  • Alexandros Roustemis races a pretty spectacular Ford Sierra Cosworth unit on the Greek Hillclimb Championship.
    With over 400Hp from the Cosworth YB Turbo engine all going to the rear wheels in brutal fashion, this #HillclimbMonster is driven up to the limit of grip and a bit beyond.
    Rejoice in all the Turbo Flutter sound, flames from the side exhaust and some very well controlled drifts from this iconic machine.

    Forget about the time it clocked, this will win first place for "Best sounding" award.

      What is it that causes it? Back pressure from the exhaust?

    • @MrCornholios
      @MrCornholios Před 7 lety +1

      Thats because the air stalls in the intake and turbo when the throttle is closed, then the compressorwheel cuts the air and makes this twitter noises.
      Its called compressor surge correctly.

    • @wraithgard
      @wraithgard Před 7 lety +2

      I wouldn't call it true surge as there's no load on the turbocharger when it happens (very low exhaust flow trying to force the turbine to keep spinning in one direction) as the throttle is closed. Real compressor surge is very destructive to the turbo and happens when the compressor is moving more air than the engine can consume with the throttle fully open, causing surge as the turbo gulps for more air.

    • @MrCornholios

      There is load on the turbocharger as long it turns in one direction.
      You can hear it spins down after closing the throttle every time.
      So its clearly compressor surge.

    • @wraithgard
      @wraithgard Před 7 lety +3

      Its load is from inertial rotation, not the engines exhaust forcing it to spin. They don't compare in terms of how destructive they are. Real surge wrecks turbos, flutter just sounds cool.
