    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Kala Laka, thank you so much for watching my video.💕 Yes, you can seal air dry clay jewelry with an 'air dry clay sealant', such as this one by Padico.www.etsy.com/listing/920163371/padico-gloss-finish-100ml-waterproof?ref=shop_home_active_2&crt=1
      It comes in a gloss or matte finish in a waterproof version. It's an awesome sealant, which I love to use on my clay pins. The reason I use a UV/LED resin on my air dry clay rings, is because rings get banged around a lot and I wanted to make sure they don't break (I use 2 coats of UV/LED resin to make them nice and hard). This particular clay does dry really durable - but like all air dry clay, it has to be made waterproof, so that if the ring gets wet, the clay doesn't get soft again, from the moisture. If you are careful with your rings, you can make them waterproof with the sealant I listed above and then you don't have to mess with UV/LED resin.😊Jazzy

    Hi! can we use Clear Nail polish instead of the resin coating?? Are there similar results? Thanks

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +7

      Hello sahana ganesh, thank you for watching my video and thank you for your question.💕 Yes, you can use clear nail polish on this air dry clay instead of resin. The reason I use UV/LED resin is to make the rings hard and durable and also waterproof. With Clear nail polish, depending on the brand, you may have to apply several coats (drying well in between coats) - this will help to harden the clay (make sure to wait for the clay to be VERY dry before coating). Several nice coatings of clear nail polish will make your rings waterproof. You may, from time-to-time, have to reapply a coat of nail polish, in case it chips off from wear. Some clear nail polishes may yellow over time. Great question! Happy Creating! 😊Jazzy

    @carolinagalera4155 Před 3 lety +1

    hi! im carol! youre are so good with the details! perfect! i cant buy a uv machine, can i seal it with regular resin, that dries on its on? do you think it will create bubbles if i do that? vernish is not good enough to make it shinny and more resistent?

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Carol, thank you so much for watching and thank you for your kind comments. I think a regular resin (2-part epoxy resin that air dries in approx. 24 hours) may be difficult to use, as it will drip off the ring while curing. You can try to brush on regular resin, slowly in very thin coats to prevent dripping. If you work slowly, then bubbles should not form - it they do, you can pop them with a toothpick.
      This particular clay is quite strong when dry but as with ALL air dry clays, it needs to be made waterproof. If you do not have access to a UV lamp, you can try Mod Podge in the Waterproof/Outdoor sealant type. I have not tried that type of Mod Podge yet, so I would still take the rings off before washing hands, showering or swimming (so they do not get wet) in case you miss a spot while sealing (several coats is a good idea).
      You may also want to experiment with clear nail polish on the air dry clay. Nail polish over time will chip off, so you would need to re-coat it from time-to-time. I would suggest testing out a small piece of dried clay, then using clear nail polish and let it sit for awhile to make sure the nail polish doesn't react with the clay that you are using. Happy Creating! 😊Jazzy

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Kayla, thank you for watching my video. 💕 Yes, You definitely could use Mod Podge. There are lots of products on the markets that can coat clays (some do Not work with polymer clay, but Do work with air dry clay). Mod Podge and varnish are sort of different. Most 'true' varnishes are water-proof, where the 'original' Mod Podge is only water-resistant. Mod-Podge, however, did come out with a dishwasher safe Mod Podge and an outdoor Mod Podge. So, if you are looking for water-proofing your items like rings, those formulas may be good to test out. Mod Podge will Not crack this clay. Apply in thin layers (maybe 2-3 coats). While Mod Podge is a great coating, it does not add a great deal of strength to a jewelry piece like UV resin does. This particular clay, when allowed to dry properly is quite hard - but does need to be waterproofed if it's going to get wet. I always recommend taking air-dry clay rings off before washing hands or showering, even after it's been coated with a sealant. Yikes, long answer 😜 Jazzy

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jhanna Cassandra, thank you so much for your kind comment and thank you for watching my video. 💕 Yes, parchment paper will work as an alternative for the presso sheets. You may want to double the sheets, to make it a bit thicker, as the moisture from the clay will cause the parchment paper to wrinkle. Or put a sheet of parchment paper on top of a piece of thin cardboard.
      If you have a clear file folders (the kind that go in a 3-ring binder that are sold in office supply stores - sometimes used to display photos) - those will work great. You can cut them open or cut them smaller and you will have instant presso sheets.
      For an alternative for the press bars, you can try stacking several Popsicle sticks on top of one another, then taping them to hold them together (make 2 sets - one for each press bar). Another option is stack several playing cards (around 8 or so depending on how thick you want your rings) and tape around them to hold them together - make 2 bundles like this and use them as a press bar on each side of your clay. Have fun creating! 😊 Jazzy

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi FK -💕 thank you and thank you for watching video. Wow, that is a really good question. I know Air Dry clay glaze does Not work on polymer clay, but I do not know about the other way around. In theory, I think it probably would, as almost anything works on air dry clay without causing a chemical reaction (resin, varnish, mod podge, clear nail polish to name a few). Just to be safe, I would suggest trying it on a scrap piece and let it sit for a few weeks to see if the glaze becomes gooey or sticky. Any reaction typically takes a while. I do not have any Sculpey glaze or polymer glaze, or I would test it out for you. I found a bottle in my stash that's soooo old, I am not sure it would be a good test. I will go check out the Sculpey site and see if I can find any info on this. If I find out more, I'll write again. Jazzy 😊

