  • In case you missed the news, you can get Tetris: the Grand Master (the first entry in the TGM Series) for just $8 anywhere in the world for Switch and PS4! This is earth shattering news, as TGM fans have waited decades for word on the Japan exclusive and rare arcade classic.

    Dude, seeing TGM come to the Switch and PS4 is a HUGE deal. I've always been interested in TGM since ye old days of watching KevinDDR, Qlex, Kitaru and others doing exhibitions at GDQ, and of course that video of Kevin getting Grand Master rank in Terror Instinct. But the problem with the series was, lack of availability. You couldn't get it on console, the arcade boards are pretty expensive, and if you want to play the games in person, well save up a bunch of money to fly to Japan, or get lucky and find a lone TGM cabinet in the wild. (Side note, I actually did get the chance to play TGM 3 at Ground Kontrol in Portland Oregon...not sure if they have that cab anymore though.)
    So to see TGM FINALLY getting some love and getting official console rereleases is a big deal, not to mention TGM 2 is coming out on June 1! So Pumped! Heres hoping Hamster releases TGM 3 as well!
    Great gameplay as well dude!

    I have no idea what version of Tetris this is and so I've been wondering why this is an arcade archives I have an arcade machine labeled Tetris and the gameplay of it reminds me of the version of Tetris that was on the NES for like a month or something before a Nintendo got it pulled from shelves and put out a different version. Look up tegen tetris to see what im talking about.

      @djjezza Před 3 měsíci

      The TGM series has its roots in Sega Tetris from 1998 (so neither Nintendo or Tengen)
      That game introduced many new mechanics that differentiated it from the other versions and now define this series.
      I’d say the comparison between TGM1 and NES Tetris is that it remains a simpler version that’s more focussed on clean stacking and didn’t have the Sonic Drop mechanic added in TGM2 (which completely changes how you play low gravity levels) or additional hold + 3 piece preview system from TGM3 (which completely changes stacking strategy)

      @@dangunheadachron1603 You seem to be unaware of a number of the mechanics.
      It takes an entire half a second for the piece to stick, no matter how quickly it falls. if you move it over, and the piece goes down a line, this half second timer is reset. It will stick almost instantly on gameboy when the falls peed is as high as it gets there.
      You also get a half second before every piece even comes in to charge up your autorepeat (and that takes a quarter of a second to do or so). this helps you make sure you can move the piece over fast enough for it to not stick on you.
      I can see the game getting frustrating if you aren't aware you can actually do this.
      In this game when it reaches NES kill screen speed, you can keep playing. it ends up falling 20 times faster than that kill screen speed, and you can still keep playing.
