little jukeboxes by each booth, the colors, and always the best for burgers.
We were SO excited to see and experience that 50s style American diner! We don’t have any (that I’ve seen) in Nova Scotia at least, so it was a first for both of us-felt like we were in an old Hollywood movie! 🍔

We were stationed at camp Humphries 2018-2020. I miss it SO much.
I went to Yokosuka in Japan (back when I still had a valid ID to go shopping), and it felt like America but nothing close to this! Wow! The area just outside Osan AB looks like a lot of fun~ Especially those Cosmic Cat Donuts 😍😍
I remember going to Osan for shopping trips when I was stationed in Korea. I was down around Camp Carroll/Camp Walker/Camp Henry area then the second time I was stationed at Camp Stanley. I loved my ti e in Korea would love to go back and visit.

I'm American and this whole video is blowing my mind, lol! Those arcades are like something you'd see on the boardwalk by the ocean! 🤯 It's like someone took like...a bunch of stores and stuff out of the malls and off the boardwalks and dropped them into Korea. It's so jarring, lol! It's really interesting though! It makes sense though, cuz there's a lot of military stationed there so they'd ofc want a "taste of home." I've just like... Never seen my own culture condensed into an area in the middle of somewhere else? Idk how to really explain it?? What an experience!

Yay another military video! Very interesting area. The architecture of the buildings is definitely Korea, but all the store fronts totally look like North America haha. Will put that on the check list if we can get back out to Korea someday!

I've never been to that area! I went to visit some friends in 평택 and there were just a couple streets we focused on but I would have loved to have gone to this area! An interesting fusion of Korea and America. That's how 이태원 has always felt to me too.

Greetings from Maryland USA. I enjoyed the tour and was surprised to see Rocky's. There is a restaurant not far from me. It has those 50's vibes when I was a teenager. My mouth was watering looking at those burgers🤣Then I was surprised to see Cinnabon. You can smell the aroma for blocks. I loved to get the warmed Cinnamon bun. Thanks for the memories.

I was stationed at Osan 76-77 and 80-83. 85 i was stationed at Clark AB (4yr) with TDYs to Korea.
Makes me wish my dad had been stationed in Korea while we were growing up as Air Force brats. But at least I got to live in Germany for 3 years. Fun times! Funny how these sights, sounds, and even smells bring on nostalgia. Germany definitely had its own smell. I loved it.

For me, Germany smells like warm baked goods fresh from an oven; worn cobblestone streets in a fine misty rain; leather saddles, alfalfa hay, and horses; bratwurst, mettwurst, mustard, beer, wine, and big chewy pretzels; antique drapery, furnishings, and cool, damp castle walls; the warmth of a June day or a fresh snow and whatever they put on the roads to melt it. Remember the very first day you went to school? That school smell of freshly sharpened pencils, paste, crayons, books, and Manila folders? It might be weird but smells can really take me back to a particular time and place, kind of like hearing an old song on the radio that immediately transports you to a specific memory.

I had an opportunity to work inside of Osan AB a few years back when they were doing rennovations on the Morin Gate.
Been to that Rocky burger place, had *hundreds* of aircrafts landing and taking off whilst wokring on the project. Good memories lol

I was there 2 Tours Osan almost Back to Back 83 to 85 and 86 to 87 then back at Kunsan 90 to 91
That would seem to be a perfect place for Korean families to experience American culture, food and shopping without flying to the US. And its only a day trip from Seoul.

Itaewon has changes so much since the days in late 1990s early 2000s. Last time I was in itaewon pre Covid it was like an Arab Indian town.
It’s changed sooo much in the last 10 years, particularly the smaller side streets! So many amazing restaurants have opened up :)

i left there in 1988, its chaged alot, but the kimchi carts what we used to call them had the greatest food.

@@2hearts1seoul well some good, some bad, there were like 200 bars. I did learn to like octopus, as soon as you stepped out the gate there would be an old age Ajumeoni telling you nice young girl come with me. There used to be a potable water spigot at the main gate so town folks could get safe drinking water, the town always catered to the gi’s and treated us good. We all had our favorite bar and favorite place to eat and once you made friends with those people they really looked out for you and took care of you. We had the same kimchi cart we always got our food from on the way back to the base, nice old lady, she woulda fed me even if I had no money. It was a remote tour back then so a lot of drinking went on.

Definitely if someone can bring you on post go to the commissary to get any American food or beverage you can’t get off post. I was out there 2019 right when Covid hit. So I missed out on a lot. But watched this channel religiously.
