    I’ve watched a ton of your TH400 build videos and you have made a once impossible task of rebuilding a transmission seem completely possible to me.

    Every time I come back and watch a video, I pick up a little something I missed the first go around... Thanks again!

    That was a good call on your part to film this procedure. It doesn’t need to be done every time (as you know) That’s one of the best things your style lends to these videos. Thanks again. Great content this week

    Thanks Shawn for doing these videos, I've always been apprehensive to go inside, but you are giving me confidence to give it a try.

    Thanks Again!
    Pin came right out like you said and I drove the rear bushing in another .030".
    Friday I got everything in up to the case saver.
    Cheers!

    What tolerance do you recommend for the reaction carrier float/thrust?

    I purchased the ATSG book and they reference a rear reaction drum spacer, should all th 400 transmission have them. When I took mine apart I do not have one installed. It seems as the low roller clutch assy sits on that ledge.

    Hi Shawn. I heard you talk about the sonnax shims for the lower planetary set. Have you ever had a need to use them? I have never seen or heard of anyone using them. I'm not saying they're not needed, but have you ever seen or felt the need?

    Shawn, i am this stage and my output shaft doesn’t spin both directions, is that normal or should i be looking for something wrong?

    I have the chance to by a core 4l80e for a 100 bucks. Not sure if it’s the early type or late type. He said it needs rebuilt. Is it worth it to buy it? I’m building a turbo ls 6.0. I’m not sure what’s wrong with it.

    Do you have any guidance on a reaction carrier surface condition or how to better it. I have scores on mine that I can catch by my thumb nail?

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  Před rokem +1

      It is normal to have spiral grooves and a rough appearance. I will post a picture.

    Need help. I've done a few th400s with no problems. Now, the one I'm doing, I can't get the lower gear train to have any clearance. Spins good, with center support bolt in, then when I put beveled snap ring in, it won't spin at all.
    Any ideas?

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  Před 2 lety

      Either the thrust bearing is too tight at the bottom of the case, or washer if that is what you have. That is my guess if the lower unit is together proper.

    • @funfun8095
      @funfun8095 Před 2 lety

      @@mountainsgarage Has number 2 tang washer and all is together correctly. I have the thinnest washers in, too. Bearings are correct, too. Wondering if center support and front planet aren't happy together. With a 4l80 center support, it works, but can't use that, from late model 80. SMH
      I'm about to tear another 400 down and go from there. Ugh!

    Do the th475’s come with a 34 element sprag stock

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  Před 10 měsíci

      They usually have a smooth direct drum with a 16 element sprag. A 34 element is a direct replacement on the same drum.

  • @dumpsterpat
    @dumpsterpat Před 2 lety +1

    Maybe I missed it but I didn't see you put the plastic oil seal in reaction carrier.

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  Před 2 lety +2

      It’s is a silencer ring according to GM, and I have never found one in a TH475. GM stopped using them in the 4L80E as well.
      It has no sealing ability. Thanks for watching!

      @@mountainsgarage I see, thx for the knowledge. Someone somewhere passed that on to me and I always thought it was false but I still put it in. I'll try leaving it out on the next one. Appreciate the videos, I've love the detail in this most recent series. Thanks!
