    Ben, nice video and GORGEOUS reduction drive. In addition to LocTite on the key, an oversized washer should be installed over the shaft and secured with a retaining bolt, washer and lock washer at the end of the threaded crankshaft. You DEFINITELY don’t want ANYTHING going through the propeller, as you mentioned. Nice job!!!

    And second question why we dont screw the propeller straight with the engine shaft. Why we put a pulley and belt . I feel in that way we lose some rotation because the engine small pulley has to rotate twice to get a full rotation in the propeller pulley which is twice the size .

    • @LoneStarHovercraft
      @LoneStarHovercraft  Před 6 lety +1

      Some people do mount the propeller directly on the engine shaft, but with a larger propeller this exceeds the maximum rated speed of the propeller. By reducing the speed, you can swing a much larger propeller, which gives you more static thrust.

    is it appropriate? if it's not what should be? because mine is not powerfull. thank you for in advance.

    @readmore7180 Před 5 lety +1

    Looks nice. I do have a question though as I'm a bit confused with the reason of the reduction drives I see fitted to these engines. These engines have a stock output rpm of 3600 which in itself isn't too high for a prop, ( well upto a point) so why do people take the governor out to raise the rpm only to fit a reduction drives to slow it back down again? Ive struggled finding the reason

    • @LoneStarHovercraft
      @LoneStarHovercraft  Před 5 lety +2

      Some people do run direct drive propellers on these engines, and it works well for certain applications. But generally a larger diameter propeller produces more static thrust, which is what you're after on slow moving craft like airboats and hovercraft (slow compared to aircraft, where prop selection is more complicated). So a reduction drive reduces your output speed, which means you can swing a larger diameter propeller on the same engine and get more static thrust. And removing the governor lets you rev the engine higher, getting more power assuming the valves and carb are set up right. So with the reduction drive, you can still turn a large propeller even when over-revving the engine. Hope this helps.

      I'm a little new at this also, but by reducing the rotation of the prop by 50% and increasing the pitch of the prop , You get less vibration and noise and also increase the performance and thrust.

    • @LoneStarHovercraft
      @LoneStarHovercraft  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you! This exact version won't fit a 33 hp B&S but we have a similar one with a cogged belt that will. The reduction drive that will fit a Briggs 33 hp engine weighs about 16 lbs. If you have any other questions, feel free to send us an email: info@lonestarhovercraft.com

    • @LoneStarHovercraft
      @LoneStarHovercraft  Před 6 lety

      Juan Reimer sure, the reduction drive weighs 12 lbs and is suitable for a trike. With a 59" propeller you'll get around 150-160 lbs of static thrust.
