--------
Vlad and Aries Spears discussed M.C. Hammer's impact on the rap industry, highlighting how his swift rise to fame and perceived "gangster" persona belied his roots in the "hood." Underneath his commercial success, they highlighted his toughness, citing conflicts with other rappers and instances of Hammer standing his ground. Notably, they brought up a story from Redman, where the rapper mentioned Hammer and felt his wrath firsthand.
Vlad and Aries also discussed the backlash Hammer faced for his mainstream success, bringing up a famous Paul Mooney joke about Hammer "dancing for chicken" in reference to a KFC deal. Aries argued this criticism was hypocritical since many hardcore rappers wanted to achieve the same mainstream success that Hammer did. Towards the end of the conversation, they noted how rappers like Ice Cube have softened over the years, moving towards comedy and other less "gangster" outlets, much like Hammer had done earlier in his career. - Zábava
I'll never forget how shocked I was to find out that Hammer was running up and G-checking so many of these 'gangster' rappers that took shots at him because they felt he was an easy target. Just goes to show that you shouldn't make assumptions about people.
It's a reason why we fooled with him.
He checked studio gangstas name 1 real actual gangsta rapper that put in work and stand on business he ran up on? Prolly cant name any cos majority of the rappers in the ‘90s was posers

That Redman interview about MC Hammer will be forever be funny af!
"I said yes sir." *LOL!*
I randomly briefly met Mr. MC Hammer in San Jose ~2018. He was a beyond polite gentleman.
Outkast told people years ago. If you think Hammer is soft run up on him. They knew Hammer wasn't to be played with.
"There's money in smiling" 💯💯💯
I still remember the MC Hammer cartoon. You know you mainstream when they give a black dude a damn cartoon.
“With the bootleg t-shirt of the month U Can’t Touch This on the front”-Ice Cube. I can understand the criticisms thrown Hammer’s way back then but at the same time if the so called “real Hip Hop” crowd of rappers could sell 10 million albums being themselves, they wouldn’t be complaining. I think jealousy’s a good word because not even 20 years in of Hip Hop, nobody knew just how BIG it could all be. It really was Hammer Mania back in the day. Dude had his own CARTOON. He had his own toy made by Mattel which I have mine to this day. Hammer showed ALL of us where this Hip Hop thing could really take you. Hammer’s downfall was trying to help the city of Oakland when it was OAKLAND’S job to save the city of Oakland. Salute to Hammer.
That True To The Game video was a direct insult towards Hammer. Ice Cube wrote a letter to the Source magazine swearing by "the name of Allah" he wasn't dissing him. We all knew that was bullshit.
im trying to figure out how thats a diss. In that era there was always some t-shirts with this weeks saying for sell. If anything it sounds like he's saying u cant touch this was so popular the bootleg man was selling t shirts with it on it. Shit my momma used to have all kind of those shirts back then, like ones that said whoop there it is etc.
There goes the neighborhood
Bro even had a staurday morning cartoon.....Hammer!! HAMMERMAN!! Hammer!! HAMMERMAN!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Unless you were alive at that time you don't know how huge MC Hammer was. He was on top of the game
One of my older homeboys(he’s 47) told me the same thing. I’m 35 so I mostly remember the MC Hammer slander and jokes more than anything. But my homeboy pretty much explained that Hammer was Hip-Hop’s first MEGA star. Damn shame how the culture turned on him.
Never heard MC hammer outside of jokes and I'm 25
@@MarkHallOfFame I hear you but you can’t do that “Pumps and a Bump” video and not expect backlash 😂
@@TAPATIOPLEASEI’m 32 and even though he was joked on b4 that he was HUGE!!
I remember he wanted to have a dance off with Michael Jackson...lol
Redman and MC Serch's interviews about Hammer are hilarious.
When I was a kid, buying RAP tapes with my dad, he would always show me MC HAMMER tapes, didn't want me buying the stuff with the Parental Advisory on it. Later on im realizing HAMMER had a whole extra audience simply because of that.
This generation is so focused on trying to ruin people legacy lol. One second being hood and street is "corny" then the next second if you not hood or street then "you ain't shit"... pick a side
For real, like pick a lane and stick with it, please.😂🤣

