Listening this song from a hospital cabin. My wife delivered our 2nd baby amid the coronavirus resurgence in Mizoram. Its amazing how the Lord abides with us. When befallen by difficulties and we thought our plans have failed, He makes us see that His ways are better than ours'. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

I remember after a particularly rough day, after my husband died, I fell to my knees, crying and singing this song. Somehow it gave me the strength to get back up. Very grateful for that.

The Lord will abide in life and in death. I too lost my Mum this year, 10 mths ago. I am still in pain when I think of the moments of her passing. But this hymn describes that when earth's pain ebbs away, Heaven's morning breaks. We say goodbye, but there is a grand welcoming ceremony over there.

My favorite song. Forever. My mother would sing this as a lullaby & I would fall asleep in a few minutes.. I now know why she would sing it.. looking back.. I miss her. Life is difficult but God is always faithful.

My wife passed away in May of 2020 and everyday without her has been an enormous struggle. Wife, best friend, confidante, soul mate, life partner, she was everything to me and she died so young and unexpectedly. Life is without joy, love and peace and I do not feel any sense of purpose or meaning.
Listening to this hymn now made me weep bitterly. All the memories of my sweetheart came flooding back however the assurance that the Father is always with us and pointed to the sky and called her home when she closed her eyes on earth for the last time and opened them in Paradise for the first time, strengthens me. I am a Catholic, who was once lost after walking the wrong way. I fell into temptation and carried many mortal sins on my back. It left me with nothingness, no where to go to. My depression became very severe in March 2022 and I gave myself room to heal. It felt awkward as a Catholic since I once thought of leaving God for a hedonistic life. I was drowned in shame, a little bit like Judas, but in the end, a few unfortunate events in life caused me to seek refuge in God's arms. My God's arms, and no other.
It was during my darkest hours, Lord Jesus appeared before me in my dreams. I cried. As I am writing this, I realised how wrong I was to leave in the first place, when my Lord had never forsaken me.
I want to return to God. I want to rely on my Lord Jesus again. Everything that I have been through, I don't have the energy to carry that burden alone. I don't have the strength to carry my sins. I need Jesus to hold my hands and open my blind eyes so I can trust him again.
I am coming back, Father. Your servant faithfully follows you from now on.

I don't know why this made me CRY, I was travelling in the college bus, and in my deep loneliness in my mind it made me realise the LOVE OF GOD. I pretended to yawn in the bus to do not let my friends know that I was CRYING.

I lost my father on Christmas Eve, save to say it will never be the same. However, he had faith in Jesus Christ and I know he is now experiencing bliss we here on Earth can’t even imagine. The midnight my wife died, I sang Abide with me more than 40 times before daybreak. I wept all through the night and could not be consoled. My toughest experience in life.

My best friend died from cancer in july. He was such an important person to me and still is. I miss him more and more and each day. We went through highs and lows, he was always by my side, no matter what. He would do anything to make me happy, to make me feel safe. I played this version at his funeral. I hope that grief will get better someday. I will never ever forget him and will always love him.

2 years ago I suffered severe anxiety and depression so much that I wished and prayed for death at all time, and had suicidal thoughts as well. I heard this song playing over the radio, and that was the beginning of my life changing encounter with God. He abides with us always no matter the situation.

(Edited, please see the new paragraph) I'm not religious, but this song means a lot to me. It's always played at the Challenge Cup Rugby League final, and my Grandad always used to stand and sing it, and now he cant due to Alzheimers, so I learned to sing it for him.
So, unfortunately my grandfather passed away this year thanks to the Coronavirus. This song, though not this version, was played at his funeral. I sang with eyes filled with tears. I just want to say thanks to everyone who posted nice replies to this comment. Even if I dont share your faith, your kind words really touched me. Thank you.

My beautiful mum adored this hymn and told me repeatedly, many years ago, it was her favourite and that she wanted it to be played at her funeral.
She sadly passed away last week, and upon looking for a version befitting of the occasion and the lovely gentle soul she was, I found this, Audrey's incredible recording. It will be played at the funeral next week, and I cannot be more thankful to have found it. Mum would have thought this was perfection. Thank you.

This is beautiful and is helping me through my grandmother’s death. She made it to the age of 95 and was in good health until the last year or so of her life, so I am grateful for that but it doesn’t stop it being really hard. I was very close to her and she was a friend to me as well as my grandmother. I will always love you Granny. ❤

This has always been a favourite hymn of mine. It means more to me now since my dad passed away a couple of weeks ago. I am a full grown adult and I feel so helpless. It seemed like nothing could bring him down. Until a freak accident where he fell off his bike took him from us. I hurt when I dwell on it. I think that will keep happening for a while yet. But I find myself singing this song when I'm at my lowest and somehow I can pull through for one more minute, one more hour, one more day. I'm glad to know it. Thank you for posting.

@@franmorrison1080 Jesus is returning and will bring peace, but it's dangerous to emphasise that over the fact that Antichrist will come and decieve the world with false peace and safety first. Revelation says that the overwhelming majority of the earth's population will have been killed by then, and that without His return cutting short the time of the Tribulation the entire human race would have been wiped out. Additionally, Jesus is bringing eternal peace only to those who know Him and accept Him as their savior but He's not returning as an amazing world-leader who will bring political, cultural and religious unity and peace - that's what the Antichrist will do, before letting everyone know that they've been tricked and he's out to kill, steal and destroy.

What is sad in it? Why India should carry its colonial era things going forward..

I love this hymn..because every night before I sleep I sing this hymn to invite the saviour to come and abide with me and my children..it is an invitation to the Lord to watch over us as we sleep and to stay with us...
I love this song. I love it, even more, when I play it at 0.75 speed. The richness of Audrey's voice and the mercy of the Lord just washes over me.
This hymn was sung at my sister’s funeral and it gives me such comfort. She drowned in the ocean and when she was helpless in fighting the waves the Lord abided with her and gently guided her to her eternal home.

I'm an Indian Christian. Very sad to know that this beautiful hymn is dropped from being played at *Beating the Retreat* ceremony by the Indian Armed forces this year. Yet I'm glad to know that the Lord abides with me.

My grandmother, whose name is also Audrey is about to pass away. I can not be there by her bed because of the world’s situation. My grandmother was a devout Anglican for her 93 years on earth, and this was one of her favourite hymns that we will sing at her funeral service. I don’t mean to be tacky to mention this, but I am not religious, and so I didn’t know the song but came here to practice it so I can sing as clearly and surely as possible for her. The performance of this song is so beautiful it moved me to tears singing it. Thank you for such a stunning recording. Thank you to anyone who reads this. Every day we have on Earth is truly a gift.
