- In order to rotationally graze we utilize two strands of polywire electric fence to keep our goats in. To do this, we have to train the goats to hot wire. We demonstrate and explain the process in this video.

I’m sure this is due to such a large area - but in my acre pasture it took one hit and mine were well educated.
ALL those "tapes " whether they are round or flat have a major voltage drop and I only used them at gateways and even then only when necessary, I used mostly wire and also I have a ground wire which goes back to electric fence unit, I did not just rely on the "earth " for the return back to the Electric fence unit. I am a retired Dairy Farmer and live in the state of Victoria, Australia.
Hey Ben what's your spacing off the ground, between wires, and top wire height? I'm in the same scenario where I need to simplify my long fence changes, but I'm close enough to neighbors, I cant get LGDs with two strands. Think a guy could run a hot bottom, a neutral middle hooked to the ground rods, and hot top wire to keep goats and dogs in? Love the channel buddy, got any support links or merchandise?

Can you share your experience with training each year's kids to the fence? I had great success with electric fence until untrained kids with their small sizes just slipped through and taught the entire flock to escape.
Oh yes you can see them jumping when they get hit. I need that to keep out whatever or whoever
What kind of fence do you have for the main, pusher? My brother and I had hog panel, big mistake, I was hated because some areas couldn't wedge them out, so had to break out the bolt cutters.

Any tips for goats jumping over electric fencing? Ours have just started and we are at our wits end.
How many volts are you getting when its raining and damp? Also can you show your charger and ground rod set? Thanks
Drainage of voltage is related primarily to weed load on your fence. However, wet conditions will make that weed load worse. With my typical weed load in wet conditions my fence seems to run 5.5 plus. Using 6 joule stafix energizer with 2 ground rods. See my energizer video for more description.
I have been trying this for weeks. I have adjusted the height for my nigerian dwarf goats. They still either jump over or squeeze through. Maybe full size goats are dumber than dwarfs?

Some of the fences in my pastures are woven wire with 6" spacing, and will allow a goat to put their head and horns through, but not back out. By putting the pipe across their horns they cannot put their head in the hole to begin with.

I believe that one is about 48”
How well would an eight strand hi tensile fence spaced (6,12,16,20, 25,30,36,44") work...with no offset? Would this prevent them from jumping through?
They would need to be hot. Perhaps every other hot, and the in betweens tied into your grounding system.
I was told that if you want to test your fence to see if it will hold goats that you take a big drag on a cigarette then blow the smoke on the fence. If the smoke goes through the fence......the fence won't hold. haha
I have a had good luck with that. I had a 5 strain with 2 wire up from ground as a ground. Rest were hot.
I hav started running a ground wire in the middle of my hot wires as well for cattle and it really helps in the dry weather when you are not getting a good ground through the ground and with it in between the hot wires they are going to hit the hot and ground it sure makes them back up quick
Literally the fence fell apart while you were using it, idk how you would trust that