For real it's crazy how people change their stance based on how much they like a person
True the olds days every jerk didn’t have a say in everything
That would be COMEDY GOLD if somebody made the Mc Hammer thing into a skit😂😂.
where is dave chapelle when you need him
I always liked Hammer since the beginning!! All the rappers who dissed him and later did what he did should apologize to Hammer because he was the trendsetter in all the business deals he has and now all these so called hard rappers do the same thing and act never bring up the fact that they did the same thing just at a later date when their music wasn’t selling as much any more!
Tribe dissed Hammer, so did 3rd Base. All kinds of rappers thought Hammer was weak, fair or foul.
They thought he was a gimmick rapper. Kid n Play , Young MC, Sir Mix alot, and Will Smith all had similar "radio friendly " songs and images back then and nobody ever came at them. But hammer was seen as an entertainer more than a rapper. Meaning if its not a show then nobody is interested in hammer. You dont want a freestyle, a chiper, a video nothing. You just want to see his stage preformance because of the choreography and pyro technics
@@elijaharvinger1178 Luke went at Kid N Play, but Kid N Play kinda started it
CL Smooth also dissed Hammer
@@elijaharvinger1178 A lot of people dissed Will Smith actually tbh. But still, your point is very correct
What we think about Hammer bluuuuh gas face
They clowned Hammer and said he sold out

Eazy did a parody of MC Hammer in DOC’s video for The Formula. A guy who named MC Mallet and was auditioning as a whack rapper. But Eazy had a g-pass so Hammer never messed with him.

Hammer and Eazy became cool. It's photos of them together. Hammer did a whole dedication to Eazy after his death. Hell even hammer best friend 2pac dissed him early on on a talk show, you can find the video on CZcams, but him and Pac became bestfriends later on. Back then a lot of people had something to say about Hammer who didn't really know him like that.
It wasn’t just gangsta rappers. Pure rappers, conscious rappers, they all made fun of him.
Exactly ppl are fucking f a q s for thinkin Ice Cube is jealous😂 bro go listen to No Vaseline
Hammer sorta killed dancing in hip hop... he had his big break in '89/'90 when dancing was everywhere in hip hop... after he blew up and heads labeled him as corny, nobody wanted to dance anymore... that's probably why in the early '90s, hip hop really branched off between gangsta and conscious rap.
Yeah East coast and west coast B-boys dissed hammer all the time and West coast Underground MC’s didn’t like Cube either tbh. Cube bit Not only Das Efx’s flow, he bit Volume 10. Go listen to pistol grip pump again and Volume 10 dissed cube for biting his hip hopera flow
All brothas from the street made fun of him

I shook Hammers hand in Chicago's Ohare airport back in '97. He damn near took my arm off.
That Paul Mooney album was classic
Never forget Pumps and a Bump!
Hammer was a real gangster he was even basically the GM of the Oakland A's the man is a legend.
Hammer a real street dude and his family is real street real west Oakland we from the same hood the Burrells solid
Vlad asked Aries if he heard the stories and Aries said yes, Vlad still proceeded to tell him the stories anyways. Smh
That Was back before hip-hop went corporate.. It was still OUR'S back then.. Rap music was definitely not ready to go corporate At All.. And that's where Hammer got most of the backlash.. Because the knowledge and afrocentric presence in rap records was still prevalent.. And Anti Crossover..
Dancing is a pillar of Hip Hop shows how ignorant a lot rappers are.
I didn't sense one ounce of Jealousy in Cube's 'Be True To The Game.'

MC Hammer is arguably the best dancer of all time, the way he used to do the running man then do spins to a split then back to the running man in them parachute pants was second to none, he’s a top 3 entertainer all time in my opinion
hammer was the FIRST 2 do a lot of things...that brought a ton of jealousy from other rappers & people in general...
Lol meanwhile every time you turn around you see Snoop Dogg rappin on a commercial smh
Yeah, because back in the day, hip-hop fans didn’t like anyone so-called “Selling Out” i.e. commercials of any sort. Secondly, both MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were considered wack amongst rap fans who were into Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, The Pharcyde, Nice & Smooth, and X Clan to name a few.
Facts
@@James_WillowI’ll grant you MC Hammer had popular albums , I’m referring to artistry. No one in my circle who listened to the artists I mentioned, bought MC Hammer and definitely not Vanilla Ice.
@@uwillbe Facts. His shit went diamond cuz white people bought it. Back then, that was corny. All this proves that Vlad is an idiot and was never a real hip hop head. Mofo worships whoever is "popping." Artistry doesn't register with him AT ALL.
Both Vanilla Ice & MC Hammer got made fun of by the skit show. In Living Color
@@blunt2416 Yep, I remember those skits, they were hilarious! Both rappers were seen as a joke amongst hardcore hip-hop fans. I’m not hating on their success, I just didn’t take either rapper seriously, compared to the artists I mentioned.
Anyone from CA know the Hammer stories and he has never been the one to be fucked wit. Those 30 dancers he employed wasn't no ballerinas outside of the videos let's be clear. Hammer basically rolled around with a football team of real dudes. Don't let the parachute pants fool you

