I didn't think we'd see a new record after breaking the magic 1 hour barrier... The level of planning and teamwork needed to organize and achieve this just boggled the mind. Amazing! Congrats to the whole team
100% agree and I'm more than happy to see how guys managed to achieve it. However, your last DW series is amazing, I enjoyed it so much and we still need to clear these 20 hidden chanks ;)
To get done faster you need more production on everything which requires more buildings and more space. More buildings require more crafting materials which requires even more production early on. And more space means more belts required for transportation and also longer walking distances for the players. Additionally as the number of player increases you also get more coordination / communication overhead that slows things down. This multiplayer speed-run has likely also been less practiced and optimized compared to the single player one.
@@vincent78433 The science cost multiplier is a map setting. And since this is any% speedrun they can set all map settings to the most beneficial value which means default science cost.
@@CD4017BE It could probably be done in a more inherently parallelized way - at this point, the MP speedruns are much like the naïve multi-threaded algorithms that try to do the same underlying approach with multiple CPU cores at the same time. It can buy extra performance, but it's taxing on communication overhead and space. I suspect we'll see much bigger improvements once this paradigm gets thrown out and the whole thing gets more decentralised , though there are already hints of that in the more recent MP speedruns :P But of course, yeah. Speedrunning tends to take a lot of practice and doing things over and over. There's a lot of incremental improvements, but doing something relatively revolutionary is even harder in MP :D As non-speedrunners, we tend to get a lot better MP performance compared to SP, simply because we haven't honed the SP performance game quite as far, so we didn't develop nearly as many non-parallelizable algorithms, and much of what we do is trivially parallelizable. The parallels to real-world computing are always fun. For example, the research could easily be done in a completely decentralised way, with no overhead - beyond the fact that you lose the advantage of the starting resource patches, of course, but with these settings it isn't particularly painful. Eight people building the exact same base apart _will_ be able to push the research roughly eight times faster. Running is extremely expensive as you scale out, and busses can't quite keep up either. The next step needs to be figuring out which things can be kept mostly separate from each other to minimize the parallelization overheads. It might be interesting to try a purposefully longer run - like using a 8x multiplier on science or Marathon, and perhaps even requiring the launch of multiple rockets to smooth everything out a bit. We might even see bots in such a speedrun :D
Just yesterday and the day before I started revisiting and getting back into Factorio/Factorio content again and then you put this out. That was a dank run. Congradulations. It had been a while that you or Antielitz put out a video. I hope you both are well and glad to see you still kicking. 👍
Hey Nefrums, I know you only upload when you PB or WR, but I enjoy watching full runs even if it isn't a new record or something. I watch you on Twitch some times but I like the ability to watch runs on my time since they can be hours long at times, and it can be tedious sometimes searching vods for full completed runs since I know you restart often. So that's why I was wondering if you considered uploading more frequently, just of completed runs even if they aren't PB or WR.
It takes inputs from the left and inputs from the right to produce outputs going up while making the left and right sides of each output belt contain different items. For instance, at 36:33 you can see plastic coming in from the left and being split onto one lane of each of the four output belts. It isn't the only way to do this, but it works well this speed run context.
@@wkrh2000 thank you, yes I see now from your example how it works. Intricate, aint't it? I would have used 4 times as much space to accomplish the same, it's clever.
Next Nefrums vs Antielitz race idea: Default settings, you may each reroll as many times as you want, but for every reroll you need to drink a shot of beer
If you press q on a building it’ll select it and let you place it. Also if you make your shortcut bar at the bottom you can use the numbers to select buildings

betcha cant beat your deathworld in under 5 hours.
The lord has spoken
Watch, they’re going to hit 50min in just a couple of months x)
They hunting WR´s ... U hunting Biters :P a lot of them

It's crazy how 8 people can get the time down by "only" 33% compared to single player any%.

i believe there is a multiplier for science cost when you play multiplayer
@@vincent78433 There is not any cost

This is what happens when a group of Germans crashland on an alien planet
love that y'all are not only running this category again but absolutely smashing it! well played!
With which shortcute does he put the source in the furnaces quickly?
The level of coordination is immaculate! Well done!

I also literally just started playing again after years! Such a good time to get back into it!
@@Tokahax Welcome back to the factory brother :)
I love watching these runs live, congrats on the WR!
Amazing run ! still on my 1st playthrough figuring something out. You guys have scaled up 10 time anything i've done so far :p
Amazing. Was fun to watch. Nice work.
Crazy and amazing. All at once! Guys, you're great!
Great run! Congratulations to all!
I'd love to see a video explaining who's on which duty and why during the run, as like a "strategy explanation"
Congratulations!

So much more satisfying than Portal speedruns!
lol, I love the friendly bickering at the end
Is this with seeds and/or mods? Eitherway im watching the whole thing and im gonna enjoy it :D
I could watch you’re videos all day!
amazing to watch
Nice run!!
congrats !
Great work! amazing and entertaining ❤
crazy good stuff!
Wow, that was the fastest factorio run I've ever seen!
This is insane.
This is how i wished group projects went.

I wish I could get through the burner phase that quickly
Damn hell 1 hour!
And here I am, 100 hours spent on a word about half way through, and this guys just beating the game in 1 hour...
i did a speedrun myself, hated it ^^ i love playing with trains and dragging stuff out :) enjoy it mate!

So I'm new to factorio and I wonder how is it that a solo speedrun can be as quick as 1:40 hours but an 8 man team "only" halving the time?
What's the record with as many players as you want?
Just won the game for the first time with a friend, it took 42 hours
damn, it takes me 1h just to get to the 2nd science pack...
49:54 miss 2 pipes to connect crude oil to 2 refinerys
I can do it alone in 9 hours, so I'm almost at their pace !
Amazing. I wish I had the faintest idea what all that spaghetti at 34:35 is about. Clearly its the only way to do something very fast, I wonder what.

German humor is no laughing matter! is what he meant to say.
omg how this guy thinking what and how to build so fast? Its preparation? Or just gaming experience of factorio
Lmaoooo 8 people mustve been logistic hell
Why do you have infinite resources and no biters?
how do you place buildings without even opening your inventory?