      Hi Jocelyn, Thank you for watching my video. With the air dry clay I used, the rings will not break if you drop them. Some air dry clay is super fragile and will break. I, personally, coat all of my air dry clay jewelry, with UV/LED resin, so that it becomes even harder and then it is waterproof. Because if Air Dry Clay jewelry gets wet, the clay will become soft again. Jazzy

    Don't they shrink after months? Are the suitable for jewelry and charms? Please clear my biggest confusion 🥺

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Shorna's Shimmer, thank you for watching my video and for your question.💕 This particular clay that I use, once it dries, it stops shrinking. Also, by coating it with the UV resin to make it waterproof, it also prevents any possible further shrinkage if it was coated too soon and wasn't dry enough (it is important to wait until it's fully dry before coating). There are some air dry clays that seem to continue to shrink and shrink over time. For me, I noticed the most long-term shrinkage in pieces that I made with my own 'home-made' air dry clay that I made using Elmer's glue. For example, I made a bunch of charms to practice, set them aside as I didn't think they were good enough to sell, so I kind of forgot about them. Then about a year later, I was going thru stuff and found them - and was like OMG these things got SO TINY! So, yes, some air dry clays do continue to shrink - which is super frustrating. When trying out a new air dry clay for the first time - it's a good idea to make an item and take a photo of it next to a ruler, then wait, wait, wait (kind of forget about it) and go back to a week later, then maybe a month later or more and re-measure it to see if it continuing to shrink. But every clay is different which makes this process really tedious and I have little patience to wait so long.🤪 If air dry clay is coated with a waterproof sealant, like UV resin, then they are suitable for charms and jewelry (I would still recommend removing the jewelry before swimming or showering). I like to put a dab of glue on the hook or loop going into the clay, so as the clay shrinks, it shrinks around the hook. Then I paint it, and glaze it with UV resin - right over where the hook goes into the clay, which secures it even more once the resin is cured. Hope this helps a bit. Jazzy 🌸

      Hii christy, thank you for watching my video.😊 And thank you for your kind words. Regrading the coating part being optional - it depends on what you are making with this clay. For example, the UV coating makes the air dry clay 'waterproof'. While this brand of air dry clay dries fairly hard and durable, if the ring were to get wet, it will soften the clay. So, that is why I seal/coat the rings, to make them waterproof. However, if you were using this clay to make sculptures or figurines, you would Not need to seal or coat the clay. 💕 Thank you for your question. Jazzy

If you want to make the rings waterproof, using this particular clay, you would have to use the 'Water Proof Mod Podge' I think they have 2 types (dishwasher safe Mod Podge and outdoor use Mod Podge). I have not tried either type of waterproof Mod Podge, so while they will make the rings waterproof and give a nice gloss, I do not know if they would make the clay rings stronger. I have used it on other brands of air dry clay and it works great on those also. Always test it on a small piece of dried clay, to make sure there are no reactions, before you glaze your sculptures. It dries really fast - depending on air temp. and how thick you apply it. For me, a thin coat dries in 15 minutes. Multiple coats can be applied. This is my 'go-to' glaze when I don't need creations to be waterproof. Happy Creating! 😊 Jazzy

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Lisa, different clays will react differently to different sealants. For example, oven bake polymer clay reacts with the chemicals in many sealants and makes them turn gooey over time. That is why UV Resin is great on polymer clay, as there is no chemical reaction between the clay and the rsin. I use a UV sealant by the same company that makes the air dry clay that I use. You will have to check with the manufacturer of whatever clay you are using, to find out the proper way to seal it. 🙂 Jazzy

    • @jewelsbyjazzy
      @jewelsbyjazzy  Před 3 lety

      Hi again LISA, so yes, Clear GEL Nail Polish does work on the Air Dry clay. It is very similar to using UV Resin. Just follow the cure times on the bottle and it will make a nice, glossy finish on Air Dry Clay. Some Gel polishes leave a coating/film after curing, that needs to be wiped off with an alcohol pad - so if you can, try using a 'No-wipe' top coat.

Mod Podge does make a 'waterproof' version (I think they have a 'dishwasher' safe Mod Podge and an 'outdoor' use Mod Podge). I haven't tried them yet, so I am not sure if it will make the rings as strong as a resin coating, but I think you can still get a nice glossy, waterproof finish. Hi García Campos Luis Fernando, Thank you so much for watching and you for your kind comment. My husband wrote and recorded those songs and played all the instruments. I use them in all my videos 😊 Jazzy

      Hi Loreyn Mantiquilla- 😊 thank you for watching my video and for your question. I am not sure if it is okay for rings, as I wonder if it may crack easily. I just received a clay similar to what you describe and I am in the process of testing it out. I think the important thing to to coat any air dry clay with a UV resin to make it waterproof and hard. Before you start to sell the rings made with the rubbery clay, perhaps make one for yourself and wear it for a couple of weeks to see how it holds up. Jazzy
