- It was great to catch up with Steve Starling for a wonderful fishing session from the kayaks on Lake Buffalo. The target species was redfin, but nobody ever complains about catching a Murray cod or two as a by-catch for any species.

Such a pleasure and an honour to finally have a fish with Robbie. He reminds me of big Rexy in many ways: what you see is what you get, and he speaks his mind... He's exactly the same person whether the camera is switched on or off. I really respect that. Also a damn good fisho who's just as comfortable with a $60 outfit as a $600 one... But I'm glad he didn't have his video camera rolling when I fell base over apex getting out of his kayak at the end of the day! ;) Glad it was a warm day, too, as I ended up saturated! What a great day with a top bloke on a beautiful piece of water... I'll be baaaaack! :)

Pleasure to watch two great looking Murray Cod - my wife drools every time she sees those redfin thrown back normally I don’t freeze them but got a couple in freezer now.

Hi Robbie, you are probably aware of this, or people have told you already, Redfin can stunt their growth and in many cases can breed by the time they hit 12cm long. The only way of preventing this is by either releasing the bigger models or taking everything in even numbers. If your interested in a sustainable Redfin fishery for the future it would be great to spread awareness of this, great vid, and nice work as always. Cheers

Maaaatttteeee!!!! This vid was fricken epic! Those redfin were going mad! Brilliant Cod!! That reminds me, I've a couple of 75MM Oargee Plow Lures now. 2 purple Size 1 Stump Jumpers and 2 Green Size 2 Stump Jumpers. Hitting the reservoirs here in SA in the next few weeks. Cod, Trout, Redfin, Golden Perch, Silver Perch. I think Myponga has Rainbow Trout 😁 I'm heaps excited!! All I get in the Murray River up this way is big Carp and Redfin (although Redfin is amazing to eat, love it!) Got a couple of little silver perch but that's it. Your vids are teaching me a LOT! Thanks, I appreciate your work 😁🎣 the footage is always awesome! Keep it up 😎 the missus loves your vids too. And fishing with Starlo too, ya lucky bugger haha. All the best 😎🎣🍻🌞

Thanks David. To be honest I'm not sure. My mate Andy left one in my tackle box when I lent him a lure last year. It looked like a tiny redfin.
Seems like in many of your videos there are Redfin, I guess in the colder Victoria they are terribly common. The Redfin appear to flourish in colder waters, being a fish originally from northern Europe. Certainly where I live, NSW, most of them live in the south eastern part of the state, where it's colder. I used to live in a high altitude little town called Uralla, where it was cold most of the year, and I found Redfin were common in the rivers there, as well as the typical carp, which the carp appear to be the most versatile fish and can live in cold or warm water.
Thanks mate. You're spot on about the carp, they tend to be able to survive anywhere, even blackwater events. Yes redfin are prolific in my area. They see, top like clearer water with little pollution.

Hey Clint from memory I think it may have been a fish arrow but I could be wrong. I lent my mate Andy a lure a few days earlier, so he put his plastic in my tackle box and I forgot to give it back. So Starlo used it. Haha
