My mother used to sing this one to me, and "Gentle Jesus, meek and mild". I was still so tiny that I had no idea what "bidsusshine" could mean, or indeed "fain-I-ward" (as I heard it) in the other lullaby. The word "lullaby" makes a referece to "banishing Lilith" (Lilith being the first female evil spirit) Years later I understood some of this, but only decades later (2.5 years ago) was I Born Again and able to see a whole lot more. But the seed was planted very early - thanks, mum!
Learned this song in Jamaica as a young child. Now I’m 48 years old.
Learned this song at school . I'm 60 now still love it .
Reminds me of Sunday school 70+ years ago, I don't think I've heard it sung since then, but it reflects the posture of my heart.
😃
Eric Clapton's favorite childhood hymn. I can almost smell the pews and hymnals listening to this great song.
