Annalise Keating is an unorthodox law professor. Instead of being a “good” law professor or actually “teaching” she makes her students unpaid interns for her criminal defense law firm. Drama! Mystery! Legal technicalities! Today we’re going to review How to Get Away With Murder. Stay until the end for my Legal Realism Grade!

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous. Today I'm taking a break from teaching law students how to kick ass in law school to take on lawyers in the movies and on TV. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth.

You gotta admit that there are some Tv show's that are like where did you get your information from because it's completely inaccurate.
@@alski200 Six Feet Under (which is a show I totally enjoyed and loved) had something in their DVD extra stuff where they interviewed actual undertakers who talked about the show. Obviously in contrast to independent CZcamsrs, they could just cherry-pick. But at least from what I learned there, Six Feet Under totally made sure to portray the life at such a funeral home and the professional materials and work and stuff as genuine as possible.
I love that he actually screamed it.

Doctor Mike watches and tears apart multiple medical dramas in a very entertaining ways, and obgyn Mama doctor Jones reacts to any dramas showing pregnancy and birth etc. I find their videos more entertaining than the actual shows 😆 Also educating at the same time, so it's a double win.

Throughout the series they cover that extensively. Basically you get away with malpractice through more malpractice, bribery, extortion and blackmail.

SUSTAINED! These shows, especially medical, legal, or police dramas are all the same. A hard-ass instructor, students who get reamed out, narcissistic students, lots of strutting around, and a lack of caring about what it's really like in those professions. Props to you for calling it out!
I agree its why I love the NCIS shows they're really good at being friendly with each other, you'd want to be relaxed in that field
That's why I like "the rockie" in police dramas, ok, so as it's continued, it's become way too preachy & lost what made it great, but I love that it doesn't stick to the stereotypes, the hard arse instructor (Tim) gets a second rockie to train who is former military & so he goes the total opposite way, teaching her to appreciate butterflies & making her feel good about herself & when his first rookie, who he was super hard on confronts him about it, he explains to her that she needed to see the dangers, the new one already does & needs to see people as people, not enemies & it makes it clear that he is in fact a genuinely good instructor, genuinely responding to whatever his rookies need. Same with the students, hugely diverse, not narcissists & genuinely caring about the job, but all for different reasons

Just finished the entire series which kept me glued for the past two months as I binge watched all 6 seasons. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I got jealous, I got turned on, I got perplexed, I got hurt. But most importantly, I was satisfied because I felt so much love from the very start to the very end!.... This is one hell of a show!....

I work in the medical field and when I watch TV series that are based around Emergency Rooms, Patients, Doctors and they way handle certain scenarios, I always find myself rolling my eyes because I know they are so way off and wrong. But at the same time, they take situations and cases that would normally not be intresting whatsoever and turn it into some of my favorite episodes. I'm just so glad that you are watching it, once you make it to season 2, there's no turning back and things are about to start popping off my friend and you will hooked to the very end!... Enjoy!....

I can't believe how many comments are pointing out it's a TV show and not understanding that the point of videos like this is to teach those that want to learn more. We all know it's a TV show and doesn't need to be realistic, but it's interesting to learn more about how the legal system works. He's not criticising the show for choosing entertainment over realism, he's just using it as a way to teach people how real law works.

Because we’re ALL pointing out the fact that the whole POINT of the show is to show how unethical Annalise Keating’s teaching methods are..that’s LITERALLY the synopsis of the show and he would know that if he did research before turning on the camera and getting so frustrated about a fictional TV show that he had to take a 1 hr break to cool off. Another thing I really hated was how she gave all the "dirty work" to her interns /later when she got interns/, like instead of doing the research by herself she'd just ask 6 people to go through all the files and find the best defense - im sorry maam but isnt that literally your job? I think the combination of you as a lawyer doing this and the show showing what it shows is art. As a show they obviously can’t spend the time to explain all of the legal concepts so as an audience we just have to assume they’re right however you as a lawyer are explaining to us the legal concepts because that’s what you do on your platform. Truth! This is a one episode review of a pilot. There are definitely better episodes he could've reviewed that are more legally accurate. But again, this is a pilot. Something created just to get the network to approve the actual show.
For instance, one of the first thing he pointed out was how Asher couldn't be an intern for a Chief Justice. What Legal Eagle does not know, is that Asher is the son of a federal judge. It's not unlikely that a his father wouldn't pull strings for him to intern for another federal judge. But since this is the pilot, a lot of these things are unrealistic to us, the viewer.

Jessica that’s kind of how these types of videos go. Not sure what you were expecting exactly. The context clues in the title insinuates the content of the video. Aka a guy, who spent a lot of money to go to law school, being incredibly frustrated by extreme misrepresentations of something he spent a lot of time at.

i think it would be more accurate to think of it less as a legal drama and more of a fictional representation of what its like to be a functional/recovering addict. really fun to watch if you dont think too hard about it! its one of my favourite shows

Hi. I'm a student studying to become a teacher and whilst you're probably right about these things never happening in an actual law school. I can say that I understand her way of teaching in the beginning. Her theory and way to do it. I could definitely talk to you more about this. As I think you would get a newer understanding of some teaching methods and theories and I'll probably get a better understanding of law as I have that as an interest.

I know its intended to make the professor look like a prodigy of law practice, but the simple fact that she shanghaied a bunch of know-nothing first year law students into her WITNESS INTERVIEW for a trial she has in TWO DAYS makes it seem like this crazy lady actually has no idea what she's doing and she's bringing her class on board to pick and poach their brains about ideas that she can't think of on her own and to have a scapegoat if the trial doesn't go her way.
If you look authoritative you'll be authoritative, that's basically how legal drama try to hook us into law school
