    ** noting a few MINOR CORRECTIONS to what I said in some places, as I'm too lazy to re-shoot the video:
    -- the iPhone 15 will likely have a USB port; not the iPhone 14. (Iphone 14 is already out and has with just lightning still)
    -- I might have mentioned the adapter I was using had a USB port -- it has actually a lightning port for charging, and a lightning connector for your iPhone -- it does not have USB. I simply misspoke. :P
    -- There might be some less expensive apps that support direct USB with an app install, as I haven't actually bothered to check. An adapter is still pretty cheap in most cases either way.

    Nice, I will try using it in a PoE network, try with a PoE-USB-C adapter before the ethernet dongle so it can also provide power without need of an external charger.

    Why does this need to go through ethernet rather than directly connecting to the computer?

    • @steve_seguin
      @steve_seguin  Před 6 měsíci

      VDO.Ninja transports data over networks (UDP), and so you'll need a network connection for it to work. No other mode is offered.
      It is possible to create a network connection by attaching the phone via USB directly, but it will probably than use your phone's data for everything, or it will require installing software on your computer for reverse tethering, which isn't something most phones support.
      So other than being much easier, Ethernet also allows you have to longer range, as a USB cable only usually works up to 6 to 10 feet of the host computer, while Ethernet can work anywhere really.
      If you want to try connecting directly to the computer, it's something you can try, however it's too complicated of an approach for me to offer support with.

    Hello
    I am a newbie in VDO.NINJA and OBS. I managed to connect my (older) Android smartphones with the VDO.NINJ app via Wifi to OBS by opening the URL's of the smartphones in Browser inputs in OBS. Do I still have to enter the same URLs in OBS if I use the Ethernet cables?
    regards Peter

    • @steve_seguin
      @steve_seguin  Před 5 dny

      Ethernet will be the exact same as Wifi, except it will be more stable.

    Thanks for te great video Steve. I just tried this with LG Velvet and Ugreen Gigabit USB-C hub and it worked perfectly. The insternet speed in this wired setup in the phone is 300mbps limited by my ISP but since the streaming is local I assume the limit would be 1000Mbps?

    • @steve_seguin
      @steve_seguin  Před rokem

      My budget 100-mbps dongle got 97-mbps, so I presume your 1000-mbps dongle might get close to 1000-mbps.
      That said, USB 2.0 is limited to 480-mbps, so if the dongle or connection is a USB 2.0 device, you might only get halfway to 1000-mbps. I'd imagine your dongle and phone are connecting via USB 3.x though..
      I'm not 100% sure.

      @@steve_seguin I tested with iperf3 server running on my desktop and client from phone while wired to the router and the speed is Gigabit (935Mbps max). Then probably as you said, the phone and dongle Type-C connection is USB3.0 not 2.0. Wih wireless AC1200 I am getting 298Mbps in iperf3

    Stivi, help me D: I want to use my android as webcam with vdo ninja, the thing is I want to keep using my phone normally while having vdoninja in the background, but android doesnt let an app use the camera while its in the background... how can I bypass this? The best solution I've found is to use a browser and convert it into a floating window, yes it's small but still takes screen space, help help help.

    Good Day. When using iphones or ipads. i notice them trying to auto focus. Is there a solution to stop this? Thank You

    • @steve_seguin
      @steve_seguin  Před 9 měsíci

      In browser, Apple does not yet provide options to control focus. It is supported in browser on Androids though.
      I've managed to get zoom in/out I think working in the native VDO.Ninja app for iOS however, and I'll likely have focus or/and exposure controls added there in the coming months.

      Using VDO.Ninja, and then adding the view it provides to an OBS browser source.
      This video assumes you are a VDO.Ninja user already, apologies. It's free to use of course though.
