  • What makes it possible for turbocharged and naturally-aspirated hybrid IMSA GTP internal combustion engines to fight on equal terms at a tight street course like Long Beach? It's all about the hybrid powerplants and their super power: Torque Fill.
    We interview Porsche Penske Motorsport's Managing Director, Jonathan Duiguid, as well as factory driver Nick Tandy on the subject.

    I really like how IMSA developed the ruleset for these GTP cars. Using the hybrid to fill in a torque curve, rather than increase the power/torque outright is something I had never thought of. I think it really suits multiclass and endurance racing, and allows the differences between the manufacturers to shine.

      It's not really an IMSA ruleset, more a WEC ruleset that IMSA adopted.

    This is fascinating and filled in a knowledge gap for me. I remember Penske #6 getting whacked twice at Daytona 24 due to torque sensors. Now l understand what was going on.

      The torque sensors are required by the regulations. If they don't work you're not allowed to run.

      @@StuntpilootStef Yes l know. It was Toyota who had one stop working, l think it was at Sebring. Just nice to have some finer detail.

      Yeah, agreed. There are so many iconic American tracks.
      I understand the safety reasons for not racing on them, but I would do alot to see a race with the modern cars around Watkins Glen.

      Please explain the difference between WEC and IMSA? Because it's in the details. Both are hypercars. If one organisation makes a different rule within the smallest detail, of what is what..and by that rule you have to build a car...??? Being a racing fan, we can't point out the difference. If you ask? F1 or hypercar? I would say F1. Because with the rules of building a F1 car, they know the limit of the rules they make. No one knows, the limit of the hypercar. I would like to see the ultimatum limit of the hypercar. But if you want to race hypercars? Fairplay. For all the teams building one. Fairplay. For all the divers, Fairplay. Like you can't point out the difference between WEC and IMSA. Both are searching for the limit

    Or just drive it like you’re supposed to drive a turbo car and keep the RPMs up…

  • @giovannibalsamo6178
    @giovannibalsamo6178 Před měsícem +1

    hope to don't be wrong but all what is told in the video would be exact IF there wasn't a mandatory power curve... no matter if a gtp is powered 100% from ICE or in hybrid mode, in both cases it must follow a power curve dictated by bop where each rpm interval can't go over a certain fixed power output. A fixed power curve is strictly tied to a fixed torque curve as well. so it's not the ERS is delivering extra torque, it just compensates the torque loss of the ICE when the ERS is activated in order to stick to that mandatory power curve.
