I was 12 when I saw this. We had a hard childhood. Billy Jack was my hero because he helped children. To this day, I have seen this movie about 50 times. That opening scene takes me back to how I felt then. God, the excitement I used to feel seeing Billy.

Nixon in the white house, Vietnam war going strong, Ben, Willard, Trog, and the Return to Planet of the Apes movies amongst many others including Billy Jack. A time never to return again. i literally tear up too. the opening is sooo beautiful with that song. i think this movie - and even opening - represented my hope in the sixties. the best of the hippie movement was represented by this. unfortunately the need for violence against the system - Vietnam War anyone ? - was not part of the hippie movement and - for that matter - physical force is bad for all of us. the real hippie movement was non-violent and that was one of it's particular strengths. i seem to sound confused here - and i am.

It was this movie and this song that taught me to stand between innocence and harm. And it was this movie that taught me that anyone can knock someone down but real strength is shown by picking someone up. I have been a psychologist since 78 and a medical hypnotist since 2000. And I still train everyday at my home gym and I am tough as a box of rocks and fast as Lightning. This scene reminds me of home, I grew up on my grandma's reservation in Southern California and we had an open range which means the cattle and horses roamed free, all over the reservation. As a kid there wasn't much to do, we didn't have a playground or anything to play on, other than going to school, the only time we left the reservation was twice a week, our weekly trips to the grocery store. This song does bring back very happy memories though. Our reservation is in the mountain and the towns people don't really have much to do with us.

This song then and moreso now holds so much meaning. Hate has become a way of life for so many around the world. Even those people and groups how claim to lead us back to the source of all profess hate stronger than before. If any one person even attempted to talk about love that one person would be claimed to be an apostate from every religion and would be ostracized and a bounty placed on their head for heresy and blasphemy. Hate is a disease that grabs hold and won't let go because it becomes a total identity for the person. Giving up the hate means giving up who they are. I had for the longest time figured if I was running for President of the U.S. I'd use this song as my anthem. I doubt I'd last very long. Someone with a high powered rifle would take me out as I walked on stage.

Men who try to end wars are often targeted.
That's probably why they tried to take out Mr T. He wants to end the conflicts overseas.

From the opening flute to that strong woman's voice, "One tin Soldier" rides onto the scene and you know it's gonna be great. Damn! The song is a movie in and of itself. Who wrote this classic tune? It's a folk morality tale gets you thinking about money and the lengths and evil some people will go for it. "Billy Jack," a photolog of the scorching hot desert beauty of Arizona and New Mexico. The ranchers and the native Americans. .The West...Tom Laughlin and Deloris Taylor in the calm meditative almost hypnotic speaking style they share some how bring the redemptive quality of peace and justice and fairness to modern American commercialism and nativism. But let's be honest, it was the violence that brought the success of the film. Violence equals $$? Yeah, but in "Billy Jack's" case the recipie must have that spicy philosophy to make it delicious.

I couldn't have said it any better, and with what you shared is so very true. It's quite sad to see 👀 all the hate, anger and sadness that this world as we know it has people pitting against each other, one wants what the other has, people talking hate towards the other,.
I wish we could go back to the way things were done in a different era, to where we had to talk to each other face to face not on a cellphone, to where a hand shake was just as good as a down payment.
The way I see it, we all need to be a bit more mindful to one another and pray 🙏 for a better tomorrow, a better way.
      Thanks for your time,
      Jo-Anne

@@joanneyoumans4048 That's beautiful, what you said. You just did say it better Jo Ann. Thanks for the compliment. "Covin?" What a name for a band, right? Should have been named "Satan's Children." With a song like "Tin Soldier" no less. But awesome, the story they tell. 3 minutes and it's done. That's the best thing about Rock n Roll: short philosophical messages. And love songs. Love that's gonna happen, already happened, happening now. Love gone wrong, love going right. Love that used be but now it's gone. . There is reconciliation going on between "One Tin Soldier" and ""Billy Jack." Because of the violence. Although fleetingly my favorite line in "Tin Soldier" is "mount your horses, draw your swords!"Go reconcile that. And there's nothing better than mellow "Billy Jack" winding up to put his cowboy boot on somebody's jawbone. And fast as lightning when it happens. And damn if Tom Coughlan in his self-produced karate masterpiece "Billy Jack" goes and a picks a gut- busting, story telling masterpiece of its own for the lead song. "Peace on Earth is all it said." Damn, all that killing for a sign painted on a boulder? A person has to reconcile their past with their present. The world you talk about, the one with people living on their phones. Different. It's "your" past up against "the" past. Your idyllic past reconciled with what it really was. Flash foward to the realty of today .....Reconciliation to reach for the best path foward.

    Listen, children, to a story
    That was written long ago
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
    And the valley-folk below
On the mountain was a treasure
    Buried deep beneath the stone
    And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgment day
    On the bloody morning after
    One tin soldier rides away
So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill
    Asking for the buried treasure
Tons of gold for which they'd kill
It came an answer from the mountain
With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain
    All the riches buried there
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgment day
    On the bloody morning after
    One tin soldier rides away
Now the valley cried with anger
"Mount your horses! Draw your sword!"
    And they killed the mountain-people
So they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure
On the mountain, dark and red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it
"Peace on Earth" was all it said
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgment day
    On the bloody morning after
    One tin soldier rides away
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgment day
    On the bloody morning after
    One tin soldier rides away
