This is an excellent aircraft. It immediately calls to mind a long range standoff jamming aircraft, and a version with two larger weapons bays for standoff weapons. While the p-8 is also a truly excellent aircraft as well, I like this better!

Fly-by-Light. Very nice capable aircraft. Unlike many other large military aircraft, this one was never a commercial model or design refitted for military use. It was designed and built from the ground up by Kawasaki with the designated defense purpose of maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare. There's a lot of cool stuff built into that bird.

It's too bad that this is unlikely to do well compared to the P-8 due to the P-8's common architecture build around a commercial aircraft that makes part sourcing easier.

      @hjpop Před 6 lety +2

Not sure what you're getting at. The P-1 seems to be a good aircraft, if they can get the mainframe issues worked out, but the P-8 will be more successful because it is built on an established airplane body that has a ready supply of replacement parts and spares that can be sourced for cheap. The P-1 does not have that and the costs may be higher. Dunno if the P-1 design used Commercial Off the Shelf items or if things were built from scratch.

      Pincer88, you are right.
P1 is sperior to P8, which the proffesional MPA / PSW pilots from all over the world see this point. More detailes I wrote to Stehen Bond, please refer to that.
Spare parts for P1 has no problem, even P8 specific parts delivery has more problem( 400 sections of P8 were modified). P8 specific simple components need at least 6 Months to be delivered.
Because P8 is a militar aircraft, in the first the American Government's approval for this components is required, in accordance with FMS system. If more complicated components is ordered, it could be one year is required to be delivered.
There is Kawasaki C1 Transport aircraft, which have been in service since 43 years, Kawasaki has taken care of the spare parts for C1 since then, C1 has been replaced gradually with new C2, since one year.

Well done I thought it was very well written, can you elaborate more on the conversations in regards to the comments from RAAF/USN crews. And was the comment about airframe sharing between RAAF/RNZAF was that their own view or something more official?
      --
The airframe sharing idea has been around for a while now, but yes they were expecting if we went that way it would become problematic since the USN and RAAF P8’s fulfil a niche role and application in their larger force structure, as opposed to the more ‘all of government’ and flexible way we would be required to operate our sole MPA/ASW/ISR platform. In a way, you have to be careful what you take from young aircrew talking in front of their airplanes. I made it very clear I was a journalist when speaking to them. The most enlightening conversation came from the plethora of current and ex MPA crews from all over the world who were working in the stands of the expo, who were guarded talking about the particular product they were there to sell, ie: a radar system, or rescue pod, or EO turret or whatever, but were more than willing to wax lyrical concerning general trends and doctrines in the maritime patrol business. All of them had very good things to say about the P1 and Swordfish (or their own system if they worked for an OEM), but there were not many P8 fans on the floor of the expo... In two cases, even the P8 crews themselves talked down the platform. I really tried to talk to Boeing, but they were not very forth coming.
      --
Crews talked down their own platforms?
      Okay...
      --
Yes, in that their platform was inescapably a 737, and the limitations that inherently imposed

Nice looking aircraft! Land-based so don't need STOL capabilities. 4 engines...adding more maintenance costs. P-8 I'm guessing is far better on acquisition and mission capabilities. I'm surprised they decided on four engines. Front kind of looks like a P-3. Obviously wings and tail different.
    Interesting.
Lol I looked at it again and sure enough the nose and fuselage of a Lockheed P-3. It struck me about loitering ability. I'm thinking shutting down one engine on a P-8 is not an option or benefit for extended loitering time. I believe the P-8 is capable of in-flight refueling. This KAWASAKI could obviously shut down two to increase loitering time like the P-3 can.
I'm probably missing some sales points on this. Need to read about it obviously. Love the ground spoiler deployment!

      4 Engines: Japanese Navy’s Spec.
P1 is a military MPA(Marin Patrol Air Craft) /ASW(Anti Submarine Warfare) 4 I I would like to inform more detailes of P1.
      4-Engines: Japanese Navy’s Spec.
P1 is a military MPA(Marin Patrol Air Craft) /ASW(Anti Submarine Warfare) aircraft, he has to complete his missions in various situations and conditions, not like a passenger Airplanes purpose, which fly at high altitude, from A to B economically.
MPA/ASW aircraft needs high survivability and reliability to complete his mission. If, one of four engines is down by bird strike etc., the rest of those 3 Engines are still alive (75% of the power remains), and if the second Engine is unluckily also down (still 50% of power remains), he can still fly safely. P1 have a loitering ability like other 4-Engine planes, P3 & Nimrod. 2 Engine can be shut down during the fight and fly with the rest of 2 Engines for long hours (fuel saving).
P1 can fly even slower than P3 at lower altitude, but he flies faster than P8 at higher altitude.
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P1 Engine (IHI) is consisted of non-rust materials against salt. An individual fuel control computer is fit to the each Engine, in order to achieve the best fuel consumption.
The P1 4 engines maintenance is easier than P3 with 4 Turboprop Engines ( jet engine + gear mission + propeller mechanism).
      -------
      Air Frame:
P1 air frame is made with very strong structure, especially wings, because the air-friction at the low level altitude is much higher than that of high altitude, the air density at low altitude is very high.
P8 received 400 modifications not only the Wing(reinforcement), but also for the whole aircraft, therefore P8 became very expensive.
For example: Japanese stealth supersonic (X)ASM-3 Air to ship missile flies at 5.150km/h(Mach 5), at 1.000m above the sea, but the he flies only at 3.090km/h(Mach 3), at 50m above the sea, because of the enormous air friction at the low level altitude, the air hat so much high density.
Therefore, P1’s main Wings are very wide, where can win enough air lift force at low speed flight, at the low altitude. On the contrary to that of P1, P8 has very narrow wings as a modern passenger aircraft, his wings are able to win less air lift force at slow speed, at low-flight condition than that of P1.
Although P8 can fly at low altitude, his best is at the high altitude flight, accordingly his torpedo needs an adapter, which small holding- wings and GPS, and it leads the torpedo from the high altitude to the targeted point on the sea. US Navy P8 requires also support by UAV Triton MQ-4C. One Triton costs probably 60-70 million US. Dollars.
P1 flies with Fly by Light, his wire harness cable are not copper wires, but it has a light signals cable, so that there are no negative influence by electric magnetic field to those sensitive electrical sensors and equipements. P8 is still carry over from 373 copper wire harness.
P8 Delivery to Australian & Royal Navies has started, they did not order Triton
however, from cost reason and also satellite is also required for that use.
I wonder how the both navies operate P8.

I think that there are many people who think that it looks bad, but why? Because the cockpit window is big!
Not only because this window is shared with the same Kawasaki C - 2 transport aircraft, it also considers securing visibility as a patrol aircraft. I want you to compare with US military P - 8 patrol aircraft!
The size of the airframe of p-1 and the size of the window! In the aircraft, the world's single glass is P-1