Isn't it really a matter of hardcore rap taking shots at non-hardcore rap and Hammer being the most available target? The time is important too. This was the most hardcore period of hip hop, where the more hardcore, anti-police, edgy lyrical thing was in fashion. So when you have the most popular rapper in the world being someone 15 year old girls wanna go see in that late 80's/early 90's period, it's easy to see why he'd catch heat and it not really be a jealousy thing. And the dudes taking shots at Hammer wouldn't do it today, but they did it back then because they were 19 and 20 years old and into talking mad sht on wax.
Most of them were jealous. Musicians, like any artist, crave the spotlight and recognition. MC hammer outshined them by not following their stupid rules and they caught feelings.
Thank you 🙏🏽 Nothing to do with Jealousy. We just thought Hammer was corny like Vanilla Ice
@@moloperamsYeah not really true. Hammer was seen a gimmick and not a real MC. There's a reason nobody came for Kid n Play or Young MC or any other "non gangster" rapper back then. Because they weren't seen as gimmicks.
@@elijaharvinger1178 people are weird. People like ice cube pretended to be gangster but people didn't think they're corny but mc hammer was thought to be corny/gimmicks . How does that make sense?
@@moloperams No, it wasn't that... "keep it real" was a thing in hip hop for a long time. They despised sell-outs because they protected the integrity hip hop. The first rappers were some real heads down for the culture... A lot of them were out in the parks in the '70s and early '80s... b-boying, DJing, rappin' and graf writing. They weren't businessmen, which is why most of them got finessed by their labels. They didn't want to see hip hop go the way of jazz and rock n' roll. They wanted it to remain pure, street, and black.

You can’t let the funny pants fool you. Hammer was a monster from what they say.
Even back then, it infuriated me how the hip hop community turned on Hammer. Possibly the only rapper in history other than Trick Daddy to give back to his community. Till this day Hammer is a hero of mine. Nothing but respect to that brilliant, beautiful, brother.
Not sure to many people were aware of that at the time, it was just like a it of fun I had no idea hammer was even a G like that until years later but the music I still think was wack, for the mainstream not a serious hip hop head

Vlad let's get Stanley on the show!!!!
MC Hammer was huge back in the day. But the chicken commercials are pure comedy. The chicken commercials he did would get you clowned no matter which genre of music or race you are…Every single genre of music clowns artists that become too commercial, just take it as a badge of honor or exit the game.
There’s not such a thing as underground rappers or artiest in general deep down they all want to be heard and play in big venues
Aries's side eye on the thumbnail made me click 😂
Wasn’t jealousy, it was fear. Fear of HipHop becoming… well…… becoming exactly what it is today: Hyper commercialized with no lyrical skills. YES there are some popping rappers with skills. But Now HipHop is no longer rebellious or counter-culture. And You have cornball rappers who say shxt like Young Thug, “Thank God for slavery.” And Lil Wayne, “Racism doesn’t exist.” Even though he mis-uses on BS like praising SHitler, this is part of why KanYe West is such a massive entity. He represents that counter-culture rebellious element in a way that rappers have not for a Long time. Plus his wild artistic nature and creativity. That part is a similar energy to founders like Rammellzee.
Even someone who is consider mega-corporate, like JayZ. This is a Man who told students to all walk out of schools and refuse to go back until New York agrees to Not cut funding for Art and Music in schools. And told every rapper they BETTER show up to time square for the protest or the culture ain’t f*ckin with them. And they did show up. ALL generations. This is a Man who sparred with the government over showing love to Cuba and was almost indicted for it. Compare that to today’s biggest artists… Drake would NEVER. Even Kendrick, could never. Even J Cole, could Never. The younger generations still have skill, but they don’t have the rebellious, counter-culture essence that made HipHop have that edginess. The West Coast especially was selling mega-platinum because of the edginess and don’t-give-f*ckness about it. Even though… ironically, with the exception of 2pac alot of them are also a part of the dumbing down of HipHop. And I love ALL those guys. For example, Dr. Dre was dissing the conscious rappers and positive Black content. Even Ice Cube was dissing rappers who show love to the motherland, even though he was basically saved career wise by Public Enemy’s producers, Eric “Vietnam” Sadler and ‘nem
