  • First attempt recording with my new Taylor GS Mini e-Koa Plus. Beautiful guitar. The harmonics and sustain are amazing for a smaller guitar. Love my Taylor 314ce in flame maple equally, but they're different animals. This is a keeper! Playing in DADGAD tuning inspired by a few CZcamsrs playing around in this tuning.

    I have a spruce top with a maple neck. These little guitars are freaks of nature. They sound way better than they should.

      I couldn’t agree more. The Academy 12 can boast the same thing too.

      @@ka3uxu1 @sundaynightdrunk Thanks for the comments. Taylor guitars really are fantastic. I have a 314ce and, well, these two mistresses fight for my attention. ;o)

      Thank you! Really appreciate that. Super little guitars aren't they? Very "pick up" able...

      Thanks Simon 🙏 Yes, it’s plugged in (right channel) and mic’d (left) and mixed in Presonus Studio to give it some breadth. Really appreciate your comments. Cheers

    Just fantastic, I have the standard mahogany sounds really good for size defies logic really when you hear other travel guitars, you make it sound too easy😎😎😎

      Wow, thanks man. 🙏 It’s a slog to make it look easy - lots of pain in the practice and performance. Really glad you liked it and have fun with the Hog. 🎸

    Sounds great, James! Mine arrives tomorrow!! Did you stay with the Elixar strings?

    • @jamesdtownsend
      @jamesdtownsend  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks so much Stephen. They are fantastic, unputdownable guitars. I did actually change from Elixir 13s to 12s because I found the low E quite hard to press down but I might go back to them (the 12s do lose a little bit of tone/volume). Enjoy your GS Mini!

    Can you make a video of you playing this guitar in Drop C Sharp?

      (Drop C) Sharp intake of breath... not sure I can remember to detune and still play this little ditty...

    Hello , did you use the same strings size as the scale lenght is smaller on this guitar ?

    • @jamesdtownsend
      @jamesdtownsend  Před 2 lety

      Hi! These are factory-fitted 13 - 56 Elixirs so actually slightly thicker than I have on, for example, my Taylor 314 (which as 12s). I found the low E quite thick and the strings quite highly strung so since this video I have swapped to 12s. I guess it's a personal choice. Hope that helps and thanks for listening!

    no offense but this doesnt look KOA, or it was varnished over?

    • @jamesdtownsend
      @jamesdtownsend  Před rokem

      Hi Ryan. No offence taken! It is Koa. It is a Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Plus with a matt finish. What I’ve noticed is that it is hugely variable depending on the quality of the light www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/gs-mini-e-koa-plus

      Its taylor gs mini koa plus, known as "shaded edge burst" finish.. ppl who love natural koa colour normally can't accept this kind of colour. But believe it or not, in the old times, shaded edge burst only can be found in a hi-end taylor guitars, especially builder edition mostly.
      So Taylor is offering us, we can enjoy the cheapest shaded edge burst finish.. on a GS mini.
      When I bought it at the first time, I feel regret and I want to return it and trade for the natural gs mini koa instead. But after long run with this guitar, and browse/learn about Taylor guitars, I started to love this GS mini koa plus, and never regret until now.
      The pick up is amazing, the unplugged sound and the aero case is killer against the other brands. Cant describe it, but you should try by yourself, its not a normal GS minis. Im a collector of many travel guitars, this guitar beats all travel guitars on the market.. martin dread Jr, 000jr shawn mendez, mini maton, cole clark little lady, prs parlor, yamaha csfm, I tried it all and no one cant beat this gs mini koa plus.
