You broke my heart when you showed that BOP bellhousing cut off. Had I had the vision for the deep future I would have taken more TH 400's out of the junk yards when I was pulling big block Olds motors. Back then if you pulled the bolts and hardware you could buy an Olds 455 and TH 400 for $125.00. I think the best thing I ever did was after I found an old 67 Olds 400/400 out of a 442 I was in a junkyard and found a 67 Olds 425/400 and pulled them both incase I needed spare parts for the engine/trans out of the 442 motor. Turns out the 442 trans needed a pump but it was a switch pitch and I had to have that but the spare 67 400 I got had a good one in it. I later found another 67 switch pitch trans and pulled it too.

Thank you Shawn, I've been a follower since the beginning but this is my first time commenting. I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the confidence to tackle my transmission. I have been putting it off for months and it's time do dive in ( 86 2wd Th400) I did a couple about 15 years ago but just basic overhauls and they had no issues. This one has all the goodies stacked next to it, Full manual valve body, steel hub, spirals, 34 element sprag etc.. been very intimidating looking at all those new parts but you are so clear on explaining everything I'm feeling much more at ease with it so thank you! Wish me luck! Haha

@@mountainsgarageShawn! I am taking you up on that offer! 😉 I am using a single stage dump valve on my build.. I am not sure how you feel about those.. my question is by me using the dump valve do I still need to install and drill the grub screw in the pump on the converter feed circuit? Or is the dump valve going to be accomplishing the same thing? Thank you sir!

Thank you so much. I ran across this as I was looking for information on my transmission for my P 30 chassis motorhome. It has a TH 400 but sounds like mine is like yours in this video that may be a 475? It has the parking brake and cable connected to it just like the one in your picture. Seems to run fine but does not kick down and has the electrical connection on it. Speedometer is also reading 5 mph slow.

Hi I have a few questions about speedometer drive gear and driven gear. My wife and I just bought a rebuilt th400 transmission setup for an electric speedometer system. We have a mechanical speedometer system on our Chevelle. I’ve removed the tail end of the transmission already. How do I remove the drive gear from the transmission shaft? Should I pull it off or cut it off? Is there an existing hole on the shaft for the drive gear clip, does it come like that already? Or would it be better to convert to an electric speedometer system? Need help please 🙏🏽🙏🏽

i have the 02xx 400r turbo they have 02xx welded on the bell housing that is the best they build stock u can only buy them as a crate trans but u can find them in trucks and motorhomes from 80's to 2000. gm calls them a strip or heavy applications they are good to 800 hp stock and on the break drum it has bolts no studs it is still the old school casing with no speedo gears just the teeth on the shaft so easy fix. the best part about them i get them for free most have the 450 hp 454 in front of them that would be the type of motor home u want to find that has the upper package with the 450 hp 454 so i would check the paper work on it most will have it with the rig . the engine comes with steel crank heavy rods high flow heads the trans has the heavy duty 8 bolt pump heavy clutches stage one shift kit it is perfect for a street build . i have got 4 setups for free from 6,000 to 58,000 miles on them saves a sh. ton of money on a build to buy it new with everything u get it would cost about 20,000 bucks just the short block is 8000 to buy it from GM. this how i only have 2000 bucks in my 68 chevy pu

I am not a fan of sealer or loctite in that area in stock form. With an aftermarket bellhousing I do put a small amount under the head of the bolt. A tiny bit of loctite on the threads is OK but don’t get carried away!
